Biofloc technology (BFT) is an approach in aquaculture that has gained much interest and is currently widely being studied and applied. In this study, silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) post-larvae were reared in a BFT system, at different stocking densities (10, 20, 30 and 40 post-larvae/L), for 21 days. After two weeks, fish larvae subjected to the higher stoking density showed greater weight gain. At the end of the trial (21 days), no relevant differences between treatments were observed related to growth parameters. However, post-larvae reared at the stocking density of 20 post-larvae/L presented a higher survival rate.

Proper stocking density on larval rearing of barred loach (Nemacheilus fasciatus Valenciennes, 1846) is very important in terms of obtaining the best growth and survival rate. This study was aimed to observe the growth and survival rate of barred loach subjected to different larval stocking density. Fish larvae were obtained by artificial spawning from in aquarium. Larvae were stocked on aquariums (50 × 40 × 30 cm) with three stocking density treatments (5, 10, and 15 individuals/L) and three replications. The experimental fish larvae were fed by Artemia and commercial feed (crude protein content: 30%) and feeding frequency twice per day (ad libitum). The length and weight were reassured every 10 days during 70 days of rearing period. Temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen were measured at each treatment. Data obtained from measurements were analysed to assess the length gain, weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), biomass gain, and survival rate. The results showed length gain of 3.35 ± 0.01, 2.94 ± 0.10, and 2.82 ± 0.15 cm and weight gain of 0.573 ± 0.023, 0.436 ± 0.018, and 0.417 ± 0.043 g in larval stocking density of 5, 10 and 15 individuals/L, respectively. Specific growth rates and biomass growth were of 6.22 ± 0.41, 5.93 ± 0.21, and 5.68 ± 0.41 %/day and 94.04 ± 5.39, 146.80 ± 3.81, and 167.24 ± 17.48 g in larval stocking density of 5, 10 and 15 individuals/L, respectively. Meanwhile, the survival rates obtained in this study were 89.13 ± 7.25, 93.13 ± 5.13, and 76.50 ± 3.54 % in larval stocking density of 5, 10 and 15 individuals/L, respectively. Increased stocking density has a negative impact on the growth and survival rate of barred loach.

The efficacy and suitability of dietary whole wheat flour supplementation was evaluated on the growth performance and survival of rohu (Labeo rohita). The study was conducted in 12 experimental aquaria at the Wet Laboratory, Department of Aquaculture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. A total of 180 fingerlings of mean initial weight of 1.744±00 g were stocked at the same stocking density (268 fingerlings/m3). Four different treatments (T1, T2, T3 and T4) each with three replications were performed having different level of whole wheat flour such as 0% whole wheat flour (T1), 5% whole wheat flour (T2), 10% whole wheat flour (T3) and 15% whole wheat flour (T4). Feeds were supplied at 5% body weight twice daily in the morning at 9.00 am and in the afternoon at 5.00 pm throughout the study period. The rations were adjusted every week when new weights of the fish for various experimental aquariums were determined. At the end of the 63 days study period, the growth performance parameters such as mean final weight (g), weight gain (g), percent weight gain (%), specific growth rate (%/day) and the best feed utilization in terms of food conversion ratio were found highest at treatment 4 where fishes were fed with inclusion of 15% whole wheat flour and lowest was found at treatment 1 (fed with inclusion of 0% whole wheat flour). Water quality parameters were within the acceptable range and survival rate was found 100% in all treatment. Therefore, it can be concluded that treatment 4 (highest growth performance and survival rate of L. rohita with supplementation of 15% whole wheat flour containing diet) can be chosen by fish farmers for commercial culture of this species. This study examined the effect of stocking density on growth and survival of tilapia cultured in biofloc technology system. Three different stocking densities cultured in biofloc technology were 6 fish/m3, 8 fish/m3 and 10 fish/m3 for 86 days in triplicate for each treatment. The stocking density of the control lot was 3 fish/m3 cultured without biofloc technology. Initial stocking weight ranged from 2–3 g/fish. The water quality parameters were monitored and regulated in the suitable ranges for biofloc technology and for the growth and development of tilapia. The results showed that specific growth rate of fish cultured at a density of 6 fish/m3 was higher than that in the treatments of 8 fish/m3 and 10 fish/m3 with the average values of 5.72%; 5.62% and 5.43%, respectively, and the specific growth rate of fish in the control treatment was 5.71%. Daily growth rate of fish cultured at a density of 6 fish/m3 was higher than that cultured at densities of 8 fish/m3 and 10 fish/m3 with average values of 3.19 g/day, 2.98 g/day, and 2.55 g/day, respectively; and the daily growth rate of the control treatment was 3.27 g/day. Survival rate of tilapia cultured at densities of 6 fish/m3 and 8 fish/m3 was 100%, whereas survival rate of tilapia cultured at a density of 10 fish/m3 was 95.75%, and it was 88.9% for the control lot. The research results provide a scientific basis to propose tilapia culture technique in biofloc technology in brackish water, with the density of 6–8 fish/m3.

pH is one of the important water quality parameters in aquaculture. This study aimed to observe the growth performance and survival rate of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) Rajadanu strain reared in culture media with different pH levels. Fish (length: 3.60 ± 0.18 cm; weight: 1.68 ± 0.18 g) were stocked in nine aquariums (40 cm x 40 cm x 30 cm) for 10 days with a stocking density of 25 fish per aquarium. The treatments used were (A) pH 4-5, (B) pH 5-6, and (C) pH 6-7, with three replications. A commercial feed containing 28% protein was given daily and as much as 3% of the total biomass. The observed data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA), followed by Duncan test. The results showed that the pH treatments did not affect the growth (length and weight) and survival rate of common carp Rajadanu strain (P>0.05). The best growth was achieved by the fish group reared in water with a pH range of 6-7 (length = 0.38 cm; weight = 0.17 g). The highest survival was attained by the fish group reared in water with a pH range of 5-6 (90.66%).
