Understanding the factors driving the implementation of energy efficiency measures in compressed air systems is crucial to improve industrial energy efficiency, given their low implementation rate. Starting from a thorough review of the literature, it is thus clear the need to support companies in the decision-making process by offering an innovative framework encompassing the most relevant factors to be considered when adopting energy efficiency measures in compressed air systems, inclusive of the impacts on the production resources and the operations of a company. The framework, designed following the perspective of the industrial decision-makers, has been validated, both theoretically and empirically, and preliminarily applied to a heterogeneous cluster of manufacturing industries. Results show that, beside operational, energetic, and economic factors, in particular contextual factors such as complexity, compatibility, and observability may highlight critical features of energy efficiency measures whose absence may change the outcome of a decision-making process. Further, greater awareness and knowledge over the important factors given by the implementation of the framework could play an important role in fostering the implementation of energy efficiency measures in compressed air systems. The paper concludes with further research avenues to further promote energy efficiency and sustainability oriented practices in the industrial sector.

This paper introduced the development and research advance of the submersible pushing-flow agitator for sewage treatment at home and abroad. By analyzing four factors affecting the energy efficiency of the submersible pushing-flow agitator, the energy efficiency evaluation method and calculation formula of the submersible pushing-flow agitator for sewage treatment in China are analyzed and discussed in this paper.

The authors present a comparative study on effectiveness of energy policies for the building sector that are presently implemented in selected countries in Europe versus selected states in the U.S. Socio-economic factors affecting energy consumption on both sides of the Atlantic are identified from a human behavior perspective. Various identified factors known to affect energy efficiency and consumption have been positioned in diagrams based on four primary directions: lifestyle, economy, environment, and technology. In a second step various programs and incentives are positioned in the same diagram to demonstrate how well these strategies address the factors identified before. This is done for selected countries and continents in sub-diagrams to allow a comparison of effectiveness and provide a tool for predicting the effectiveness of a possible policy or program transfer to other nations. The research conducted so far suggests that energy efficiency policies and measures implemented in the United States do not always target the factors that have been identified to most significantly influence energy consumption. The results indicate that there might be a significant gap between parameters that are guiding factors affecting energy consumption, and parameters targeting a proper implementation of energy efficient policies. The authors strive to provide a tool that will help policy makers and other decision makers to evaluate and compare their incentives and programs against those from other countries and benefit from lessons learned by mapping various policies towards specific efficiency parameters.

Russia’s energy sector is the basis for the national economic development. At present, the importance of the eastern direction in the energy policy of Russia is growing. A computer simulation of energy development processes in the eastern regions of Russia (Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts (SFD, FEFD)) is of great theoretical and practical value as an effective method for studying complex systems. The study is concerned with the energy sector of the eastern regions of Russia, energy saving and energy efficiency. The aim of the research is to identify the most significant factors affecting the energy efficiency of the economy of the eastern regions of Russia and quantify their impact by an energy-economic analysis. The study uses the methods of economic-mathematical modelling, systems-, and statistical analysis, balance and indicative methods. The most significant factors affecting the energy efficiency of the economy in the eastern regions of Russia are reduction in specific fuel consumption; reduction of energy losses; rational consumption of fuel and energy resources. Measures to improve the fuel and energy balance of the eastern regions of Russia will improve the energy efficiency of the economy, which will improve the quality of life of the population.

The purpose of this chapter is to compare the design and operational parameters of energy efficiency (power generation, capacity utilization factor) of a wind power plant (WPP) in order to improve the accuracy of the design parameters estimation at the preliminary design stage. Recommendations have been given for accounting different factors influencing on energy efficiency and economic indicators of a WPP. In this chapter, the research is carried out on the example of existing wind-diesel complexes (WDC) in the settlement of Ust-Kamchatsk (Kamchatka Krai), Novikovo (Sakhalin Oblast), and projected WDC on Popova Island (Vladivostok city district).

This review incudes a detailed analysis of energy efficiency indicators applicable to the electric power sector in general. Major factors affecting energy efficiency in general and in the residential sector in particular have been found. Certain innovative monitoring and control solutions for residential electric power consumers have been considered for the purpose of creating energy efficient power consumption. Also, under the applications of a step rate system and other specific conditions, such as a limited capacity level, a technical solution providing reliability and efficiency of power consumption has been described.
