The use of video within a database management system: the creation of an integrated information system for National Hockey League (NHL) teams

The development of applying database management applications is currently underway within Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications in the Sultanate of Oman.The establishment of a national database management system in Oman is considered as the backbone that is required within the Geographic Information System project in Oman. The principal of the GIS project in Oman was built upon unifying the used software packages over the sultanate which is ARC/INFO as GIS Package and ORACLE as database management software. These packages are used within the different participating Ministries in the GIS project in Oman.The participating ministries will handle information that are shared between them. The shared information among the different ministries is the attributed data which is defined as descriptive information extracted from geographic features that usually existed on the topographic maps and the ministries maps (utility maps). The map features can be classified into different layers according to the principles of ARC/INFO GIS Package. Accordingly, the main objectives of this research paper is to explain the technique proposed for establishing a national database management system that can handle and manage the shared information amongst the participating ministries in the project. The proposed database design will be made using the ORACLE database management system. Moreover, the paper will handle a proposed idea for linking the geographic map layers with the corresponding attributed database in order to create Geographic Information System applications. As a Conclusion, it is Proposed that all the government GIS departments in the Sultanate will share the same information within a unique national database management which can be considered one of the major benefits in applying database management in the field of Geographic Information Systems.


The chapter presents the geographic information systems. A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system that allows various sources to gather and organize, manage, analyze and combine, develop, and present geographically located information contributing in particular to the management from space. A geographic information system is also a database management system for entering, storing, retrieving, querying, analyzing, and displaying localized data. It is a set of data located in space, structured so that it can conveniently extract syntheses useful to the decision.

[Bahasa]: Pandemi Covid-19 bukan halangan untuk melakukan kegiatan wisata. Wisata di dalam kota merupakan pilihan yang tepat di masa pendemi seperti ini. Pemerintah Kota Jambi telah banyak membangun ruang terbuka hijau (RTH) dengan fasilitas rekreasi dan olahraga yang lengkap, namun RTH ini belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal oleh masyarakat. Hal ini disebabkan oleh kurangnya promosi yang menyebabkan masih banyak masyarakat belum mengetahui keberadaan dan fasilitas yang disediakan RTH. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PPM) ini bertujuan untuk membangun Sistem Informasi Geografis Ruang Terbuka Hijau berbasis web yang dilengkapi dengan virtual tour yang menampilkan simulasi panorama dari lokasi RTH. Pembangunan sistem ini menggunakan metode prototyping. Metode ini sangat cocok digunakan untuk sistem skala kecil dan bersifat customize yang diciptakan berdasarkan permintaan dan kebutuhan tertentu. Pengembangan sistem menggunakan bahasa pemrograman PHP, framework Laravel, dan Database Management System (DBMS) MySQL. Beberapa fitur yang berhasil dikembangkan antara lain pencarian taman, pencarian event, virtual tour, dan partisipasi masyarakat. Hasil dari kegiatan PPM ini adalah pihak Dinas Lingkungan Hidup (DLH) dapat dengan mudah menyebarkan informasi-informasi terkait RTH dan memudahkan pengunjung dalam mencari lokasi RTH dan petunjuk arah yang terintegrasi dengan google maps. Pengujian sistem dilakukan menggunakan metode black box. Hasil pengujian menunjukan bahwa sistem informasi yang dibangun telah berhasil berjalan sesuai fungsinya. Kata Kunci: Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH), sistem informasi geografis, virtual tour [English]: Covid-19 pandemic is not a barrier to travel. Travelling in the city is a right choice during this time of pandemic. Jambi local government has provided manynew green open spaces with complete recreational and sports facilities. Unfortunately, the use of the public facilities is still not optimal due to lack of promotion. This community service program aims to develop a web-based geographical information system equipped with a virtual tour that displays a panoramic simulation of the green open space locations. The development of this system used a prototyping method. This method is very suitable for small-scale and customized systems based on certain requests and needs. The system development utilized PHP programming language, Laravel framework, and MySQL Database Management System (DBMS). Some of the features that have been successfully developed including park search, event search, virtual tours, and community participation. The result of this program is that local environment agency can easily disseminate information related to green open spaces and facilitate visitors in finding locations and directions integrated with google maps. A test of the system was carried out using the black box method. The results show that the developed information system has run successfully and properly. Database reverse engineering consists of recovering the abstract descriptions of files and databases of legacy information systems. A legacy information system can be defined as a “data-intensive application, such as [a] business system based on hundreds or thousands of data files (or tables), that significantly resists modifications and changes” (Brodie & Stonebraker, 1995). The objective of database reverse engineering is to recover the logical and conceptual descriptions, or schemas, of the permanent data of a legacy information system, that is, its database, be it implemented as a set of files or through an actual database management system.

In making the information system of diploma companion certificate (SKPI) BAAK Campus X there was a pile up of files to overcome these problems, so a certificate of companion certificate information system (SKPI) was made on Campus X based on website.. The System Development Method used in this thesis is the Prototype Method while the tool used in the development of the thesis system is Flowchart, FOD, CD, DFD, Relationship Tables and table structure as well as Making a system using the PHP Programming language and MySQL database management system Beta test results show that 67% of respondents said that this system fulfills 9 criteria for a good website. 100% of respondents (BAAK administrators) said that this system helped BAAK work. (FZ).


In this chapter, the author focuses on how a brief can be stored and processed with a database management system. This is an important step in brief computerization that precedes designing and connection to CAD or BIM programs. The chapter starts with a general explanation of what a database is and then consider a simple, single-table database of activities specified in a brief. This table then forms the core module of a multitable database that can accommodate more aspects, from users and security levels to fixtures and facilities. One sees how the design of such databases can help organize brief information in a structured and transparent manner and how queries of various types facilitate presentation of the content of the brief as well as analyses of completeness, consistency, and coherence.

In this recent technological world, it is necessary that we get accustomed to all types of advanced technological techniques. In the process, we are becoming more aware about database and information system. But what is database system information? The Database Management System which works through the storing of data can be used any time. The importance of database and information Systems in modern business is inevitable. In this chapter, we define Information Systems by its categories of Information System, type and the usefulness for efficient Information System. Then, we will proceed to explaining the management of information systems by taking a short look at its history and list some of its domains of application. After that, we define the relation between Information Systems and database. Finally, we will explore the problem of storage and some issues related to information systems and databases.
