Background: Socioeconomic factors are known to affect health quality, disease occurrence as well as health-seeking behaviors in several ways. Objectives: To determine the influence of socio-economic factors on awareness of cancer, healthseeking behaviors among parents of children with cancer in a developing country and occurrence of cancer using Burkitt lymphoma as index malignancy. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study that involved children with cancer seen over a 2-year period in a tertiary hospital in Nigeria. Information was obtained by interview through administration of a questionnaire and retrieval of clinical data from patients’ case notes. Results: The caregivers of 91 children (46 boys, 45 girls) were interviewed including 86 biological parents. Majority (84.6%) of the children belonged to the low socio -economic classes 3-5; 45 of 86 parents (52.3%), more likely in parents from higher socioeconomic classes, were aware of cancer but only 7 (8.1%) knew it could occur in children. There was no association between Burkitt lymphoma and socio-economic class. Twenty-eight (30.8%) parents of the 91 children visited alternate sources of health care, most commonly traditional healers, followed by religious centers. There was no association between visits to such centers and the parents’ socio-economic status or with presentation with metastatic disease. Conclusions: Awareness of childhood cancer is low among this cohort of parents; their socioeconomic status seems to impact on this level of awareness but not on their health-seeking behaviors for their affected children. Focused health education is needed to increase childhood cancer awareness and appropriate healthseeking behavior among the population studied.Key words: socio-economic; childhood; cancer; health-seeking; behaviour; awareness

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in English; abstract also in Chinese.Female of all age groups and socio-economic status do face a number of constraints in pursuing physical recreation activity. The present paper aimed to study the constraints of female's physical recreation participation, and the relationship of perceived constraints and the level of participation between different occupation status, education level, and marital status. Two hundred and eight females aged 18 to 60 were invited to fill in the Physical Recreation Participation Questionnaire (PRPQ) to identify their perceived constraints and level of physical recreation participation. Results indicated that there were certain constraints factors, such as psychological constraints, accessibility constraints and time constraints, more related to the constriction in female physical recreation participation. When analyzing the constraint dimensions with different status towards participation frequency, the result was not necessary negatively related. Only housewives and middle education level women with lower perceived constraints demonstrated higher physical recreation participation than their counterparts.

Indigenous tribes are said to be the living treasures of a country. The study aimed to determine the relationship of the Aetas with other residents in the community. Qualitative method of research using Photovoice, interviews and observation through FGD among 729 families were used. The following are the themes: 1) The Longing for the Sense of Belongingness as Part of a Community – “Am I welcome to this place?”; 2) Noblest Task as a Member of the Community; 3) Leverage on Sound Interpersonal Relationship; 4) Willingness to Success and Avoidance of Discriminations – “Am I belong?”; and 5) New Hopes, New Aspirations, New Life … “Unwavering Support from Stakeholders”. The following were the findings:  they felt that discrimination exists; there’s willingness to help and support the community; there are conflicts between their co-Aetas but settled righteously; and there are groups of NGOs, Government Agencies, or Private Companies extending help, and aids in the community. It is concluded that discrimination exists in the community and occurrences of conflicts among them and with neighbors who are “unat”; and overflowing supports extended to them from different organizations extending help and aids. It is recommended that the ROEL Integrative Scheme for Sustainability Development must be implemented.
