Abstract The paper aims to highlight the relevance of complexity theory application to organizational career management processes and systems. This perspective enables to reveal and analyse the employees’ career management challenges faced by organizations in the context of high complexity. The study shows that organizations strive for a flexible and adaptable workforce while employees seek to increase their employability and competitiveness in organizations and in the labour market. Consequently, the role of current organizations in the context of complexity in employees’ career management is to help them to sustain and grow their career potential thereby strengthening their own competitive advantage.

The available literature suggests that perceived organizational career management is seen as an antecedent of intention to leave and organizational identification is considered to be superior in predicting employees’ turnover intentions. Thus, this study aims at investigating the effect of perceived organizational career management on intention to leave and to determine the moderating role of organizational identification in this relation. The data was collected from 256 employees from the banking sector in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Hierarchical regression analysis was employed to the gathered data to test the hypotheses developed for the study. The results indicated that perceived organizational career management correlated negatively with intention to leave. It was also found out that organizational identification served as a moderator for the relationship between POCM and intention to leave. Thus, the results point out that the effect of employees’ perceived organizational career management on their intention to leave varies when they identify themselves with their organizations.

The purpose of this study was to determine the moderating role of supervisory support on the relationship between organizational career management and career satisfaction of employees of selected five private insurance companies in Ghana. A survey method was used to collate information from 167 employees who work in the studied organizations through a simple random sampling approach. The descriptive, correlation, multiple regression, and the moderated multiple regression analysis were used to test the research hypothesis and their results showed three important findings: firstly, organizational career management positively and significantly correlates and had an impact on career satisfaction. Secondly, supervisory support positively and significantly correlates and had an impact on career satisfaction. Lastly, the moderating role of supervisory support was established to be positive and significant on the relationship between organizational career management and career satisfaction. The outcome contributes to the Job Demand Resource (JD-R) theory such that organizational career management and supervisory support could be employed as organizational resources to produce career satisfaction. The study suggests that more attention and commitment should be given to organizational career management and supervisory support by the management of the private insurance companies to promote the career satisfaction of their employees.

The development and expansion of knowledge management as an important management philosophy has a significant impact on human resources management as well as on organization as a whole. In this context, knowledge management processes have been used as a strategic tool within human resources management.Therefore, functions of human resources management must adapt itself to this change. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of human resources management in the management of knowledge and to reveal the effects of knowledge management practices on the functions of human resources byexamining the relationship between human resources and knowledge management. In this context, a theoretical investigation was conducted. It has been determined that significant changes occurred on the functions of human resources management such as selection and recruitment, performance management, remuneration and reward, training and development within the framework of the knowledge management strategies.

Innovation is seen as a competitive advantage that many companies use to ensure the continuity and success of your business.NP 4457:2007 is the Portuguese norm that supports management, based on a model of innovation backed up by interfaces and interaction between technical/scientific knowledge, its specific mechanisms and the overall society.Our paper aims to analyse innovation activities and the involvement of human resources in Portuguese firms certified by NP4457 and associated to the implementation of Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) management systems. We have collected the data through IPAC’s database, using a survey administered to all firms.Our results suggest the existence of a Human Resources (HR) involvement policy, customers and suppliers. The involvement of stakeholders with innovation activities results of its acceptance as a mechanism able to generate wealth, with benefits for both firms and the community.

The article reflects the results of a study of the impact of migration on regional labour markets amidst a decline in the working-age population in Russia. After substantiating the relevance of the issues under consideration, the authors propose a methodological analysis toolkit, the author’s own methodology for calculating the coefficients of permanent long-term external and internal labour migration in regional labour markets, and the coefficient of total migration burden. In addition, the authors provide an overview of the information and statistical base of the study. According to current migration records, data of Rosstat sample surveys on Russian labour migrants leaving for employment in other regions, regional labour resources balance sheets based on the calculated coefficients of labour market pressures, the authors analyzed the impact of migration on the Russian regional labour markets over the past decade. It revealed an increasing role of internal labour migration in many regions, primarily in the largest economic agglomerations and oil and gas territories. At the same time, the role of external labour migration remains stable and minimum indicators of the contribution of permanent migration to the formation of regional labour markets continue to decrease. It has been established that irrational counter flows of external and internal labour migration have developed, which indicates not only an imbalance in labour demand and supply but also a discrepancy between the qualitative composition of migrants and the needs of the economy. It is concluded that the state does not effectively regulate certain types of migration, considering its impact on the labour market. The authors justified the need for conducting regular household sample surveys according to specific programs to collect information about labour migrants and the conditions for using their labour. In addition to the current migration records, using interregional analysis, this information allows making more informed decisions at the federal and regional levels to correct the negative situation that has developed in the regional labour markets even before the coronavirus pandemic had struck.

Purpose This study aims at investigating the effect of psychological empowerment on job burnout and competitive advantage with the mediating role of organizational commitment and creativity. Design/methodology/approach The statistical population included all the managers and staffs of Tooka Company in Iran, and for data analysis, 120 completed questionnaires were used. Data analysis was carried out by SPSS 18 and Amos 20 software and structural equation modeling method. To test the mediating relationships, bootstrap method was used. Findings The findings showed that psychological empowerment has a significant direct effect on job burnout and competitive advantage. Also, psychological empowerment has a significant indirect effect on job burnout through the mediating role of organizational commitment. In addition, psychological empowerment has a significant indirect effect on competitive advantage through the mediating role of organizational creativity. Originality/value This study is among the first to investigate the relationship between psychological empowerment, job burnout, competitive advantage, organizational commitment and creativity.

AbstractThis paper examines human capital inequality and how it relates to earnings inequality in Portugal using data from Quadros de Pessoal for the period 1986–2017. The objective is threefold: (i) show how the distribution of human capital has evolved over time; (ii) investigate the association between human capital inequality and earnings inequality; and (iii) analyse the role of returns to schooling, together with human capital inequality, in the explanation of earnings inequality. Our findings suggest that human capital inequality, computed based on the distribution of average years of schooling of employees working in the Portuguese private labour market, records a positive trend until 2007 and decreases from this year onwards, suggesting the existence of a Kuznets curve of education relating educational attainment levels and education inequality. Based on the decomposition of a Generalized Entropy index (Theil N) for earnings inequality, we observe that inequality in the distribution of human capital plays an important role in the explanation of earnings inequality, although this role has become less important over the last decade. Using Mincerian earnings regressions to estimate the returns to schooling together with the Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition of real hourly earnings we confirm that there are two important forces associated with the observed decrease in earnings inequality: a reduction in education inequality and compressed returns to schooling, mainly in tertiary education.
