This study investigated the relationship between working capital management and profitability of 94 listed Bumiputera-controlled companies in Malaysia for 2006 until 2012. The underlying theory is the trade-off theory of working capital and cash conversion cycle, and its components are used as measures for working capital management. Findings of the panel data regression reveal that inventory conversion period and receivable collection period are significantly negatively correlated to profitability. This suggests that the shorter the period, the higher the profitability of Bumiputera-controlled companies tends to be. However, the cash conversion cycle is significantly and positively correlated to profitability, suggesting that the longer the cash conversion period, the higher the profitability. The payable collection period is not significantly correlated to profitability. The findings of this study assert that in general, Bumiputera-controlled companies are relatively less efficient in its working capital management, as far as the comparison to previous related studies is concerned.

AbstractThis study aims to discover the influents of Mudharabah and Musyarakah income towards BRI Syariah profitability. The researcher applied the quantitative method using two variables. They are mudharabah and musyarakah (x) and profitability (y). The research samples are quarterly financial report published by BRI Syariah during 2010-2015 periods. Research data are initially exposed to a classical assumption test in order to check whether those data are compatible for hypothesis test. The classical assumption test includes normality, multicollinearity, autocorrelations and heteroscedasticity test. Based on the hypothesis test, the dependent variable which can be explained by the independent variables is 29,9 % while the rest 71,1 % are explained by other variables. The simultant test (F) shows that variable x is influenced by variable y. it is proven by a p-value that is smaller than the level of significant (0,027 < 0,05). On the other hand, musyarakah is not affected since the p-value is bigger than the level of significant (0,319 > 0.15).Keywords :Mudharabah, Musyarakah, Profitability

Purpose Decisions pertaining to working capital management have pivotal role for firms’ short-term financial decisions. The purpose of this paper is to examine impact of working capital on profitability for Indian corporate entities. Design/methodology/approach Both classical panel analysis and Bayesian techniques have been employed that provides opportunity not only to perform comparative analysis but also allows flexibility in prior distribution assumptions. Findings It is found that longer cash conversion period has detrimental influence on profitability. Financial soundness indicators are playing significant role in determining firm profitability. Larger firms seem to be more profitable and significant as per Bayesian approach. Bayesian approach has led to considerable gain in estimation fit. Practical implications Observing the highly skewed distribution of dependent variable, Multivariate Student t-distribution has been considered along with normal distribution to model stochastic term. Accordingly, Bayesian methodology is applied. Originality/value Analysis of working capital for firms has been performed in Indian context. Application of Bayesian methodology is performed on balanced panel spanning from 2003 to 2012. As per author’s knowledge, this is the first study which applies Bayesian approach employing panel data for the analysis of working capital management for Indian firms.
