Stuart Walker is Professor of Design for Sustainability and Co-Director of the Imagination Lancaster design research Centre at Lancaster University. Focused on design for sustainability; product aesthetics and meaning; practice-based design research and product design that explores and expresses both human values and notions of spirituality. He was interviewed in his second visit to Brazil to attend the Conference and Workshop "Design and the national policy of solid waste: dialogues on sustainability," held in the Sustainability Laboratory (Lassu) at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2013, an activity of the research project sponsored by CNPq: Product design, sustainability and national policy on solid waste, coordinated by Professor Maria Cecilia Loschiavo dos Santos. Through the suggested questions, Professor Stuart Walker built a severe critique of our social system of mass production and reminded us that values really matter to our journey.

Electronic information products based on ergonomics, on the basis of the research in the form in human research and design. From the electronic information products shape colour, modelling, material texture and interface aspects are studied, that "People-Oriented" design idea was fully manifested in person to use electronic devices, functional principle in operating mode, physiological, psychological, product semantics of human concern gives products, electronic equipment, more comfortable and pleasant that the external form of electronic information equipment development direction.

Composite product design is becoming a consumption ideology. It is formed with the changes of the modernity of the consumers, is developed according to the modern values and is the inevitable consequence of social development. The article clarifies the design concept of Composite Running Washing Machine from three aspects. First of all, we decide the product orientation and appearance shape design according to consumers, consumer demand and mechanical combination principle. Secondly, we grasp the influence of material quality on the whole visual effect according to what mental feelings on us of the character of the material and visual effects. Eventually, we explains the design concept of humanism from the perfect combination of functions and details. Thus the design shows great respect and care for human beings.

Purpose There are many frameworks and methods for involving children in design research. Human-Computer Interaction provides rich methods for involving children when designing technologies. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach This paper examines various approaches to involving children in design, considering whether users view children as study objects or active participants. Findings The BRIDGE method is a sociocultural approach to product design that views children as active participants, enabling them to contribute to the design process as competent and resourceful partners. An example is provided, in which BRIDGE was successfully applied to developing upper limb prostheses with children. Originality/value Approaching design in this way can provide children with opportunities to develop social, academic and design skills and to develop autonomy.

This chapter provides a brief overview of systems theory and suggests that product designers could use systems theory and systems dynamics models to improve our understanding of complex Product Design research problems, to anticipate how and where changes in these dynamically evolving systems might occur and how they might interact with the current system to produce a new system with new behaviors, and to identify leverage points within the system where potential policy or design process changes might be introduced to produce effective solutions to these problems with minimum policy resistance. By investigating the current and future trends of the application of systems theory in Product Design research, this chapter invites multidisciplinary discussions of these topics.
