Introduction Several concepts have been used to describe the qualities of communities of nursing colleagues. Nonetheless, few studies have shed light on nursing communities by drawing on the concept of solidarity. Objective To explore solidarity among a community of nursing colleagues. Methods A qualitative research design with a reflective life world approach was selected. This study reused data from a larger Norwegian empirical study. The data from the original study consisted of qualitative interviews and follow-up interviews with 13 nurses (RNs). The research context was municipality and specialist health services. A secondary data analysis was conducted. The study was based on the SRQR reporting guidelines. Results The results were formulated under two themes: 1) having indispensable relationships and 2) encountering a relative absence of sympathy. Conclusion A sense of community among nursing colleagues seems to rely on solidarity: whatever affects one nurse affects another. The solidarity that arose from the content of commonalities involved maintaining indispensable relationships with nursing colleagues by supporting and aiding them and simultaneously enduring a relative absence of sympathy. Solidarity among the community in this study was not a peripheral concept of the general notion of solidarity, implying that the commonalities within the collegial relationships were ambiguous and could shift from something good to something relatively good and vice versa. Such a shift was evidenced by nurses’ experiences of their community.

The ASEAN region's potential ability to reap the benefits of e-commerce is considerable, and it is timely to strategize a sustainable pathway for ASEAN's e-commerce market. This chapter explores the arising legal and regulatory challenges with measures needed to facilitate e-commerce activities in the region. A qualitative research design is utilized to review secondary data and analyze ASEAN's current legal and regulatory framework. The findings reveal that despite the untapped potential of the collectively large “ASEAN market,” there are significant challenges to developing e-commerce in some countries. Moreover, there are additional regulatory challenges in tackling a myriad of issues related to cross-border challenges in terms of security and reliability of payments: logistics, customs and border administration, foreign market access, data protection, and the regulatory environment for national and cross-border e-commerce transactions. Some form of legal and regulatory harmonization is required between member nations in order to mutually reap the benefits of e-commerce.

The study aimed to explore the experiences of participation among the next of kin of patients who had surgery for upper abdominal tumours. This study had a qualitative research design and data were analysed by thematic analysis. Eleven qualitative interviews were conducted with next of kin to patients who had surgery for liver, bile duct or pancreatic malignancy. The following themes emerged: from the shadows to an important role and an inviting and inhibiting environment for participation. Next of kin were a central part of their loved one’s care but often in the shadows. The next of kin described how they were not always invited and often they had to struggle to get involved. Next of kin often have a major psychosocial role to supporting the patient during and after discharge, and therefore need to be invited and involved in the whole care process.

Qualitative research design can be complicated depending upon the level of experience a researcher may have with a particular type of methodology. As researchers, many aspire to grow and expand their knowledge and experiences with qualitative design in order to better utilize diversified research paradigms for future investigations. One of the more popular areas of interest in qualitative research design is that of the interview protocol. Interviews provide in-depth information pertaining to participants' experiences and viewpoints of a particular topic. Often times, interviews are coupled with other forms of data collection in order to provide the researcher with a well-rounded collection of information for analyses. This paper explores the effective ways to conduct in-depth, qualitative interviews for novice investigators by employing a step-by-step process for implementation.

Purpose: This qualitative research shed light on the syntactic errors frequently made by Grade 11 students in speaking. This research also explored and understood the probable linguistic reasons for these occurrences. The results of this study were intended for English teachers to obtain a deeper understanding of the existence and significance of errors in language learning. Methodology: This study is a qualitative research design using the Error Analysis approach. Twelve participants from three different private schools in the Davao Region were purposefully chosen. The following data collection techniques, namely observation, interview, and documentation were utilized. Error Analysis was carried out in four successive stages; a collection of a sample of learner language, identification of errors, description of errors, and explanation of errors. Findings: Results showed that among the syntactic errors committed by the participants in classroom discourse were omission, addition, selection, and ordering. Results further revealed that the causes of syntactic errors were intralingual, as the common cause of errors, and interlingual. Furthermore, the FGD results showed that there were other reasons for committing errors like fear to commit errors and lack of confidence, which impede the students in their speaking performance. Significance: As gleaned from the results of this qualitative study, English teachers are encouraged to focus on correcting high frequency and general errors rather than correcting every syntactic error committed by the students. Secondly, English teachers might consider pedagogical reforms in teaching speaking. Lastly, English teachers must mitigate anxiety while improving students’ oral proficiency.

There is a dearth of qualitative research exploring how freelancers working in the cultural industries have been affected during COVID-19. In particular, there is a lack of research exploring how socioeconomic and psychosocial adversities may have changed or evolved, and how these changes have been experienced. This study builds on qualitative interviews carried out in July-November 2020 (n=20) by exploring findings from follow-up interviews conducted in May-July 2021 (n=16). It presents a diversity of experiences, showing how some freelancers experienced small changes (e.g., to the kind of work carried out), with others experiencing major changes (e.g., leaving the sector completely). The study also explores experiences of ongoing or increased mental health impact, as well as changing attitudes to cultural work. It concludes with a call for highly bespoke support in the future that can address the huge disparity of experiences during this time.
