Green chemistry occupies a research frontier that is the subject of much current research activity. Although it is not a new branch of chemistry, it demands distinctive thought processes about existing and new chemistry tools, as well as knowledge and creative design of those chemical principles that can contribute toward societal growth whilst protecting the environment and human health. To achieve these ends, it is necessary to create more awareness in the lay public, and to ensure that teachers and students at all levels of education become familiar with the basic concepts and their beneficial outcomes. In this respect, developing countries still have much to do in order to achieve higher levels of awareness of and participation in a greener vision.The IUPAC-sponsored Second International Symposium on Green/Sustainable Chemistry, held in Delhi on 10-13 January 2006, contributed successfully to promoting international awareness of green chemistry. Almost 550 delegates attended from 22 countries and participated in deliberations on recent advances in the trend toward more environmentally friendly practice of chemistry. In addition to a program of 8 plenary lectures and three-way parallel sessions for 31 main and 44 invited lectures by eminent scientists, upcoming doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows gave 33 oral presentations on their contributions to future developments in green chemistry. The poster presentations showcased up-to-date research on a range of topics including synthesis of bioactive compounds, green edges of physical chemistry including computational methods, and the use of biomaterials, nanotechnology, biomimetic processes, microwave technology, and ionic liquids, amongst others. The subject of methodological industrialization attracted much interest and served as a source of information and inspiration to representatives from no less than 28 chemical and pharmaceutical companies.The Symposium has contributed to the growing recognition that government, industry, and the academic sector need to cooperate closely, in order to achieve and promote the cause of green chemistry and its beneficial consequences throughout the world. The challenge for the chemistry community is to recognize the need and pursue research that engages environmentally friendly challenges and outcomes. Chemistry provides many of the tools that enable us to understand and influence the environment, and has the potential to be a decisive factor in securing an environmentally acceptable future for humankind. At the practical level, each advance through development of a safe process or a safe product contributes to that future. Much has already been achieved, but a great deal more remains to be done. The publication of this collection of papers, based upon a selection of lectures of the Symposium, provides an overview of some of the chemistry through which clean, eco-friendly, and less wasteful manufacturing processes for sustainable development is increasingly being realized.The International Organizing Committee contributed to shaping the program for this important event in the international calendar of green chemistry activities. Thanks are due to the Local Organizing Committee for the efficiency and excellence of the arrangements and for the gracious hospitality extended to all participants. Background: Oral and poster presentations at annual national meetings of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (RSGH) provide a forum for education, communication and discussion of new research. However, for the wide-spread dissemination of the new research work, each presentation should be subsequently published as a full-text article in peer-reviewed, indexed journals. Aim: to evaluate the publication rate of full-text articles in peer-reviewed journals after being first presented as abstracts at two consecutive RSGH annual meetings. Methods: A retrospective review of all abstracts presented at the annual meetings in 2013 and 2014 was performed. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched using abstract titles, first author’s name and affiliation, and key words from the title to identify whether an abstract resulted in a peer-reviewed publication. Abstracts published in full-text were subsequently assessed for study type, study center, topics, publication year, journals and their impact factors (IFs). We chose the 2013 and 2014 meetings to ensure a minimum two-year follow-up period since the last meeting for the publication as full-length articles. Results: A total of 562 abstracts were presented (275 in 2013, 287 in 2014). There were 150 oral presentations (93 in 2013, 57 in 2014) and 412 poster presentations (182 in 2013, 230 in 2014). Fifty seven of them (10.1%) were published as full-text articles, among them 26 (17.3%) after oral presentations and 31 (7.5%) after poster presentations (P=0.001). University affiliation and original research work were most likely to be published. The average IFs of the journals which published the articles were 2.42 in 2013 and 1.87 in 2014. Conclusion: The publication rate for the annual RSGH meetings abstracts as full-text articles in peer-reviewed journals is very low compared to the analyses performed in gastroenterology or other medical specialities from other countries. It is not clear yet what are the factors responsible for the failure of publication. The subject of this article is the project of the “Russian Historical and Cultural Reference Institute” proposed by the philologist and historian of the Russian booklore P. K. Simoni for consideration by the Academic Council of the Russian Historical Museum in May 1917. The October Revolution triggered the major changes in the infrastructure of historical science. Dozens of scientific and cultural establishments were restructured or ceased their activity, and dozens opened up. The project of P. K. Simoni was one of many in this series of transformations. It was developed by a practicing scholar in the humanities, who knew firsthand about all the difficulties of research work, which defines the uniqueness of this project. This fact makes this document a valuable historical source on the history of the Russian humanities in the late XIX – early XX centuries. Although the project of P. K. Simoni has been previously mentioned in the special literature, this is the first detailed analysis on the topic. The conducted analysis allowed revealing the challenge faced by scholars in the humanities of the late XIX – early XX centuries in their research activity, as well as outlining the possibilities for establishment of a new institution to resolve them. The author described the similar in their concept projects, which inspired P. K. Simoni in his work, as well as determined the similarities and differences of the proposed solutions. The conclusion was made that the Russian scientific community requires an institution that would solve the tasks of information support for the humanities, since the 1820s. Such need was formulated, clarified and modified over time, and yet does not fully meet the demands.

On behalf of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology, we are pleased to present the Abstracts from the 2021 Annual Conference, titled “Advocating for All: Psychosocial Oncology at the Intersections of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion”. The Conference was held virtually from 8 June 2021 to 10 June 2021. This conference brought together key stakeholders including multidisciplinary professionals from nursing, psychology, psychiatry, social work, spiritual care, nutrition, medicine, rehabilitation medicine, occupational health and radiation therapy for both adult and pediatric populations. Participants included clinicians, researchers, educators in cancer care, community-based organizations and patient representatives. Patients, caregivers and family members presented abstracts that speak to their role in managing cancer experiences and care. Over one hundred (100) abstracts were selected for presentation as symposia, 20-minute oral presentations, 10-minute oral presentations, 90-minute workshops and poster presentations. We congratulate all the presenters on their research work and contribution.

Writing, regarded as a thinking process enables language learners to explore and transform their ideas into words in accurate and appropriate ways. Although it has been taught from the Elementary school level up to the higher level of education, English teachers and students encounter various challenges. For students, they still get difficulties in writing a text even after being taught. For teachers, correcting students’ writing increases their workload. Therefore, how to reduce the load of teaching writing and to decrease students’ difficulties in writing have become important problem to solve. Through applying a technique in teaching writing, this research aimed to explore whether the application of peer review technique can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text. The method applied in this research was a classroom action research. The subject of the research was X-4 class SMA Negeri 21 Medan. The instruments of collecting the data were writing tasks as quantitative data while observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, diary notes and interview as qualitative data. This research developed Science, Environment, Technology, Society (SETS) e-module integrated with predict, observe, explain (POE) model on the subject matter of Earth Layer and Its Dynamics for grade VII students. This study aimed to reveal i) the feasibility of the developed e-module for grade VII students, and ii) the practicality of the developed e-module and its dynamics. This is a developmental research adopting the ADDIE model consisting of five stages, i.e.: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of the limited test consisted of 15 students of grade VIII.G of Public Junior High School 8 Yogyakarta. The data were collected using a product feasibility assessment sheet for material and media experts, a product practicality assessment sheet for teachers, and a product readability assessment sheet for students. The results show that the developed e-module was feasible to be used according to the material and media experts and the developed e-module is practical according to teachers and students.

Research is considered a function aimed at obtaining new knowledge and its application for the solution to problems or questions of a scientific nature, The universities framed in the fulfillment of their social function have a complex task given by training a competent professional who assumes research as part of their training and who learns to ask questions that they are able to solve through scientific research.  Scientific research is an indicator of the quality of processes in the university environment, so it must be increased by virtue of the results of the work carried out by research teachers and students the objective of this work is to know the perception of the teachers of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Guayaquil about the scientific activity. Objective: to know the perception of the teachers of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Guayaquil about the scientific activity. Methods: theoretical and empirical level were used, a questionnaire with closed questions aimed at knowing the opinions on the research activity in this institution was applied. Result: that of the sample analyzed 309 (39.3%) said they agreed with the training for the writing of scientific articles. 38.6% said they agree with the training on research projects. Conclusion: that teacher’s research should be enhanced to ensure the formation and development of research skills in students.

This study was aimed at identifying new effective forms that could facilitate the achievement of a practice-oriented result, i.e. students’ ability to communicate in any speech situation, as well as their readiness for various kinds of oral and written examination tests, including the public defence of projects in the 10th grade and writing December essays in the 11th grade. The article considers rhetorical competitions as a means of developing communicative and linguistic competencies among 10th–11th grade students of a polycultural school. The article provides recommendations on organizing such competitions, criteria for evaluating presentations, examples of oral presentations. A textual analysis of the folklore material of Dagestanian and Russian fairy tales and proverbs allowed the authors to conclude that an inexhaustible set of universal themes that have become the subject of reflection in different nations, can teach students to respect other cultures and extend their knowledge of the world and other people. The experience of a rhetorical competition in high school on the basis of fairy tales and proverbs of different nations is expected to help students form such core competencies as critical thinking, creativity, communication and cooperation (ability to work in a team).
