The article analyses the evolution of the uses of Dewey’s name and ideas by the educational establishment of the Franco dictatorship (1939–1975). Although classics, during that period Dewey’s works no longer fashionable. Indeed, there were radical differences between Dewey’s pedagogical ideas and the Spanish school of educational theory, which was based upon ideas derived from natural law. This prevented the real understanding and acceptance of his way of thinking, and he was even used to bolster arguments contrary to his own. This process was reinforced by the academic practices adopted for reading and reproducing knowledge, in which his words were de-contextualized, simplified and adapted from one manual to the next, until Dewey’s message had been entirely overturned. Although his thought was attacked for his impiety, and considered foreign to the Spanish reality, the Catholic «revolution» and the need for new educational practices designed to indoctrinate pupils into the principles of the regime promoted the rehabilitation of activism for the social sciences and school catechesis. Dewey was also used to further functional differentiation within academia, authorizing the creation of Social Pedagogy as a research field. Nevertheless, the essentialist anthropology and teleological conception of education in Spanish schooling led it to reject Dewey’s ideas of experience and democracy.

As a key sub-field of social dynamics and sociophysics, opinion dynamics utilizes mathematical and physical models and the agent-based computational modeling tools, to investigate the spreading of opinions in a collection of human beings. This research field stems from various disciplines in social sciences, especially the social influence models developed in social psychology and sociology. A multidisciplinary review is given in this paper, attempting to keep track of the historical development of the field and to shed light on its future directions. In the review, the authors discuss the disciplinary origins of opinion dynamics, showing that the combination of the social processes, which are conventionally studied in social sciences, and the analytical and computational tools, which are developed in mathematics, physics and complex system studies, gives birth to the interdisciplinary field of opinion dynamics. The current state of the art of opinion dynamics is then overviewed, with the research progresses on the typical models like the voter model, the Sznajd model, the culture dissemination model, and the bounded confidence model being highlighted. Correspondingly, the future directions of this academic field are envisioned, with an advocation for closer synthesis of the related disciplines.

The first technological revolution, in the fourth millennium BC, was followed by immense social progress. The second revolution, which is now taking place, could lead to an even greater development in the human sciences, by setting men free from their daily struggle for existence while simultaneously exacting high social standards. Natural law - the “marriage between the ways of heaven and the ways of earth” of the Chinese - represents a route to such progress. In natural science and technology, natural law demands that conclusions be based on observation rather than speculation. The social sciences would do well to follow this example.

Montesquieu is not often thought of as a significant natural law thinker. The article on natural law in theInternational Encyclopedia of the Social Sciencesdiscusses many theorists of the natural law, but Montesquieu is not among them. A valuable older survey of natural law theorizing by legal philosopher A. P. d'Entrèves cites the Frenchman but once, as a very minor character in a story with far more significant actors—Thomas Aquinas, Hugo Grotius, even Georg Hegel. A yet more comprehensive survey of the topic,Natural Law and Human Dignity, by French philosopher and social theorist Ernst Bloch, does not mention Montesquieu at all.

The monograph is devoted to the identification of the main provisions and features of the philosophy of law R. Stammler, definition of communication proposed by R. Stammler legal doctrine with the preceding and contemporary legal doctrines and its significance for the subsequent development of the theory and philosophy of law. R. Stammler – founder and outstanding representative neokantianism philosophy of law and science flow "revived" natural law, speaking with their own conception of the methodology of the social Sciences and played a key role in the development of natural law doctrine, introducing into science the concept of "proper law" (natural law with changing content) and suggesting the formula of the legal ideal "society of freely wanting people". In addition, Mr. stammler one of the first made deeply researched academic critique of Marxism and anarchism. His teaching on the law, jurisprudence and legal ideal of R. stammler had a significant impact on the development of Russian philosophy of law.

Text mining has developed rapidly in recent years. In this article we compare classification methods that are suitable for solving problems of predicting item nonresponse. The author builds reasoning about how the analysis of textual data can be implemented in a wider research field based on this material. The author considers a number of metrics adapted for textual analysis in the social sciences: accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and gives examples that can help a sociologist figure out which of them is worth paying attention depending on the task at hand (classify text data with equal accuracy, or more fully describe one of the classes of interest). The article proposes an analysis of results obtained by analyzing texts based on the materials of the European Social Survey (ESS).

Su incorporación al lenguaje pedagógico, por vía de las corrientes sistémicas y cibernéticas, merece un estudio crítico, en el que se describan los niveles a los que opera, su relación con otros conceptos y procesos, y su posición central en las modernas teorías de la educación; con especial hincapié en las aportaciones del Dr. Sanvisens.SUMMARY: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the concept feedback. From Watt «Governor» (1790) and the initial theoretical work developed by J. Maxwell (1868), including the cybernetics concepts developed in the fifties, in this paper we revise the conceptual influences and the methodological and thecnological applications in different disciplines, with special attention to the Social Sciences field. The feedback concept is related with other concepts such as: The Systems Dynamic's, the Biofeedback thecnics, the sociological systemic models, the family therapy... Thorough discussion is deserved to the application of this concept in the Educational Theory field. Specifically we analyze the contributions made by the humanistic cybernetic proposed by A. Sanvisens.

In the teaching of law, there is often "mistaken", that puts legal positivism (jurisprudence)  is identical with the philosophy of positivism. Legal positivism be identified as an instance of positivism philosophy intact. The study of legal positivism, in fact very closely related to the philosophy and teachings of the law from time to time. The effects of natural law in the scholastic era, then the era of rationalism and the influence of positivism in the philosophy of natural science is very attached to the legal positivism until today. Therefore not only the philosophy of positivism affecting the development of legal positivism. Based on that then the legal positivism in fact has a characteristic which is different from the social sciences. If the social sciences were developed based on the philosophy of positivism, the doctrinal teaching of the law is not entirely been developed based on the philosophy of positivism. This article offers an overview of open science and open-science practices and their applications to translation and interpreting studies (TIS). Publications on open science in different disciplines were reviewed in order to define open science, identify academic publishing practices emerging from the core features of open science, and discuss the limitations of such practices in the humanities and the social sciences. The compiled information was then contextualised within TIS academic publishing practices based on bibliographic and bibliometric data. The results helped to identify what open-science practices have been adopted in TIS, what problems emerge from applying some of these practices, and in what ways such practices could be fostered in our discipline. This article aims to foster a debate on the future of TIS publishing and the role that open science will play in the discipline in the upcoming years.

This article is about the growth and establishment of the interdisciplinary research field ”Happiness Studies”. This article focuses on how research on happiness has become a quickly growing and successful field within western societies and what it says about both the social sciences and contemporary social order. The concept of co-production, as defined by Sheila Jasanoff, is used to show how science and society interact and influence each other. Hence, we show how happiness has become a significant topic for empirical studies and the way interdisciplinary research is intertwined with what is perceived as both challenging and worth striving for in society and culture.

In this paper, I would like to take up one proposal that I touch on as part of the longer paper delivered at the SPT conference on Critical Theory and the Concept of Social Pathology. The proposal is an analytic grid for characterising social pathologies, particularly in thelight of the conceptualisations of this idea specified within the Frankfurt School CriticalTheory tradition.Let me first summarise briefly the longer paper. I present some general features of the idea of social pathology (see below), and suggest that this idea can set FrankfurtSchool Critical Theory apart from mainstream liberal approaches – notably, in virtue of the specifically ethical register it involves (rather than a justice-based one dominant incontemporary liberalism) and the interdisciplinary approach it calls for (which marks a contrast to the relatively stark division between normative theorising and the social sciences characteristic of much of political philosophy today). I criticise the way Habermas and Honneth transform the early Frankfurt School conceptualisations of this idea by tying itto their respective models of functional differentiation of society.
