Para avaliar a qualidade das hastes florais, a cultivar de crisântemo Snowdon foi conduzida em estufa plástica em oito populações de plantas e duas épocas de plantio. O experimento bifatorial (2 x 8), com parcela subdividida, foi conduzido na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (Santa Maria, RS) e teve época como parcela principal, sendo a primeira época outono/inverno no período de 05/03/98 à 29/06/98 e a segunda época inverno/primavera no período de 22/07/98 à 11/11/98 e as populações de 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88 e 104pl/m², na subparcela para as duas épocas de plantio. As plantas foram conduzidas em haste unifloral. Determinaram-se a altura da planta, o diâmetro da inflorescência e da haste e a massa da matéria fresca. Para obtenção de maiores rendimentos de hastes de classe A (comprimento da haste > ou = 90 cm, diâmetro da inflorescência > ou = 13,5cm, diâmetro da haste > ou = 0,73cm e massa da matéria fresca > ou = 113g) a população indicada está entre 40 e 56plantas/m². Não há diferenças de rendimento qualitativo de classe A entre as épocas de plantio. Para obtenção de maiores rendimentos qualitativos, as populações de plantas não devem ser superiores a 72 plantas/m².

Novel chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Kitam.) somaclones from seven commercial cultivars were obtained through the petal segments culture. Morphological variation of the derived clones observed from the field trials was found to be cultivar specific. The major variants within the same cultivar were found only color and inflorescence shape deviation, whereby leaf and stem characters remained unchanged. Distinct variations were found in the 'Pinkgin' cultivar that color changed from magenta to red. The morphological differences of the tested somaclones showed high correlation with the RAPD patterns analysis.  The morphological differences of the tested somaclones were shown to be highly correlated using RAPD pattern analysis. RAPD markers, using ten primers could better separate each cultivar at 80% similarity value. All the somaclones could be singly separated at 90% similarity. However, the higher level of variability of RAPD patterns in chrysanthemum rendered these RAPD fragments as good candidates for somaclonal and cultivar identification. An efficient, high-frequency regeneration and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system was developed allowing the genetic engineering of three chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev) cultivars: the formerly recalcitrant and economically important cut-flower mum `Polaris' and two potted mums, `Hekla' and `Iridon'. The regeneration protocol used leaf explants on a sequence of media with four hormone regimes. Explants were first cultured on an embryogenesis-type medium containing a high concentration of 2,4-D, which promoted callus formation. Shoot primordia were induced by culture on medium lacking 2,4-D, followed by shoot elongation on a high-cytokinin plus gibberellic acid medium. Finally, elongated shoots were rooted on a low-auxin rooting medium. Transformed plants of the three cultivars were obtained following co-culture of leaf explants with A. tumefaciens strain EHA 105 harboring the plasmid pBI121 containing genes for neomycin phosphotransferase II (NPTII) and β-glucuronidase (GUS). Stable transformation of the three cultivars was verified via GUS assays and Southern analysis.

Chrysanthemum varieties in Indonesia is largely the introduced varieties. Chrysanthemum hybridization especially for decorative flower type in order to obtain superior varieties is relatively difficult, so the mutation breeding is one approach that can be taken to get the chrysanthemum varieties with different phenotypic performances with the that parent.The purpose of this study was to obtain information genetic and phenotypic variability characters observed on chrysanthemum irradiated with gamma ray. The experiment was conducted by an experimental method using a randomized block design (RBD). The treatments consisted of 37 mutants genotypes and 11 genotypes chrysanthemums parent as controls with two replications. The results of this study indicated that the genotypes tested had broad genetic and phenotipic variation for the plant height, flower diameter, number of flower and neck lengths.Key words: Chrysanthemum mutants, Variability, Gamma ray irradiation.ABSTRAKKrisan merupakan komoditas tanaman hias utama di Indonesia dan paling banyak diminati masyarakat. Varietas-varietas krisan yang beredar di Indonesia sebagian besar merupakan varietas introduksi. Persilangan krisan khususnya untuk tipe bunga dekoratif dalam rangka memperoleh varietas unggul relatif sulit dilakukan, sehingga pemuliaan mutasi merupakan salah satu pendekatan yang dapat ditempuh untuk mendapatkan varietas krisan dengan penampilan fenotipik yang berbeda dengan induknya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan informasi variabilitas genetik dan fenotipik karakter-karakter yang diamati pada tanaman krisan yangd iradiasi dengan sinar gamma. Percobaan dilakukan dengan metode eksperimen menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK). Perlakuan terdiri atas 37 genotipe mutan krisan dan 11 genotipe tetua krisan sebagai kontrol dengan dua ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa genotipe-genotipe yang diuji memiliki variabilitas yang luas untuk karakter tinggi tanaman, diameter bunga, jumlah kuntum dan panjang tangkai bunga.Kata kunci: Mutan krisan, Variabilitas, Sinar gamma

This study investigated the effects of growth retardants uniconazole [(E) - (p-chlorohenyl) -4, 4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-1-penten-3-ol] and daminozide (butanedioic acid mono 2,2-dimethylhydrazide) on three chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev.) cultivars. Uniconazole applied as a soil drench (0.02 mg a.i. pot−1) or foliar spray (0.014 mg a.i. pot−1) 10 d after removal of the shoot tip reduced plant height at harvest in cultivars Deep Luv, Tip and Tara. Higher doses of uniconazole resulted in further plant height reduction in Tip and Tara but not in Deep Luv. Daminozide spray (14 mg a.i. pot) and uniconazole spray (0.028 or 0.056 mg a.i. pot−1) produced plants of similar height. Pre-plant dips of both growth retardants were less effective than sprays or drenches in controlling height. Flower area and flower dry weight were reduced with uniconazole drench and spray, and daminozide spray in each cultivar. Shoot dry weight was similarly affected in Tip and Tara but not in Deep Luv. Flowering was delayed in each cultivar by post-plant treatments of uniconazole drench and spray and by daminozide spray (0.08, 0.014 and 14 mg a.i. pot−1, respectively), and by daminozide and uniconazole pre-plant dips (5.0 mg L−1 and 4000 mg L−1, respectively).Key words: Sumagic, XE-1019, B-Nine, Alar, Chrysanthemum × morifolium, Dendanthema grandiflora

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) presents a high susceptibility for the attack of pathogens, resulting in low productivity of seeds. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the physiological and sanitary quality of safflower seeds submitted to different treatments. The experiment was conducted in the Floricultural Sector and in the Didactic and Seed Research Laboratory, in completely randomized design, with 4x9 (lots of seeds and treatment of seeds), with four repetitions. The lots of seeds were cultivated in the crop 2017/2018, the sowing occurred in the first fortnight of each season of the year (autumn, winter, spring and summer). After collected, the lots were stored in cold chamber with average degree of humidity of 9.0%. The treatments of seeds were constituted by: control, thermotherapy via humid heat, thermotherapy via dry heat, Trichoderma harzianum, chemical fungicide with active ingredients of Carbendazim+Thiram, Metalaxyl-M+Fludioxonil and Carboxin+Thiram, vegetal extracts of Dendranthema grandiflora and of Melia azedaeach. We evaluated the seeds treated by the standard test of germination, length and mass of seedlings, emergence and sanity. We observed that all the tested treatments benefit the safflower culture, promoting improvement in its germination, with efficient establishment of seedlings in the field. At the same time that was carried out the infestation control of the pathogens on the same, among the treatments we highlight the chemical fungicide with active ingredient Carbendazim+Thiram.
