This study examines the lived experience of myocardial infarction (MI) in younger men. Seven men, aged between 32 and 58, all of whom had suffered MI within the previous 12 months, were interviewed. Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed four main themes. The themes were “disillusionment with life,” “tension and stress,” “keeping up appearances,” and “invincibility.” Collectively the four themes reflected the complexities, subtleties, and consensus of the experiences of these younger men who have survived MI. This study reveals that the individuals within the authors' sample appear to allude to the ideal or hegemonic form of masculine identity. Utilization of a qualitative approach with this younger male sample has enabled the authors to elicit the defining features of their experience as identified by themselves. Implications for these findings are discussed.

Aim: This small−scale, exploratory, qualitative study was conducted to investigate how the experiences of having a stoma and subsequent stoma reversal affected the lives of the participants.Method: Five participants were interviewed about their experiences. Manual thematic analysis, using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), was employed to interpret the data. Results: Common themes were identified as emerging from the data. Themes before reversal were: acceptance and coping; social impact; and anticipation of returning to normal. Post−reversal themes were: returning to normal; interference with anticipated return to normal; and ongoing social impact. Conclusion: This exploratory study provides a rich account of the experiences of stoma patients who underwent reversal operations. It enhances our understanding of the transition encountered when changing from a person with a stoma into someone without one. This research has found that the anticipated return to normal can be hampered by a mix of physical and psychological processes.

ABSTRACT This study's aim was to identify defensive strategies used by nurses working in the Estratégia Saúde da Família to cope with distress and keep working. This structured descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach was conducted Estratégia Saúde da Família units in a city in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. A total of 16 nurses participated. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data and thematic analysis was adopted. The results show that the work organization, conditions and relations are essential for the emergence and intensity of defensive strategies used in the workers' routine. By using defensive strategies, workers can minimize damage to their health, however, there is a need to expand collective actions focused on occupational' health, especially among managers.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze political and pedagogical projects of nursing residency to the elderly from Paulo Freire’s perspective. Method: a descriptive, exploratory study, qualitative approach using documentary analysis. Data source was pedagogical political projects of nursing residency programs in the health of the elderly. The data were collected between March and May 2017. Data analysis was based on Bardin’s Thematic Analysis. It had as analytical categories specific dimensions of the proposed theoretical framework. Results: twelve pedagogical political projects showed that learning dimensions appear in an incipient, fragmented way, demonstrating the reproduction of banking education, disregarding the importance of bringing the student as a subject of learning. Conclusion: there is a gap in pedagogical political projects from Paulo Freire’s perspective. It is necessary that regulatory institutions can systematize and encourage so that pedagogical projects of these programs are based on Paulo Freire’s epistemological bases, enabling the so desired holistic training.

Research which is led by mentally diverse persons offers a variety of benefits.  Crucially, this research holds potential to target wide-ranging social inclusion issues.  Recognizing that these studies cannot lay claim to be commonplace, the aim of this investigation is to inform and improve policy supportive of lived experience-led studies by critically investigating evidence-based factors influencing a greater presence of this genuinely inclusive style of research.  Following purposive sampling, thematic analysis was applied to twelve articles meeting with inclusion criteria and retrieved from Scopus, Medline, PsycINFO and ProQuest databases.  This investigation reveals three key findings.  First, this exploratory study identifies factors supporting and resisting lived experience-led research across micro, meso and macro levels.  Second, investment in future research is needed to identify evidence-based measures with capacity to redress factors constraining opportunities for mentally diverse persons to develop research careers and to potentially lead the way in reforming mental health and other services.  Finally, any assertions of neurodiverse researchers as necessarily being lacking in professional qualifications or reliant upon the assistance of neurotypical colleagues should be critically questioned.

While collective identifications of diasporic Kurds have attracted considerable scholarly interest, their possible role in familial processes of post-trauma reconstruction has hardly been studied. The aim of this article is therefore to develop an explorative understanding of the deployment and meaning of collective identifications in intimate family contexts by examining the interconnectedness between the transmission of cultural and political belonging and post-trauma meaning-making and coping in Kurdish refugee families. After contextualising diasporic Kurds’ collective identifications through an ethnographic depiction of the Kurdish diasporic community in Belgium, this article reports on findings from a small-scale, exploratory study with five Kurdish refugee families in Belgium. Thematic analysis of family and parent interviews indicates how cultural and political identifications may operate as sources of (1) dealing with cultural bereavement and loss; (2) commemorating trauma; and (3) reversing versus reiterating trauma. Overall, this study’s findings support an explorative understanding of collective identifications as meaningful resources in families’ post-trauma reconstruction.ABSTRACT IN KURMANJIRola nasnameyên komelî di pêvajoyên malbatî yên vesazkirina paş-trawmayê de: Xebateke raveker li ser malbatên kurd ên penaber û civakên wan ên dîasporayêTevî ku nasnameyên komelî yên kurdên dîasporayê ta radeyeke baș bûye mijara lêkolînan, rola wan a muhtemel di pêvajoyên malbatî yên vesazkirina (selihandin) paş-trawmayê qet nehatine vekolîn. Journalism job advertisements send important signals about valued skills and attributes. How such advertisements articulate journalistic expertise, including interactional expertise, has been studied, but signals about verbal communication usually have been overlooked. Little is known about how journalism employers define the most valued communication skills and the ideal journalistic voice. This signaling theory study explores expectations advertisements convey for how journalists should sound through a thematic analysis of U.S. journalism job listings (n = 510) specifying substantial verbal communication. Requirements for exceptional verbal skills and explicit calls for vocal clarity raise barriers to entry for journalists with speech disabilities or speech anxiety.
