The aim of this study was to investigate the causes and the solutions of Saudi EFL university instructors’ barriers to teaching the speaking skill. The sample of the study consisted of 132 randomly-selected EFL preparatory year instructors at Al-Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, and King Saud University in Riyadh city. Three instruments were utilized to collect data for the study: the first one was a questionnaire, the second was semi-structured interviews, and the third one was lectures observations. The researcher designed a five-point Likert scale questionnaire to collect the data of the study which was validated by a panel of raters consisting of ten university professors and instructors. To ensure reliability, Cronbach Alpha formula was calculated. Besides, The findings of the study revealed that the causes of Saudi EFL university instructors’ barriers to teaching the speaking skill in the preparatory year were as follows: students’ use of L1 during group work or pair work, lack of vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, lack of self-confidence, and lack of motivation. In addition, the study aimed to measure the students’ attitudes towards the internet and to identify to what extent the internet was employed in their reading classes. Moreover, the study aimed to explore the challenges that they encountered while using the internet in their learning of reading. In order to achieve these goals, the researcher used the descriptive analytical approach and used the questionnaire as the main data collection tool. The study sample comprised 50 Saudi EFL male students in the preparatory year at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. The findings of the study showed that students perceived that the internet is important in the process of reading comprehension learning and teaching with positive attitudes towards the internet. Results showed that the top challenges of using of the internet for reading learning/teaching are lack of students’ knowledge to know what to read on the internet, the short time of the class, and the students’ lack of the skills and knowledge to use the internet for academic purposes. Furthermore, the results showed that the students mostly used the internet for playing games, social networking, and learning vocabulary. The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model in teaching mathematics in English language for the preparatory year in improving the level of mathematical achievement. To achieve the aims of the research, the mixed design of the concurrent type was used, in which quantitative and qualitative data were collected simultaneously. The study was applied to a sample of (167) students in the preparatory year of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University for the first applied track. They were divided into two experimental groups that were taught Mathematics using the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model and two control groups that were taught Mathematics using the usual standard method. The groups were subjected to an achievement test, and a sample was chosen according to the level of the achievement test for individual interviews. The results of the research showed that there is a statistically significant difference at the level of (α ≤ 0.05) between the average score of the female students in the control groups who were taught according to the traditional method, and those in the experimental groups who were taught according to the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model in the achievement test, in favor of the experimental group. Additionally, the use of the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model also had a high impact on the size of the achievement test by more than 0.14 as measured by squared Eta effect size. The use of the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model was characterized by high effectiveness in developing mathematical achievement for students of the preparatory year in the experimental groups. The research also recommended the importance of training teachers on how to prepare and apply the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model, paying attention to activities that combine content and language
