Green and sustainable material is the utmost prerequisite for the advancement of a healthy society and fulfilling the necessary for the improvement in material science. Naturally obtaining wood flour has the competence to be reinforced as a filler substance in the polymer composite. The present article deals with the usage of wood flour as a filler in the polymer composite. The article comprises properties, characteristics, occurrence, the structure of wood, and the techniques implemented in the manufacturing of wood flour polymer composites. In addition, critical parameters and causes that can bring changes in the properties like tensile, flexural, impact and hardness of polymers are also discussed with the addition of wood flour alone and with nanoparticles. The advantages of using wood flour as a filler in the thermoset and thermoplastic polymers discussed, and its hybridization with various natural fibers was also discussed in the present study.

The article describes preferable ways of usage of alternative binders for high-rise construction based on aluminate cements. Possible areas of rational use of aluminate cements with the purpose of increasing the service life of materials and the adequacy of the durability of materials with the required durability of the building are analyzed. The results of the structure, shrinkage and physical and mechanical properties of concrete obtained from dry mixes on the base of aluminate cements for self-leveling floors are presented. To study the shrinkage mechanism of curing binders and to evaluate the role of evaporation of water in the development of shrinkage was undertaken experiment with simple unfilled systems: gypsum binder, portland cement and «corrosion resistant high alumina cement + gypsum». Principle possibility of binder with compensated shrinkage based on aluminate cement, gypsum and modern superplasticizers was defined, as well as cracking resistance and corrosion resistance provide durability of the composition.

Hybrid composites based on high-density polyethylene-grafted maleic anhydride /ultra-high density HYPERLINK "https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/materials-science/polypropylene" \o "Learn more about Polypropylene" polyethylene (HDPE/UHMWPE) loaded with short glass fiber (SGF) and zirconia (ZrO2) micron sized particles were fabricated by melt-mixing process and their physical and mechanical properties were determined. Physio-mechanical properties such as density, hardness, flexural properties and impact strength of these composites were studied. The presence of SGF and ZrO2 in the grafted HDPE/UHMWPE blend increased the hardness, bending strength and modulus. However, impact strength decreased with increase in ZrO2 loading. Further, it was found that the HDPE/UHMWPE blend with 25 wt. % SGF and 2.5 wt. %ZrO2 showed optimum mechanical properties due to improved fiber/matrix adhesion. Scanning electron microscope was used to identify the fractographic features of the selected fractured coupons.

At present, there is a trend towards increasing demand for ceramic products with enhanced physical and mechanical properties. This study is aimed at developing scientifically grounded compositions of ceramic products that maximize the use of local low-quality aluminosilicate raw materials and secondary raw materials in brick-making technology. Characteristics of local low-melting clays and industrial waste in the form of drilling slurry with minimum percentage of petroleum product were studied and presented in this paper. Standard methods for determining physical and mechanical properties of bricks, physicochemical and statistical methods of research are used as a methodological framework. The paper shows effects of drilling slurry with an increased content of calcium oxide on the composition, physical and mechanical properties of wall ceramics, as well as effects of composition of low-quality local clays and slurries on the structure and properties of ceramic materials. The modifying role of container glass and its effects on properties of a synthesized ceramic piece were studied and presented.

The paper aims to investigate the influence of the characteristics of the strands on the properties of oriented strand boards (OSB). To solve this objective, some global synthetic characteristics of the strands (the slenderness ratio, the characteristics of thinness, and the specific surface) of four wood species currently used in this technology (spruce and pine for softwood, and poplar and willow for hardwood) were first studied. The characteristics of the OSB obtained from each species separately were also determined, and finally the correlations analysis was made between the characteristics of the strands and those of the corresponding OSB boards. The working methodology used the European tests regarding the physical and mechanical properties of the boards, but also algorithms for forecasting and evaluating the quality of the strands and boards. The conclusions regarding the characteristics of the strands have highlighted the role of the specific surface of the strand and the characteristics of the thickness; respectively, the conclusions regarding the characteristics of the boards showed that the fast-growing species of willow and poplar lead to obtaining higher quality OSB boards. The general conclusion of the paper is that the characteristics of the strands have a significant influence on the physical–mechanical properties of the OSB board.
