A new series of metal complexes with 1-(2-methylphenyl)-4,4,6-trimethyl pyrimidine-2-thione (2-HL1) and 1-(4-methylphenyl)-4,4,6-trimethyl pyrimidine-2-thione (4-HL2) ligands, [M(mppt)2(H2O)n] (M(II) = Cu, Mn, Co; n = 2 and M(II) = Ni, Zn; n = 0) have been synthesized using mechanochemical protocol. The complexes have been framed as [M(mppt)2(H2O)n] due to 1:2 (metal:ligand) nature of these metal complexs. Structures have been further confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, Magnetic susceptibility measurements, electronic, infrared, far infrared, proton NMR, Mass spectral moment and thermogravimetric analysis studies. The infrared spectral data suggested that ligand behaves as a bidentate, coordinating through – N (endocyclic) and – S (exocyclic) donor atoms. All the compounds have also been screened for antibacterial and DNA photocleavage potential. Ligands complexed with Mn and Ni metals have shown the effect of substitution on their biological potentials. It was found that substitution at 4th or para position makes the ligand and its metal complexes have better antibacterial and DNA photocleaving agents.

A new series of quinoline hydrazone derivatives and their metal complexes have been synthesized and their biological properties have been evaluated againstMycobacterium tuberculosis(H37 RV strain). Most of the newly synthesized compounds displayed 100% inhibitory activity at a concentration of 6.25–25 μg/mL, againstMycobacterium tuberculosis. Fluorescence properties of all the synthesized compounds have been studied.

The complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with isatinylsemicarbazone (IstscabH) and isatinylthiosemicarbazone (IsttscabH) of composition ML2·2H2O [M = Co(II) or Ni(II) and LH = IstscabH or IsttscabH] and ML2 [M = Zn(II) or Cd(II) and LH = IstscabH or IsttscabH] have been synthesized and their antibacterial activity has been investigated. Their inclusion complexes with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) having composition [ML2(β-CD)·2H2O] or M(C60H88N8O39S2)], [M = Co(II) or Ni(II) and LH = IstscabH or IsttscabH] and [ML2(β-CD) or M(C60H84N6O-37S2)], [M = Zn(II) or Cd(II) and LH = IstscabH or IsttscabH] have also been isolated in solid states. All the synthesized metal complexes have been characterized by analytical data, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, electronic and infrared spectral studies. The tetrahedral geometry for Zn(II) and Cd(II) and octahederal geometry for Co(II) and Ni(II) have been assigned on the basis of magnetic susceptibility, UV electronic transitions and IR spectral bands assignments. The structures are retained in inclusion products. A biological activity of Schiff bases, their metal complexes and inclusion products for bacteria Escherichia. coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus have been screened and activity explained.

A series of transition metal complexes of the type [MLX2], where M = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), X = Cl–/CH3COO– and L = Schiff base derived from 4-nitrobenzene-1,2-diamine and 5-chloroisatin have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, IR, UV-visible, magnetic moments measurement, 1H & 13C NMR and mass spectral studies. On the basis of physico-chemical studies and spectral evaluation, an octahedral geometry have been proposed for all metal(II) complexes. The antimicrobial activity of ligand and its metal complexes have been additionally screened against bacteria and fungi. Metal(II) complexes show good activity as compared to ligand towards studied microorganisms and also metal complexes checked for their catalytic properties for benzoylation of phenol.

A new series of chalcones (3a-j) were synthesized by condensation of simple aldehydes with substituted acetophenones in presence of alkali. The resulted chalcones upon cyclization in presence of glacial acetic acid with isoniazid (INH) will yields the title compounds (4a-j). The newly synthesized compounds were assigned on the basis of IR,1H NMR, and Mass spectral data. All the final compounds were evaluated for theirin vitroantimicrobial activity.

Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes of general composition ML2X2(M = Co(II), Ni(II); X = Cl−,NO3 −) were synthesized by the condensation of metal salts with semicarbazone/thiosemicarbazone derived from 2-acetyl coumarone. The ligands and metal complexes were characterized by NMR, elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, and atomic absorption spectral studies. On the basis of electronic, molar conductance and infrared spectral studies, the complexes were found to have square planar geometry. The Schiff bases and their metal complexes were tested for their antibacterial and antioxidant activities.

2-([1,2,4]Triazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-4-ylthio)acetic acid hydrazide (10) was used as a precursor for the syntheses of novel quinoxaline derivatives with potential anticonvulsant properties. The newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by IR, 1H NMR, and mass spectral data followed by elemental analysis. The anticonvulsant evaluation was carried out for eleven of the synthesized compounds using metrazol induced convulsions model and phenobarbitone sodium as a standard. Among this set of tested compounds, two of them (14, and 15b) showed the best anticonvulsant activities.

New copper(II), manganese(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II) and palladium(II) complexes, [Cu(L)(X)(H2O)] [X= OAc- (1), Cl- (3), ClO4- (4)], [M(L)2(H2O)2] [M= Cu2+(2), Mn2+(5)], [M(L)(OAc)(H2O)] [M= Co2+(6), Pd2+(8)], [Ni(L)(OAc)] (7) were synthesized with 2-(5H-dibenzo [a,d][7] annulen-5-ylacetyl)-N-(4-chlorophenyl) hydrazinecarbothioamide (HL). All the metal complexes have been characterized by different physico-chemical techniques like molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements, electronic and infrared spectral studies, elemental and thermal analysis. The toxicity of newly synthesized compounds was evaluated using the Daphnia magna bioassay.
