We are in the age of information and communication technology (ICT), where the learning communities (i.e., learners, teachers, scholars, etc.), mainly in higher education domains, are more technology dependent. The stakeholders always handle advanced research, study and technologies, and therefore they need some authentic and updated information to satisfy their daily needs. They simply need some updating as well as real-time interactive digital learning platforms that can provide fast, authentic and updated information to satisfy their academic needs. This learning platform completely depends on the judicious designing methodologies, and this designing methodology totally depends on the reliable and effective digital learning tools or learning management system (LMS). The present study is an attempt to design the standard process towards selecting an authentic, reliable and effective open source learning management software/system (OSLMS) for the higher education platform. In this regard, the study has been designed in three layers for the selection of the popular and most downloaded OSLMS in the world. Later in the third layer, a comparative study of the final six OSLMSs has been conducted based on the features under various criteria and parameters to select the right one. Lastly, it is found that the Moodle fulfilled most of the criteria and is selected as the most authentic, interactive and trustworthy OSLMS for the higher education system.

Students’ engagement in a traditional classroom setting has been occurring for so long with several traditional tools such as textbooks, lectures, video, and group activities. Nowadays, globally and locally connected classes are the target of advanced education intellects. The Learning Management System (LMS) has become a basic tool for all institutions of advanced education, and the main thrust in web-based learning. The significance of the learning management system is defined by its role in building up instructive and educational development, so it is considered the most significant new tool for e-learning. As per a report by the Educause Research Center of U.S higher education institutions, almost 100% of advanced training institutions have an LMS setup, the LMS is utilized by 85% of faculty members, 56% of faculty use it daily, 83% of undergraduate and postgraduate students use the LMS and 56% say they use it in most or all courses. Learning Management System (LMS) is now not only becoming a critical tool for most higher education institutions but is also being seen as a driving force in online learning. Blackboard Learning Management System is a technologically improved learning platform within the context of the e-learning and aimed to investigate the use of Blackboard for training, learning, and examination purposes. In turn, this study is designed to explore the efficient utilization and evaluation of the students’ academic performance and the use of a Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard, among academics at Jazan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The primary aim of this research is to investigate how the faculty employs the features and communication tools in an online learning management system to facilitate the students in learning practice and to engage them in the material at hand. Through the findings obtained, both the faculty and the administrators are expectedly able to develop the online learning environment more effectively. It is also expected that the findings of this study can be a significant stimulus for other higher learning institutions in the Kingdom and the rest of the world to use the Blackboard for improved academic performance.

Higher education needs to respond to ever changing demands and expectations of present and future potential students. In order to amplify access to educational materials for students who endeavor to learn, various methodologies are used with the help of technology. Education is redefined and democratized by enabling anyone to learn from the world’s experts by a click of a mouse. Higher education institutions are venturing to gain better understanding of the phenomenon of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and its paradigm shift towards open global education. This study endeavors to study how MOOCs can be seamlessly integrated into the present scenario of traditional and learning environment. The commercialization with marketing of MOOCs in KSA’s higher education sector is also discussed. Finally, this study recommends adaptive home grown organic introduction of blended learning with the MOOC platform. With the advent of internet technology, students are now able to access diversified and latest courses which are participatory, collaborative with digital skills, well distributed, engaging and self-paced. This concept enables them to attain lifelong learning and brings scalability at a virtual zero cost to the students. The overall impact of technology on the learning management system will be explored. An attempt is made to introduce and accelerate learning and teaching strategies and tools to enhance student employability with their present usage of technology. The objective of the study is to comprehend the readiness level of learners by incorporating open learning platform, build an innovation model, which involves stakeholders with a holistic perspective that will enable a congenial learning management system, how the deanship of information technology and distance learning change course from a support-based deanship to a strategic-based deanship.

Internet technologies are recently being more utilised in the field of higher education in distance digital learning systems. Digital learning management systems (DLMSs) are an important and necessary educational tool for learning activities. The universities are using the digital LMS (DLMS) tools that are unique to their environment. Different universities have different DLMS tools that are software driven and allow the users (management, instructors, and students) to use them for regular tasks. This research discusses the qualitative data collected using the case study methodology. In this research, case study design was selected for the qualitative methodology, and semi-structured interviews were employed as the data collection method. The case study is based in a deanship of a university implementing a digital learning management system in Jordan. The research provides an analysis of the interviews to gain insights into students' perspectives regarding the factors influencing the implementation of the digital learning management system in the higher education sector.

The integration of e-learning platforms in the higher education system has been around for a long time and is seen in line with the changes in Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). Realizing this, Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI), Malaysia has developed a Learning Management System (LMS) platform based on Technology Acceptance Model for its members to streamline learning and facilitating processes, namely MYGURU. The purpose of this study was to determine the applicability and attitude of the lecturers towards the used of MYGURU during the teaching, learning and facilitating process. Using a survey method, the study involved 734 and 248 lecturers who were selected using simple random sampling. The questionnaire was distributed by email in 2 months period. The results of this study found the mean score for MYGURU perceived usefulness and mean scores of lecturers' attitude to be at moderate level. The study of attitudes toward MYGURU used was modest, whereas the correlation test showed that there was a significant positive and moderate relationship between perceived usefulness and lecturers’ attitude. This study implies that developing a Learning Management System such as MYGURU requires continuous improvement in order to provide a better quality of higher education.
