Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) consists of the orchestration of single intelligent and connected cyber-physical systems (CPS) in order to perform what we call smart manufacturing. CPS collaborate in an intelligent way in order to obtain and maintain the optimum of the manufacturing process, handle disturbances and adapt to changing conditions. It might not be easy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to implement such production system architectures in their shop floor. In this paper, we want to investigate existing scientific literature through a systematic literature review in order to identify the main research fields for implementing CPPS in smart SME factories. As a result, the identified research fields are critically discussed, highlighting those fields that can be identified as the most difficult challenges for SMEs in the near future and giving directions for future research activities.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the links between climate finance and tourism adaptation development. Besides increasing adaptation and mitigation efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions, climate change remains a major challenge in the twenty-first century and beyond especially for tourism which is highly climate sensitive. Hence, it is necessary for tourism to adapt to survive. The aim of the study is to provide a systematic overview of the topic to offer a foundation for better understanding different ways of integrating climate finance initiatives with tourism. Design/methodology/approach The research focused on the top-ranked, peer reviewed journals of each of the two selected research fields. To address this topic, an in-depth systematic literature review in the fields of climate change finance and tourism adaptation development was conducted. Furthermore, because it is a relatively new research topic, conference proceedings were also explored. To guarantee wide coverage of the literature, a query of the following scholarly databases was considered: Elsevier, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. Findings Based on the analyses of the literature available on the topic, the paper highlights the main research trends and conclusions. It is argued that there is imbalance of knowledge on climate change finance as it relates to tourism. To date, there have been relatively few published articles on this topic in the context of tourism. Based on the findings, promising areas for future research were identified, and in particular for small island communities and recommendations for future research are outlined. Research limitations/implications The paper is limited by the scope of the literature review accessed by the researcher. The results of this review may vary according to the databases used. Originality/value Currently, there is no extensive review of articles on climate finance and tourism adaptation. This paper aims at reviewing climate finance studies published in English language to explore knowledge gaps in tourism adaptation. Sets of themes being advanced are also highlighted. Recommendations for future research are provided.

The objective of this study is to examine the prevailing literature on Business Excellence (BE), leadership and Lean. Leadership is enabling criteria of Business Excellence Models (BEMs) and Lean is one of the keys improvement initiative which can be adopted and the path forward in achieving BE. The analysis involved studying 506 research articles published between 2009 and Aug 2020 in well-known academic databases. This systematic literature review intends to organize, synthesize and structure the shared fount of knowledge concerning to BE, leadership and Lean. The classification and analysis of these articles are according to the following axes: years of publication, types of journals and research context. Each trend of the three axes is granted in the analysis. The main research fields are suggested to guide future research agenda of BEMs. This study focused on recent 11 years articles and ignored those studies from journals that are focusing on an area other than quality and management, dissertations and books. The results of the study would also benefit academicians, researchers, and professionals to focus on the pertinence, growth and research developments in the Lean management field and BE system. This study is possibly one such comprehensive systematic literature reviews focusing on a vital agenda of leadership and Lean management in BE. All the texts, tables and figures presented in this paper were original work carried out by authors.

In this article, we cumulate previous research findings indicating that cyber-physical production systems bring about operations shaping social sustainability performance technologically. We contribute to the literature on sustainable cyber-physical production systems by showing that the technological and operations management features of cyber-physical systems constitute the components of data-driven sustainable smart manufacturing. Throughout September 2020, we performed a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases, with search terms including “sustainable industrial value creation”, “cyber-physical production systems”, “sustainable smart manufacturing”, “smart economy”, “industrial big data analytics”, “sustainable Internet of Things”, and “sustainable Industry 4.0”. As we inspected research published only in 2019 and 2020, only 323 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By eliminating controversial findings, outcomes unsubstantiated by replication, too imprecise material, or having similar titles, we decided upon 119, generally empirical, sources. Future research should investigate whether Industry 4.0-based manufacturing technologies can ensure the sustainability of big data-driven production systems by use of Internet of Things sensing networks and deep learning-assisted smart process planning.

AbstractOne often-cited benefit of using metal additive manufacturing (AM) is the possibility to design and produce complex geometries that suit the required function and performance of end-use parts. In this context, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is one suitable AM process. Due to accessibility issues and cost-reduction potentials, such ‘complex’ LPBF parts should utilise net-shape manufacturing with minimal use of post-process machining. The inherent surface roughness of LPBF could, however, impede part performance, especially from a structural perspective and in particular regarding fatigue. Engineers must therefore understand the influence of surface roughness on part performance and how to consider it during design. This paper presents a systematic literature review of research related to LPBF surface roughness. In general, research focuses on the relationship between surface roughness and LPBF build parameters, material properties, or post-processing. Research on design support on how to consider surface roughness during design for AM is however scarce. Future research on such supports is therefore important given the effects of surface roughness highlighted in other research fields.

Industry 4.0 proposes the incorporation of information technologies at all levels of the production process. By incorporating these technologies, Industry 4.0 provides new tools for production planning processes, allowing to address problems in an innovative and efficient manner. From these technologies and tools, it is that in this work a One-of-a-Kind Production (OKP) process is approached, where the products tend to be highly customized. OKP implies working with a very large variability within production, demanding very efficient planning systems. For this, a planning model based on CONWIP-type strategies was proposed, which seeks to level the production of a shop floor configured in the form of a job shop. Even more, for having a more realistic shop-floor representation, machine failures have been included in the model. In turn, different dispatching rules were proposed to study the performance and analyze the behaviour of the system. From the results obtained, it is observed that, when the production demand is very exigent in relation with the capacity of the system, the dispatching rules that analyze the workload generated by each job tend to perform better. However, when the demand on the capacity of the production system is less intense, the rules associated with due dates are the ones that obtain the best results.

В статье приводится характеристика основных этапов развития экономико-географических исследований в Тихоокеанском институте географии с момента его организации. Выделено 5 этапов и представлены наиболее важные результаты экономико-географических исследований, полученных в лаборатории территориально-хозяйственных структур за 50 лет. Научные направления исследований определялись общими задачами, решаемыми Тихоокеанским институтом географии, в первую очередь это комплексные прогнозно-географические исследования разномасштабных геосистем Дальнего Востока России в контактной зоне «суша–океан». В основу выделения этапов исследований положены изменения тем научно-исследовательской работы лаборатории. Основным направлением в течение большого периода времени было изучение разноранговых территориально-хозяйственных структур Дальнего Востока, географических, в т.ч. природно-ресурсных, и геополитических факторов их развития. Изложены основные результаты, полученные сотрудниками лаборатории на разных этапах, в т.ч. теоретических и методологических исследований географического пространства и разноранговых пространственных систем, географических и геополитических факторов формирования разноранговых территориально-хозяйственных структур, в том числе трансграничных и аква-территориальных, разработки предложений для Программ устойчивого развития регионов, методов исследования производственно-природных отношений в локальных и районных территориально-производственных системах, оценки территориальных сочетаний природных ресурсов, изучения особенностей трансформации территориально-отраслевых структур, районирования территории и прибрежной акватории Дальнего Востока и т.д. Отдельные экономико-географические исследования имеют и большое практическое значение. В первую очередь, это разработанные в лаборатории предложения для Стратегий и Программ социально-экономического развития Дальнего Востока, Приморского края, агломерации Владивостока и других территорий. The article describes the main stages in the development of economic - geographical research at the Pacific Institute of Geography (now Pacific Geographical Institute) since its organization. The authors identified five such stages and presented the most important results of economic and geographical research accomplished in their laboratory of spatial-economic structures for 50 years. Scientific directions of these researches were determined by the general tasks solved by the Pacific Geographical Institute, in first turn, comprehensive forecasting and geographical research of different-scale geosystems of the Far East of Russia in the ‘land-ocean’ contact zone. The selection of the research stages was based on changes in the topics of the laboratory’s research work. For a long time its main topic was in the studies of multi-ranked territorial and economic structures of the Far East, and geographical factors of their development including natural resource and geopolitical ones. The main research activities of the laboratory staff at different stages included theoretical and methodological studies of geographic space and different-ranked spatial systems; geographical and geopolitical factors in the formation of multi-ranked territorial and economic structures, including transboundary and aqua-territorial ones; working out of proposals to the state programs of the sustainable development of regions; methods of researching the productive-natural relations in local and regional territorial-production systems; assessing the territorial combinations of natural resources; studying the features of the transformation of territorial and sectoral structures; zoning the territory and coastal waters of the Far East, etc. Separate economic and geographical studies are also of great practical importance. In first turn, there are proposals developed in the laboratory for strategies and programs of the socio-economic development of the Far East, Primorsky Kray, Vladivostok agglomeration and other territories.

AbstractCyber-physical systems are hybrid networked cyber and engineered physical elements that record data (e.g. using sensors), analyse them using connected services, influence physical processes and interact with human actors using multi-channel interfaces. Examples of CPS interacting with humans in industrial production environments are the so-called cyber-physical production systems (CPPS), where operators supervise the industrial machines, according to the human-in-the-loop paradigm. In this scenario, research challenges for implementing CPPS resilience, promptly reacting to faults, concern: (i) the complex structure of CPPS, which cannot be addressed as a monolithic system, but as a dynamic ecosystem of single CPS interacting and influencing each other; (ii) the volume, velocity and variety of data (Big Data) on which resilience is based, which call for novel methods and techniques to ensure recovery procedures; (iii) the involvement of human factors in these systems. In this paper, we address the design of resilient cyber-physical production systems (R-CPPS) in digital factories by facing these challenges. Specifically, each component of the R-CPPS is modelled as a smart machine, that is, a cyber-physical system equipped with a set of recovery services, a Sensor Data API used to collect sensor data acquired from the physical side for monitoring the component behaviour, and an operator interface for displaying detected anomalous conditions and notifying necessary recovery actions to on-field operators. A context-based mediator, at shop floor level, is in charge of ensuring resilience by gathering data from the CPPS, selecting the proper recovery actions and invoking corresponding recovery services on the target CPS. Finally, data summarisation and relevance evaluation techniques are used for supporting the identification of anomalous conditions in the presence of high volume and velocity of data collected through the Sensor Data API. The approach is validated in a food industry real case study.

Engineering concepts usually, are complex concepts, thus many times are difficult for infusing into curriculums or to be comprehensive for practitioners. A concept that still now is not fully understandable is that of Industry 4.0, an approach that increases the complexity of production systems. Nowadays production systems are facing new challenges, as physical productions systems and internet technologies are directly linked, hence increasing the complexity but also the productivity of the systems. The paper introduces an approach of visualizing the concept of smart manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0, as the term is not clearly specified, although has attracted attention both academicians and businesses. Concept mapping is a method of capturing and visualizing complex ideas. Concept maps are graphical tools for organizing, representing and communicating complex ideas by breaking them into more key concepts. As Industry 4.0 is a factor that can boost innovation and competitiveness of business, all parties involved in shaping the strategy of an organization, should perceive the issues to be covered. Furthermore, learners must be prepared to meet these challenges and knowledgebuilding activities may enhance their process of learning. The paper makes an interesting and valuable contribution, by identifying key concepts within the subject of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, using the method of concept mapping. Taking into consideration these concepts a conceptual framework will be introduced, by using the software tool CmapTools. The map can be used as a basis for future research in constructing a more comprehensive framework and identifying the concepts that describe smart manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0, in a more thorough manner.

Interoperability in smart manufacturing refers to how interconnected cyber-physical components exchange information and interact. This is still an exploratory topic, and despite the increasing number of applications, many challenges remain open. This chapter presents an integrative framework to understand common practices, concepts, and technologies used in trending research to achieve interoperability in production systems. The chapter starts with the question of what interoperability is and provides an alternative answer based on influential works in the field, followed by the presentation of important reference models and their relation to smart manufacturing. It continues by discussing different types of interoperability, data formats, and common ontologies necessary for the integration of heterogeneous systems and the contribution of emerging technologies in achieving interoperability. This chapter ends with a discussion of a recent use case and final remarks.
