Various types of educational devices that are used as a support for the creation of a good education are certainly important. One of them is using an effective method to provide a concept to students optimally. This study aims to analyze how high and important the influence of the experimental method on science subjects at the junior high school. The method used is a qualitative research method with a mini survey method on 47 samples consisting of junior high school students, high school students, college students, and alumni students as well as a literature study method (library study) which is carried out by screening electronic books (e-books) and e- journals. The results showed that 94% of experimental research methods were effectively used and 6% were not effectively used in the science learning process. The effectiveness of this method is that students can prove that an accepted concept is in accordance with the given theory and students can hone their psychomotor abilities. The weakness of this method is that it can be seen from the inadequate infrastructure, the ability of teachers, controlling students, and the selection of practicum materials.

Conceptions of learning have been known as having influence on students’ learning outcomes, the one of which is science learning as to be a scientifically literate person. Even, the effects of students’ conceptions in learning have been known, but the contributing factors are still vague. This research aims to explore Indonesian high-school students’ conceptions of learning science (COLS), to find out if gender and students’ favorite science subject cause differences in their COLS, and to validate the COLS instrument by using Rasch analyses. Thirty-one items measuring six COLS were administered to 609 Indonesian high-school students. Rasch analyses, an independent sample t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and cluster analyses featuring chi-square tests of interdependence were used to answer the research questions. Based on the analyses, it was found that the COLS instrument was best fitted as six-dimensional. Gender difference was emerged in memorizing, and differences based on students’ favorite science subject were also found in memorizing and calculating and practicing. Finally, the results of cluster analyses showed that Indonesian students were divided into three different classes based on their COLS, and that the clusters were significantly related to the school locations. Keywords: conceptions of learning science, gender, Indonesia, science learning, secondary level.

This study is an adaptation of Science Motivation Scale, developed by Glynn and Koballa, into Turkish and reports validity and reliability of the adapted scale. The sample consisted of 1354 high school students from Ankara and Edirne. The data collected from different types of high schools was analyzed and moderately similar factor structures were found as in the original scale. Based on the principal component analysis, four dimensions which were self-efficacy in learning science, anxiety about science assessment, extrinsically motivated science learning, and intrinsically motivated science learning were determined. These four dimensioned model was analyzed via confirmatory factor analysis and moderate fit was determined. In addition, validity analysis supports the validity of scores on the four-factor model. The Cronbach alpha reliability was found to be 0.913. This scale aims to determine high school students' motivation to learn chemistry. The distinction of this scale is that determining student motivation on learning chemistry rather than asking for general questions in science. The findings of the study are meant to contribute to the chemistry education field by providing an adapted scale.

This study aims to produce biotechnopreneurship-based science learning materials that are valid, practical, and effectiveto facilitate junior high school students’ life skills. This research is development research using a 4D development model that produces Biotechnopreneurship-based science learning materials equipped with the syllabus, lesson plan, student worksheets, life skills tests. Learning materials were tested on 35 junior high school students with the one-group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis is descriptive qualitative with the results: (a) validation of learning materials with valid categories (score 3-4); (b) readability of learning materials with good categories (c) implementation of learning in good categories (score 3.7); (d) student responses were positive; (e) students’life skills generally increase (N-gain 0.71 with high category). The indicator of Life Skills that experiences the most significant increase between pre test and post test is the aspect of making a decision. Indicators of information gathering are indicators that have a low increase after learning. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the biotechnopreneurship-based science learning materials are valid, practical, and effective to facilitate junior high school students’ life skills.
