Testing and examining go on in higher education all the time through continuous assessments and end semester examinations. The grades scored by students determine not only academic mobility but eventually who get employed in the job market, which seems to be shrinking all over the world. Those charged with testing are often staff who have higher qualifications in their subject areas but are not necessarily teaching or examination experts. Against this background, the researcher wanted to find out what was happening at selected university across three schools: Social Studies, Education and Science. The university is fairly young having been awarded its charter twenty years ago. The paper asked two questions namely, at what levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy are lecturers asking examination questions? Secondly, do the level and balance of questions show growth in examining skills? The study evaluated over 1039 questions from randomly selected examination papers from the Examinations Office for the academic years from 2014/15 to 2017/18 (three academic years). A guide from the list of verbs used in Anderson s (revision of Bloom was used to analyze the questions. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the trends in testing for each year. ANOVA and t-tests were used to find out if there were significant differences between numbers across categories and within categories. The results of the study show that most examination questions are at the levels of remember (literal) and knowledge (understand). In 2016/17 and 2017/18 academic years, there were significant differences in the percentage of questions examined in these two categories. However, it seems from the study, that testing or examining skills do not grow through the practice of setting questions. There is need for examiners to be trained to use the knowledge in setting questions that discriminate effectively across the academic abilities of students they teach.

Background: Self-medication or self-care is regarded as an unhealthy practice. However, it is widely accepted and practiced in the low and middle-income countries (LMICs) due to scarcity of health resources. Objectives: To assess the prevalence and practice of self-medication among university students in Pakistan through online resources. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between May 2017 and August 2017 by involving 991 university students. A questionnaire was administered to obtain data. Results: The majority 85.9% (852/991) of the respondents knew aboutonline medicines and their uses of self-medication. Overall, 68% (674/991) of them have to travel long-distances to access essential health services. Nearly half (41.7%) of the respondents procured drugs through the online sources, while only 15.6% of them obtained through pharmacies. Conclusions: The rampant irrational use of drugs without medical guidance could contribute to adverse consequences viz.; the emergence of multi-drug resistance, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions etc. Strict regulations must be enforced to limit public access to online-drugs by the law-enforcement agencies.

The article provides a brief overview of the scientific, organizational and pedagogical activities of the outstanding Russian historian and sociologist N.I. Kareev (1850–1931). The main focus is his participation in the processes of the initial period of institutionalizing sociology in Russia: the publication of scientific papers and textbooks on sociology. He was the first person in Russia to give a systematic course in sociology to university students, was co-opted to the Council of the Psychoneurological Institute, in which the first department of sociology was established in Russia. During Soviet times N.I. Kareev taught sociology in Petrograd at Women’s Courses. In 1918, by decision of the People’s Commissariat of Education, he was included in the list of 30 Russian professors who taught sociology at universities of Petrograd and sociological courses for sociology teachers working at secondary schools. N.I. Kareev took an active part in the formation and functioning of the sociological section at the Historical Society of St. Petersburg University and the М.М. Kovalevsky Sociological Society. In 1919, N.I. Kareev actively participated in the formation of the departments of sociology, sociological and social studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Petrograd University. But later, his activity began to receive less and less approval from the new organizers of science and education in Russia.

The notion of general self-effacing gives a vital theoretical tool for observing the viability, execution, and soundness of a person's work. Scherr's hypotheses about general self-efficacy are characterized by a global view of the subject.

The desperation is a kind of negative foresight on the contrary of positive foresight for the future. That is to say, to some extend, and it is an emotional situation having negative expectations for the future. The aim of the study, determination the factors that are affecting the university students’ desperation levels. This study was conducted to examine the students of Kafkas university despite levels for the future. The sampling groups of this study were the students of Kafkas University Education Faculty educated at Physical Education and Sports Department (25 students), Basic Mathematics Teaching Department (25 students), Science Teaching Department (25 students), and Social Studies Teacher’s Department (25 students) 4th class totally 100 participant students in 2016-2017 academic year. The sampling group was selected using simple random—the data handed with the help of the data collecting scale evaluated by using the SPSS Package Program. The preferences are “Yes (Correct) and No (Wrong)”. As a result of this study, there wasn’t a meaningful difference in the participant students’ desperation levels according to the variables. Students’ desperation level means were lower than p < 0.05.

Background: Physical activity (PA) promotes health and well-being. For students, university represents a transitional period, including increased independence over lifestyle behaviors, in addition to new stressors and barriers to engaging in PA. It is, therefore, important to monitor PA trends in students to gain a greater understanding about the role it might play in physical and mental well-being, as well as other factors, such as attainment and employability. Methods: Cross-sectional surveys were conducted in 2016 in Scottish universities and colleges, and in 2017 in universities and colleges across the United Kingdom, and the data were pooled for the present study (N = 11,650). Cumulative ordinal logistic regression was used to model the association between PA levels and mental and personal well-being, social isolation, and perceptions of academic attainment and employability. Results: Only 51% of the respondents met the recommended levels of moderate to vigorous PA per week. There was a linear relationship between PA levels and all outcomes, with better scores in more active students. Conclusions: UK university students are insufficiently active compared with the general population of 16- to 24-year olds. Yet, students with higher PA report better outcomes for mental and personal well-being, social isolation, and perceptions of academic attainment and employability.
