Patellofemoral pain (PFP) can cause significant pain leading to limitations in societal participation and physical activity. PFP is usually associated with athletes undergoing intensive physical training, or military recruits; but recent evidence shows that PFP is common in the general population. The relationship of PFP with physical activity is not entirely clear. Our aim is to provide a better estimate of the general population prevalence of PFP and to relate this to the level of physical activity, and demographic characteristics. The Survey instrument for Natural history, Aetiology and Prevalence of Patellofemoral pain Studies (SNAPPS) was developed as a PFP screening tool to be used in the community. The electronic version of the SNAPPS (eSNAPPS) has recently been validated and was used to survey attendees at mass-participation running events. We will use an electronic survey to collect data from a sample of 1100 Rugby League World Cup spectators. The survey will have four sections: i) general and demographic; ii) knee pain (eSNAPPS); iii) level of physical activity; and iv) quality of life in relation to knee pain. The primary analytic approach will be descriptive of PFP prevalence. Secondary analyses will explore the relationships of the presence of PFP and the other variables. We will disseminate this work by publication of peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals, presentations at scientific conferences, and on the dedicated SNAPPS website https://www.snappspfp.com/.

National and international healthcare organizations propose guidelines for physical activity worldwide, defining its characteristics. These guidelines’ practical applications are difficult to estimate, since they are not fully followed. The aim of the present cross-sectional observational study was to assess awareness about guidelines for physical activity and to evaluate their practical applications in a sample of the Italian population. In total, 310 participants completed an online survey (mean age 29.10 ± 4.44), assessing the habits, beliefs and health effects of physical activity. In total, 39.35% of respondents were inactive. In total, 6.91% of active respondents did not perform a warm-up phase at the beginning of each training session and 77.14% did not check their own heart rate during the training session. Approximately half of respondents reported erroneous beliefs about the type, frequency and volume of physical activity, compared to data proposed by the guidelines. The preventive effect of physical activity was clearly perceived for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and depression. Several subjects misinterpreted the preventive role of physical activity in colon and breast cancers, and in femur and vertebral fractures. Habits and beliefs about physical activity in the general population are far from the guidelines and recommendations. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the conscious practice of physical activity further.

BACKGROUND: Indonesia, the world’s fourth-most populous country, is grappling with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) catastrophe as cases continue to rise. This situation induces uncertainties and changes in daily life, leading to uneasiness among the population, which may trigger anxiety symptoms. AIM: This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the anxiety level among the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 267 adults from June 10, 2020, to June 15, 2020, the transition phase week after Large-scale Social Restriction of Indonesia. The survey was conducted online using a Google Form distributed through social media (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter). Respondents over 18 years old, who agreed to participate in this study, were asked to complete the questionnaire by clicking the link. The anxiety level was measured by the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. RESULTS: The results of this study showed a significant correlation between age (p = 0.010), education (p = 0.039), personal income (p = 0.034), media exposure (p < 0.01), physical activity (p < 0.01), and anxiety diagnosis (p < 0.01) with the anxiety level among general people. However, ordinal logistics regression revealed that only respondents living in the city (odds ratio [OR] = 2.476) and people with clinician-anxiety diagnosis (OR = 5.116) were more likely to experience anxiety symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. CONCLUSION: According to the obtained results, age, education level, average income per month, media exposure, physical activity, and anxiety diagnosis correlated with anxiety incidence, whereas risk factors of anxiety included current residence and anxiety diagnosis.

Knee pain, also known as patellofemoral pain, (PFP), is a condition characterized by knee pain ranging from severe to mild discomfort seemingly originating from the contact of the posterior surface of the patella (back of the kneecap) with the femur (thigh bone). Knee pain or Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is one of the most common disorders of the lower extremity, accounting for 25% of all knee injuries treated in orthopedic clinics Objective: To find Prevalence of knee pain among females using high heels. Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted in University of Lahore. Sample size of 147 was calculated by Epi-tool formula. Data were collected by using questionnaire. Knee pain in females using high heels was measured by using a questionnaire which was consisted on Visual Analog Scale (VAS) Results: Results showed that the prevalence knee pain was to be found 21.1%% in females using high heels. 8 out of 31 respondents said that they faced mild knee pain. The other 19 females said that they faced moderate knee pain and only 4 out of 31 females said that they faced high knee pain Conclusions: Knee pain was frequent among female with lowheight and female who wore high heels

Abstract Background An increasing amount of evidence supports an association between sedentary behaviors and chronic knee pain. However, the association between the total daily duration of sedentary behavior and chronic knee pain in the general population remains unclear. We aimed to analyze the association between sedentary behavior and chronic knee pain in a study population representative of the general Korean population aged > 50 years while also considering the physical activity or body mass index (BMI). Methods This cross-sectional study used data from the 6th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI) of 2013–2015, which was completed by 22,948 Korean adult participants aged > 50 years. The participants were divided into two groups based on the status of the chronic knee pain. Data were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression after adjustment for age, sex, and individual factors. Results Longer sedentary behavior was correlated with chronic knee pain (p for trend = 0.02). Sedentary behavior exceeding 10 h/day was significantly associated with chronic knee pain (adjusted odds ratio, 1.28; p = 0.03). Participants with high levels of physical activity were less likely to suffer from chronic knee pain (adjusted odds ratio, 0.78; p = 0.00), and women with over 10 daily hours of sedentary behavior with high levels of physical activity were more likely to have chronic knee pain. A significant association was noted between chronic knee pain and obesity (≥30.0 kg/m2) individuals (adjusted odds ratio, 3.48; p = 0.04). Conclusions Longer duration of sedentary behaviors was correlated with chronic knee pain. Our study suggests the need to encourage reductions in overall sedentary behavior to < 10 h daily. A high physical activity level is recommended, particularly for women > 50 years and those with obesity.

Abstract Background Patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) may experience spinal stiffness and pain, leading to reduced physical function and quality of life. Despite the benefits of physical activity (PA) and exercise, previous studies have demonstrated lower levels of PA among patients with axSpA. This study aims to examine the patterns of PA among patients with axSpA compared to the general population in a multi-ethnic Asian country. Methods This was a cross-sectional study conducted between May 2016 and Jan 2017. Consecutive patients with axSpA were recruited at an outpatient rheumatology clinic at Singapore General Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Singapore. Controls were based on a previous cross-sectional study. PA was assessed using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ). Results Seventy-four patients with axSpA were recruited and compared with 2679 controls. Lower proportion of patients with axSpA met the WHO recommendations for PA (axSpA = 77.0%, controls = 89.7%, p <  0.001). More patients with axSpA had high level of sedentary activity compared to controls (axSpA = 56.8%, controls = 36.1%, p <  0.001). Levels of PA did not differ between patients with inactive versus active axSpA disease (p = 0.91). Conclusions Proportion of patients with axSpA meeting the WHO recommendations for PA differed significantly from the general population, and level of PA did not differ between patients with active and inactive axSpA disease. Higher levels of sedentary activity were seen in patient with axSpA compared to the general population, highlighting the need for interventions to promote PA among patients with axSpA.

The health benefits of regular physical activity have been well established. The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines (CPAG) specify that adults should accumulate at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) per week. Our study objectives were to: 1) determine the proportion of RA patients in British Columbia (BC) who meet the CPAG, 2) identify the determinants of meeting the recommendations, and 3) compare the duration of time spent in MVPA relative to general population controls using self-reported data. A cross-sectional study was conducted using 2015 data from an annual survey administered to an RA cohort in BC. Normative physical activity data was obtained from the Canadian Community Health Survey. Adjusting for age and sex, the proportion of RA patients who met the guidelines was compared to the general population. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify significant determinants of meeting these guidelines and an ordinary least squares (OLS) model evaluated differences in average MVPA time. A two-part model evaluated the overall amount of MVPA performed by both the RA sample and the general population. After standardization, the sample of 169 RA patients was 21% less likely to meet the CPAG than controls (p=0.028). Individuals who were Caucasian (p=0.019), had better physical function (p=0.003), were an ex-smoker (p=0.022), and had more pain (p=0.018) were more likely to meet guidelines. Although, overall, RA patients spent significantly (p<0.001) less time in MVPA per week than controls, there was no significant difference between the groups among those who exercised weekly.

Osteoporosis means “porous bone”. This condition occurs when body lose minerals like calcium more than body can replace it and this leads to thinning of bone mass and increase fragility of bones. This disease is a silent public health issue because of its increasing morbidities, mortalities and disabilities. Objectives: 1. To determine the frequency of osteoporosis and osteopenia. 2. To find out risk factors associated with osteoporosis and osteopenia. Study Design: This was a Cross Sectional study. Setting: In a private sector Medical College of Faisalabad. Period: From 1st June 2018 to 1st December 2018. Material & Methods: After approval from ethical review committee, this study was conducted through the BMD screening camps held in a private sector Medical College of Faisalabad. It was a cross-sectional study. Data was collected through well-structured close-ended questionnaire. Convenient sampling was done. Calcaneal quantitative ultrasound machine was used to assess bone mineral density of the participants through their right heel. BMD values in the form of T-score were converted by machine. Results: Out of 116 participants 20 (17%) were male and 96 (83%) were female. Factors that were statistically (p ≤0.05) associated with osteoporosis and osteopenia were female gender and inadequate physical activity. More than 50% of the women had either osteoporosis or osteopenia and doing regular physical activity were mainly significant determinants. Exposure to sunlight was not associated with the low BMD or osteoporosis (p>0.05). Conclusion: It is concluded from this study that important modifiable risk factors like increase in calcium and vitamin D intake and life style modification can improve bone health. Health education and awareness programs with special reference to balanced diet should be held to educate general population.
