AbstractCorporate social responsibility has been an important theme in management at least since the 1960s. International business became a recognized subfield in management around the same time. Logically, there might have been much dialogue about corporate social responsibility in international business research and publication, yet previous reviews of the literature indicate relatively little such research. This study complements previous literature reviews by employing text data mining to analyze a sample of 1188 articles published from 2000 to 2018 in the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). Results show that from 2000 to 2018 only 35 CSR focused articles appeared. CSR research has increased over time, highly influenced by editorial specification of special issues. These documents can be grouped into seven CSR topics, with corruption and embeddedness being the most salient. Strategies are suggested for increasing research on CSR in international business.

In this study we develop a simplified technique for helping researchers and analysts visualize the alternative prominence of term eigenvectors obtained after exploring term associations (Term Clusters) while conducting Text Data Mining on a collection to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reports. The collection analyzed is comprised of CSR reports produced by 7 US firms (Citi, Coca-Cola, Exxon-Mobil, General Motors, Intel, McDonald’s and Microsoft) in 2004, 2008 and 2012. The analysis is performed by year in order to discern how the prominence of term eigenvectors has evolved for each firm and for different CSR topics. Results indicate that term eigenvectors maintain their prominence when CSR topics are related to the core business of the firm in question.

<p>This bibliometric research note analyses the impact of the Journal of East European Management Studies (JEEMS) since its SSCI indexation. We analyse 91 papers in English, showing that most papers are country and/or case specific, with a large majority of papers associated with the international business discipline. The strongest contributions have been made to the general international business literature and the literature on corporate social responsibility, as well as culture studies. We identify several gaps and outline future research directions. </p>

There is a conspicuous lack of research on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices undertaken in the United Arab Emirates, more so in the banking sector. This paper attempts to fill the gap by examining the government policies drawn up to support enterprises in their CSR efforts. The paper aims to examine the nature and practices of CSR undertaken by the banking sectors in the UAE. UAE's desire to go beyond being a tourist destination to an international business hub and financial market has resulted in their desire to set up CSR activities. In the UAE the banking sectors are the first to have adopted social responsibility and worked to advance it. Banks like Mashreq, ADCB, and Emirates NBD have actively involved themselves in CSR projects. For this study, ten UAE banks (Islamic and Non-Islamic banks) have been chosen based on purposive sampling to ensure the selected banks are currently or in the recent past involved themselves in CSR projects.

Over the decades, social movements have been central to the emergence and spread of a worldwide corporate social responsibility (CSR) movement. While CSR was once a marginal concern, social movements were effective in bringing CSR issues to the forefront of international business concern, resulting in the institutionalization of many social and environmental principles. This chapter examines five dimensions of the social movements–CSR relationship. First, it outlines the wider sociological and global context in which social movements have risen in response to the growing power of businesses. Second, it highlights notable CSR issue areas in which social movements have been particularly effective. Third, it discusses the various insider and outsider strategies that social movements have employed to impact the CSR movement. Fourth, it enumerates the challenges that social movements face in CSR. Lastly, the chapter discusses some promising areas of future research for scholars interested in the social movements–CSR relationship.
