Evaluation of the Significance of Constant Laser Therapy, 532 nm, in Various Exposure Times on the Healing Process of Wounds Infected by Acinetobacter baumannii

Many considerable investigations focused on the stimulation of therapeutic manners of infected injuries in mice. The exaggerated pathogens that induced wounds were gram-positive like staphylococcal and gram-negative, for example, Pseudomonas aeuroginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. Acinetobacter can generate a scale range of an infection that may be received in a hospital or any wellness concern facility. In order to know the significance of laser 532 nm with a constant irradiance at various exposure times on the healing process of wounds infected by Acinetobacter baumannii, this study was performed on the BALB/C mice. An elliptical full-thickness skin injury was made on the backside of 45 adult female (BALB/C) mice. Injuries were affected via Acinetobacter baumannii and were randomly assigned into 3 groups. Semiconductor diode continuous wave laser, λ = 532 nm, with output power 40 mW was used. The power density was 5.71 mW/cm2, while the fluencies were 1.7 J/cm2 and 5.14 J/cm2. Fifteen mice were classified according to the times of irradiation. The first group was infected and presented as control, without irradiation. The second group was infected and irradiated for 5 minutes. The third group, likewise, was infected but irradiated for 15 minutes. All groups were subdivided according to the following period, 3, 5, and 10 days, after irradiation and the animals were killed after the treatment. Wound healing was made by measuring the rate of wound closure and histopathological evaluation. The study determined that 532 nm laser therapy had an obvious and positive influence on the healing of infected wounds with fluence (5.14 J/cm2).

908 mW of green light at 532 nm were generated by intracavity quasiphase matching in a bulk periodically poled MgO:LiNbO3 (PPMgLN) crystal. A maximum optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 33.5% was obtained from a 0.5 mm thick, 10 mm long, and 5 mol% MgO:LiNbO3 crystal with an end-pump power of 2.7 W at 808 nm. The temperature bandwidth between the intracavity and single-pass frequency doubling was found to be different for the PPMgLN. Reliability and stability of the green laser were evaluated. It was found that for continuous operation of 100 hours, the output stability was better than 97.5% and no optical damage was observed.

Sports Motifs in Interwar Polish Art — a ReconnaissanceSport is an important cultural phenomenon permeating many spheres of human activity. It has a great strength of influence and is constantly present in art and literature, also in Poland. Artists, especially the ones being lovers of sport, have always been fascinated with the potential existing in different kinds of games. After regaining independence in 1918, physical activity enjoyed great popularity in the awaken­ing Polish state. Sport was seen as achance of broadly understood renaissance of the nation; in addi­tion, its role in preparing the army to fight in the times of still real threats was appreciated. A positive influence of sport on youth was also seen. It also entered the world of art. The aim of this paper is to present Polish artists inspired by sport, also including laureates of the Art Competitions at the Summer Olympics, like for example poet Kazimierz Wierzyński, painter Władysław Skoczylas or sculptor Józef Klukowski. The author analyses both their motivations and the artistic output. The examination is preceded by an introduction showing the beginnings of Polish art inspired by sport and entertainment, whose elements one will find for example in the case of Leon Wyczółkowski or Wojciech Kossak, as well as the beginnings of sports literature. The history of the presence of sport in Polish art and literature is quite rich. The research enquired exploration of the history of Polish antebellum sport, looking over the works of artists interested in sport, as well as familiarising oneself with numerous publications devoted to this phenomenon.

A variety of surgical techniques for masculinizing chest wall reconstruction has been described. One well-described approach is the double incision subcutaneous mastectomy with free nipple grafts. There is little documentation available that clearly describes the healing process of free nipple grafts for patients and their caregivers. The nipple-areolar complex is harvested as a full-thickness skin graft. It is resized and repositioned to conform to a more masculine aesthetic. A bolster of nonadherent dressing is tied over the graft and left in position for 7 days as adherence, imbibition, and inosculation occur. The superficial layer of epidermis of the graft initially exfoliates as it is replaced by upwardly migrating cells of follicular epithelium. This is observed as a sloughing which can be disturbing to the patient although it is an expected progression of the healing process. Viable pink dermis will be seen underneath. Pigmentation of the nipple graft can take 3-9 months. Free nipple grafts are useful in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast. Additional documentation of the healing process provided here can help reassure the patient and their primary care providers.

AbstractIntroduction: A venous lake (VL) is a vascular lesion with common occurrence in many patients, manifested as a dark blue-to-violet compressible papule, caused by dilation of venules. The main reasons for the treatment of VL are aesthetic. The haemorrhaging episodes or impairment of oral normal functions are also under considerations. Treatment of lip VL includes surgical excision, selective photocoagulation, cryotherapy, sclerotherapy and electrodessication. The high-intensity diode laser is an option. The 980 nm diode laser is selectively absorbed by haemoglobin and selectively destroys blood vessels, minimising injury to the surrounding healthy skin.Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of diode laser in the treatment of VL lesions with the accent on the postoperative defects and aesthetic results.Methods: 35 patients aged 37 to 71 were included in this study. A 980 nm diode laser was used in noncontact mode, under local anaesthesia in continuous wave (2-3W, for 20-60s). All patients received only one procedure.Results: Healing process was completed within 2 to 4 weeks after treatment with no scarring. None of the typical adverse effects were observed in the process of healing.Conclusions: Selective photocoagulation is an effective method for treatment of VL. Lower morbidity, minimal patient discomfort and satisfactory functional and aesthetic results are favourable for patients. To optimise the results and to reduce the adverse effects, basic knowledge on lasers and laser-tissue interactions is requisite.
