Proper stocking density on larval rearing of barred loach (Nemacheilus fasciatus Valenciennes, 1846) is very important in terms of obtaining the best growth and survival rate. This study was aimed to observe the growth and survival rate of barred loach subjected to different larval stocking density. Fish larvae were obtained by artificial spawning from in aquarium. Larvae were stocked on aquariums (50 × 40 × 30 cm) with three stocking density treatments (5, 10, and 15 individuals/L) and three replications. The experimental fish larvae were fed by Artemia and commercial feed (crude protein content: 30%) and feeding frequency twice per day (ad libitum). The length and weight were reassured every 10 days during 70 days of rearing period. Temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen were measured at each treatment. Data obtained from measurements were analysed to assess the length gain, weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), biomass gain, and survival rate. The results showed length gain of 3.35 ± 0.01, 2.94 ± 0.10, and 2.82 ± 0.15 cm and weight gain of 0.573 ± 0.023, 0.436 ± 0.018, and 0.417 ± 0.043 g in larval stocking density of 5, 10 and 15 individuals/L, respectively. Specific growth rates and biomass growth were of 6.22 ± 0.41, 5.93 ± 0.21, and 5.68 ± 0.41 %/day and 94.04 ± 5.39, 146.80 ± 3.81, and 167.24 ± 17.48 g in larval stocking density of 5, 10 and 15 individuals/L, respectively. Meanwhile, the survival rates obtained in this study were 89.13 ± 7.25, 93.13 ± 5.13, and 76.50 ± 3.54 % in larval stocking density of 5, 10 and 15 individuals/L, respectively. Increased stocking density has a negative impact on the growth and survival rate of barred loach.

Biofloc technology (BFT) is an approach in aquaculture that has gained much interest and is currently widely being studied and applied. In this study, silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) post-larvae were reared in a BFT system, at different stocking densities (10, 20, 30 and 40 post-larvae/L), for 21 days. After two weeks, fish larvae subjected to the higher stoking density showed greater weight gain. At the end of the trial (21 days), no relevant differences between treatments were observed related to growth parameters. However, post-larvae reared at the stocking density of 20 post-larvae/L presented a higher survival rate.

The effect of stocking density on growth of zebra fish was examined. Total five different stocking densities (5, 15, 25, 35 and 45 individuals per 2 liters of water) were maintained in triplicate for a period of 60 days. One month old zebrafish were randomly stocked into 15 tanks and fish were fed with commercial diet. The mean weight gain, specific growth rate and length gain for treatment 1 (5 fish/2liter) and treatment 2 (15 fish/2 liter) were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than treatment 3 (25 fish/2 liter), treatment 4 (35 fish/2 liter) and treatment 5 (45 fish/2 liter). The gender weight gain, survival rate and condition factor did not show any significant (p > 0.05) difference among treatments. The result of this study suggests that the stocking density of zebrafish could be 15 fish per 2 litre of water in a laboratory system with aeration.Bangladesh J. Zool. 44(2): 209-218, 2016

The efficacy and suitability of dietary whole wheat flour supplementation was evaluated on the growth performance and survival of rohu (Labeo rohita). The study was conducted in 12 experimental aquaria at the Wet Laboratory, Department of Aquaculture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. A total of 180 fingerlings of mean initial weight of 1.744±00 g were stocked at the same stocking density (268 fingerlings/m3). Four different treatments (T1, T2, T3 and T4) each with three replications were performed having different level of whole wheat flour such as 0% whole wheat flour (T1), 5% whole wheat flour (T2), 10% whole wheat flour (T3) and 15% whole wheat flour (T4). Feeds were supplied at 5% body weight twice daily in the morning at 9.00 am and in the afternoon at 5.00 pm throughout the study period. The rations were adjusted every week when new weights of the fish for various experimental aquariums were determined. At the end of the 63 days study period, the growth performance parameters such as mean final weight (g), weight gain (g), percent weight gain (%), specific growth rate (%/day) and the best feed utilization in terms of food conversion ratio were found highest at treatment 4 where fishes were fed with inclusion of 15% whole wheat flour and lowest was found at treatment 1 (fed with inclusion of 0% whole wheat flour). Water quality parameters were within the acceptable range and survival rate was found 100% in all treatment. Therefore, it can be concluded that treatment 4 (highest growth performance and survival rate of L. rohita with supplementation of 15% whole wheat flour containing diet) can be chosen by fish farmers for commercial culture of this species. This research aimed to determine the optimal dosage of potassium diformate addition to commercial feed in order to increase the growth and survival rate of common carp seeds. The method used in this research was experimental in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and four replications. The treatments used were A (control), B with addition of potassium diformate (0.2%), C (0.3%), D (0.4%), and E (0.5%). For test fish, there were 200 of Common carp seeds with a size of 2-3 cm. The media used was 20 aquariums with a size of 40x30x40 cm3 and a stocking density of 10 individuals/aquarium. The rearing period was 35 days and the amount of feed given was 3% of the fish body weight. The parameters observed included water quality (temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen) which were observed every 7 days for 35 days. Other parameters  monitored were daily growth rate, survival rate, feed efficiency, and the acidity level of the intestine. The results showed that 0.3% addition of potassium diformate gave the best results with a daily growth rate value of 3.21%, highest survival of 98%, efficiency of feed utilization of 64.83%, and a decrease in intestinal pH which helped the process of protein absorption in the fish body. In conclution, the addition of potassium diformate has good effect on growth and survival rates of common carp.

Abstract Lobster is among freshwater crustaceans which is potentially cultivated in aquaculture system. This present study was conducted to determine the growth and survival rate of freshwater lobster Cherax quadricarinatus fed different forage feed. The experimental methode used a completely randomized design consisted of 4 treatments in triplicate: commercial diet (PL), commercial diet and carrots (PW), commercial diet and potatoes (PK) and commercial diet and sweet potatoes (PU). The experimental lobsters were 5-7 cm in size and 6-8 g in weight. Results indicated that forage feeding can affect the total weight and length, weight gain, specific growth rate and survival rate of lobster. Data showed the best weight gain and specific growth rate were found in PW (34.37±0.30%) and (1.05±0.03%), respectively. The lowest survival rate was seen in PU at 86.67%. However, the best feed conversion ratio gained by PL at 1.74±0.09. This study suggested that the combination of commercial diet with carrots provided the best growth performances in freshwater lobster Cherax quadricarinatus.

Abstract The aim of the study was to determine the influence of the size and form of Artemia sp. feed on the rearing indices of Atlantic sturgeon larvae. In the experiment, the nauplius sizes used were 480 µm (group AD), 430 µm (group AM), and 430 µm frozen nauplii (group AI). After three weeks of rearing, the sturgeon from group AD had the highest mean body weight of 0.131 g that was statistically significantly different from groups AM (0.071 g) and AI (0.033 g). The longest total length was noted in group AD (2.8 cm) and was statistically different from the others (P ≤ 0.05). Specific growth rate in groups AD and AM was 14.7 and 11.8% d−1, respectively, and these values differed statistically from those in group AI at 7.8% d−1. The highest survival rate was recorded in group AD at 60.6%, while the lowest was noted in group AI at 15.6%, and the differences between these two groups were statistically significant. The results of the experiment indicated that a feed of live 480 µm Artemia sp. nauplius significantly accelerated the growth rates and increased the survival rates of Atlantic sturgeon larvae.

Semah mahseer (Tor douronensis) is a species from the genus Tor and highly valued in local and national markets. Nevertheless, the fish production from net cage is currently limited. In order to increase its productivity, research on the growth of semah mahseer fingerlings reared in floating net cage systems needs to be carried out as this species is predominantly cultured in the clean water ponds. This study was conducted to obtain information on the growth performance of the first generation of semah mahseer fingerlings reared with different stocking densities in a floating net cage system. The experiment was carried out in the floating net cage located at Cirata Reservoir, Cianjur, West Java, for five months. Fingerlings (total length: 7-8 cm; body weight: 5-6 g) were reared in the floating net cage (stocking density of 50, 75, and 100 ind./m3 with three replications). The fish were fed with a commercial diet (protein content of 40%) given at 6% of biomass twice a day. The parameters observed included weight gain, survival rate, specific growth rate (SGR), and biomass. The results showed that the stocking density of 50 ind./m3 had the best performance in terms of final weight of 15.89 ± 1.43 g, weight gain of 10.48 ± 1.41 g, survival rate of 94.67 ± 4.6%, and specific growth rate of 0.75 ± 0.04%. Based to the results of this study, the stocking density of 50 ind./m3 is the best condition for rearing semah mahseer fingerlings in floating net cages. The findings of this research can be used as the basic information for future aquaculture development of semah mahseer in net cages.
