This study examines the effect of financial information, macro environment, and subjective norms on investors behavior when making investment decisions in Indonesian capital market. It was conducted by a survey design and involved 190 individual investors in three big cities in Indonesia (Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung). By using Structural Equation Modeling with Warp-PLS 3.0, the results showed that macro factors had a significantly positive effect on the technical information, the financial information and the macro factors had a significantly positive effect on the investor intentions, and the intentions of investors and the financial information had a significantly positive impact on investment decisions. It was also found that the financial information held a great contribution to build investor intentions and investment decisions. Thus, Indonesian individual investors were rational and sophisticated investors. They were not influenced by the actions of other investors, analyst opinions, and media. The implication of this research was how to provide information comprehensively to investors, which was very important to influence their decisions.

AbstractStress is concomitant with students’ life and can have a significant impact on their lives, and even how they go about their academic work. Globally, in every five visits by patients to the doctor, three are stress-related problems. This study examined stress and its impact on the academic and social life among students of a university in Ghana. The descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed. Using the stratified and simple random (random numbers) sampling methods, 500 regular undergraduate students were engaged in the study. A questionnaire made up of Perceived Stress Scale and Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale was used to gather data for the study. Frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviation, and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), with AMOS were used for the analyses. It was found that majority of the students were moderately stressed. Paramount among the stressors were academic stressors, followed by institutional stressors, and external stressors. Stress had a significant positive impact on the academic and social life of students. It was concluded that undergraduate students, in one way or the other, go through some kind of stress during the course of their study. It was recommended that the university, through its Students’ Affairs, and Counselling Sections, continue to empower students on how to manage and deal with stress in order to enhance their academic life.

Purpose The paper takes a behavioral approach by making use of the prospect theory to unveil the impact of salience on short-term and long-term investment decisions. This paper aims to investigate the group differences for two types of investors’ groups, i.e. individual investors and professional investors. Design/methodology/approach The study uses partial least square-based structural equation modeling technique, measurement invariance test and multigroup analysis test on a unique data set of 277 active equity traders which included professional money managers and individual investors. Findings Results showed that salience has a significant positive impact on both short-term and long-term investment decisions. The impact was almost 1.5 times higher for long-term investment decision as compared to short-term decision. Furthermore, multigroup analysis revealed that the two groups (individual investors and professional investors) were statistically significantly different from each other. Research limitations/implications The study has implications for financial regulators, money managers and individual investors as it was found that individual investors suffer more with salience heuristic and may end up with sub-optimal portfolios due to inefficient diversification. Thus, investors should be cautious in fully relying on salience and avoid such bias to improve investment returns. Practical implications The study concludes with a discussion of policy and regulatory implications on how to minimize salience bias to achieve optimum and diversified portfolios. Originality/value The study has significantly contributed to the growing body of applied behavioral research in the discipline of finance.

Individual investor’s behavior is extensively influenced by various biases that highlighted in the growing discipline of behavior finance. Therefore, this study is also one of another effort to assess the impact of behavioral biases in investment decision-making in National Stock Exchange. A questionnaire is designed and through survey responses collected from 243 investors. The present research has applied inferential statistics and descriptive statistics. In the existing study, four behavioral biases have been reviewed namely, overconfidence, anchoring, disposition effect and herding behavior. The results show that overconfidence and herding bias have significant positive impact on investment decision. Overall results conclude that individual investors have limited knowledge and more prone towards making psychological errors. The findings of the study also indicate the existence of these four behavioral biases on individual investment decisions. This study will be helpful to financial intermediaries to advice their clients. Further, study can be elaborated to study other behavioral biases on investment decisions.

Abstract-The purpose of this study is 1) to find out and analyze the effect of investment decisions on firm value, 2) to find out and analyze the effect of leverage on firm value, 3) to find out and analyze the effect of profitability on firm value; 4) to find out and analyze the effect of company size on company value. The population in this study are cosmetics and household use manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2011-2018. Sampling was done purposively with predetermined criteria. The data analysis of this study uses the Partial Least Square (PLS) approach. PLS is a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) equation model based on components or variants. Based on the hypothesis test, the first hypothesis is obtained; which states that investment decision variables have a significant positive effect on firm value is acceptable. Second hypothesis test results; which states that leverage has a significant positive effect on firm value is acceptable. Third hypothesis test results; which states profitability has a significant positive effect on firm value is acceptable. The fourth hypothesis test results; which states that company size has a significant positive effect on the value of the company can not be accepted (rejected). The result of the model accuracy test by looking at R Square Adjusted which contributed the model in explaining the structural relationship of the studied variables was 0.604 (or 60.40%). Keywords: Investment Decisions; Leverage; Profitability; Firm Size and Firm Value. Investors do not always think rationally but sometimes think irrational. Decision-making based on irrational thinking is influenced by a psychological bias which often leads to wrong decisions. This study aims to find empirical evidence of the influence of representativeness, availability, anchoring, risk perception, and herding on the investment decisions of sharia investors who open stock accounts at Phintraco Sekuritas Semarang. The population in this study were investors who have opened Islamic stock accounts at Phintraco Sekuritas Semarang. The sample is respondents who have opened Islamic stock accounts at Phintraco Sekuritas Semarang. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling and data collection techniques used a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results showed that representativeness, anchoring, risk perception, and herding have a significant positive effect on the investment decisions of Islamic investors. Meanwhile, the availability variable does not affect investment decisions in Islamic investors.

Investment decisions could be affected by behavioral biases associated with personal characteristics. This study empirically investigates the effect of personal characteristics on investors’ investment decision through risk tolerance. Furthermore, investment experience moderates the nexus between personal characteristics and risk tolerance. The scale consisting of 24 items was used related to selected constructs and variables. Data was collected form 175 individual investors of Pakistan Stock Exchange. PLS-SEM was used to make statistical analysis. The findings indicate that extraversion has substantial positive impact on investment decisions. Moreover, risk tolerance partially mediates the relationship between extroversion and investment decisions. The relationship between introversion and investment decisions is negative and risk tolerance partially mediates the aforesaid relationship. Furthermore, it is statistically proved that investment experience substantially moderates the association between extraversion and risk tolerance. However, investment experience does not play any conditional role in the association between introversion and risk tolerance. This study can be helpful for financial advisors to provide best consultancy to their clients (investors), while considering their personal characteristics.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the ethical investment willingness decision-making process to understand how investors evaluate corporate social responsibility (CSR) actions. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected through a survey of 298 individual investors and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings Results reveal that perfectionist decision-making style is positively related to perceived moral intensity, substitutability of financial returns, and ethical investment willingness. In addition, perceived moral intensity and substitutability of financial returns are positively related to ethical investment willingness. Finally, perceived moral intensity is positively related to substitutability of financial returns, and a two-factor causal mediation model is supported. Research limitations/implications The limitation of this study was that the pre-tests and sampling methods required all participants to have investing experience; however, procurement of trading information for each investor was impossible; thus, actual investment behaviors were undetermined. This study shed light on the mediating roles of perceived moral intensity and the substitutability of financial returns. Future studies can further investigate the factors influencing perceived moral intensity and the substitutability of financial returns. Practical implications Future ethical investment education can focus on cultivate the ability to distinguish ethical investments and change ethical investment willingness into actual investment behavior. Originality/value Understanding the relationship between these variables can help understand why ethical investment willingness varies among investors and how the traditional financial theory investment decision model should be revised as, internationally, more people have begun to observe CSR and sustainable development.
