Abstract In this work is described a means of improving the chemical stability of Cu2O@SiO2, Cu2O@SnO2 and Cu2O@TiO2 materials. The SiO2, SnO2 and TiO2 coated samples were stable from pH 3 to pH 10 for up to seven days. To determine the stability of the coated nanoparticles, and their colloidal solutions under acidic and basic conditions, colloidal nanoparticle solutions with various pH values were prepared and monitored over time. Details of the effect of variations in pH on the phase stability of core-shell type Cu2O were characterized using transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Zirconia-graphene composite (ZrO2-G) has been successfully synthesized via decomposition of ZrOCl2•6H2O in a water-isopropanol system with dispersed graphene oxide (GO) utilizing Na2S as a precursor could enable the occurrence of the deposition of Zr4+ and the deoxygenation of GO at the same time. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to characterize the samples. It was found that graphene were fully coated with ZrO2, and the ZrO2 existing in tetragonal phase, which resulted in the formation of two-dimensional composite.

BiFeO3 polyhedrons had been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared products were characterized by power X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The possible mechanisms for the formation of BiFeO3 polyhedrons were discussed. Though comparison experiments, it was found that the kind of precursor played a key role on the morphology control of BiFeO3 crystals.

Synthesis of a rutile-type lead-substituted tin oxide with (110) face was investigated. The characterization was performed by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area measurements. The homogeneous rutile-type lead-substituted tin oxide was obtained until 4.1 mol% of tin was substituted with lead. The surface of obtained oxide had a homogeneously lead-substituted (110) face.

Cu2FeSnS4semiconductor nanocrystals with zincblende structure have been successfully synthesized by a hot-injection approach. Cu+, Fe2+, and Sn4+cations have a random distribution in the zincblende unit cell, and the occupancy possibilities are 1/2, 1/4 and 1/4, respectively. Those nanocrystals were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy. The Cu2FeSnS4 nanocrystals have an average size of 7.5 nm and a band gap of 0.92 eV.

Co nanoparticles were synthesized via a solventless thermal decomposition of Co2+-oleate2. The crystalline structure is strongly affected by the thermal treatment of the Co nanoparticles. Further, the annealing also results in the decomposition of surfactant around Co particles. The size of nanoparticles was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The crystal structure of nanoparticles was characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD). The magnetic properties were characterized by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM).

Nano-calcium titanate-based coated aluminum oxide (ACCTO) was successfully prepared by the citrate acid sol-gel method and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Its application in speciation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) from water was studied. The conditions of adsorption and elution were investigated. The results show that nanometer calcium titanate could be immobilized on the aluminum oxide firmly, becoming a composite adsorbent. Two forms of chromium showed different adsorption capability at different pH values, Cr (III) selectively retained at pH 8-14, whereas Cr (VI) retained at pH≤2. So separation of the Cr(III) and Cr(VI) is possible. Retained species were eluted with 5mL of 1 mol•L-1 HCl and NaOH. The Cr(III) and Cr(VI) concentration was measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The adsorption agent has a promising prospect in removal or enriching and separation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in water.

Pentazole (HN5), an unstable molecular ring comprising five nitrogen atoms, has been of great interest to researchers for the better part of a century. We report the synthesis and characterization of the pentazolate anion stabilized in a (N5)6(H3O)3(NH4)4Cl salt. The anion was generated by direct cleavage of the C–N bond in a multisubstituted arylpentazole using m-chloroperbenzoic acid and ferrous bisglycinate. The structure was confirmed by single-crystal x-ray diffraction analysis, which highlighted stabilization of the cyclo-N5ˉ ring by chloride, ammonium, and hydronium. Thermal analysis indicated the stability of the salt below 117°C on the basis of thermogravimetry-measured onset decomposition temperature.

Nanoscale LiTaO3 powders with perovskite structure were synthesized using the solvothermal technique with glycol as solvent at 240°C for 12h. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD was used to elucidate room temperature structures using Rietveld refinement. The powders were pure single pervoskite phase with high crystallinity. FESEM and TEM were used to determine particle size and morphology. The average LiTaO3 grain size was estimated to be < 200nm, and TEM images indicated that LiTaO3 particles had a brick-like morphology. In addition, the effect of the temperature on the LiTaO3 power characterisitics was also detailed studied.

Hydroxylapatite(HAP) nano-whiskers are prepared by reaction-precipitation in the submerged circulative impinging stream reactor(SCISR), with (NH4)2HPO4 and Ca(NO3)2 as the reagents; and the products are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results TEM measured indicate that the product prepared under typical operation conditions is average-sized 15nm and 50-70nm long. Multiply repeated experiments illustrates that, because of the excellent performance of the reactor, the preparation process can be easily controlled to yield nano rod/whisker hydroxylapatite with very narrow size distribution.
