Abstract In the last few years, Romania’s forests have become one of the most interesting and most talked about topics for an increasing number of researchers from the most varied fields, both nationally and internationally. The present study aims at analyzing as accurately as possible the forests of Iasi County, especially forests with primary functions of protection, following the changes occurred after 1990 and the way these affected the functional framing of the forests and their state. This research has been accomplished based on precise statistical data collected from every region (or forestry district), these in turn being matched with maps, satellite images and aerial imagery.

O presente texto surgiu como um desafio, a análise de um assentamento mesoamericano pré-hispânico, denominado El Socorro, localizado próximo a cidade de Tlacojalpan em Veracruz, México, região do Golfo da Mesoamerica. A realização de uma abordagem contextual dos sítios arqueológicos, numa perspectiva intra e extra sítio, num primeiro momento fazendo uso de ferramentas de geoprocessamento e de procedimentos topográficos com estação total. Optamos nesse texto utilizar como substrato para nossas observações e avaliação das imagens de satélite, desenhos topográficos e dados arqueológicos dos sítios pré-hispânicos uma abordagem centrada na arqueologia da paisagem para uma identificação em superficie mas ampla do sitio dentro do contexto regional e mesoamericano. Um analisis complexo por tratarse de um sitio excepcional pela distribuçao e forma como foi construído. The realization of a contextual approach of archaeological sites, in an intra and extra-site perspective, at first using geoprocessing tools and topographic procedures. We chose to use as substrate for our observations and evaluation of satellite images, topographical drawings and archaeological data of the prehispanic sites, an approach centered on landscape archeology for a broader surface identification of the site within the regional and Mesoamerican context. Kristen A. Pond, “Harriet Martineau’s Epistemology of Gossip” (pp. 175–207) This essay is a fresh examination of Harriet Martineau’s only domestic novel, Deerbrook (1838). Though the novel seems like an interruption to those writings considered more typical of the author, and more successful, this essay traces the way in which Deerbrook’s preoccupation with epistemology connects it in important ways to the rest of Martineau’s oeuvre. While in most of her writing Martineau gives preference to what the Victorians considered to be empirical and rational ways of knowing, in Deerbrook she focuses on more typically feminized knowledge forms that rely on speculation and intuition, in particular the discourse of gossip. This essay argues that gossip’s main function in Deerbrook is not as plot device or didactic warning; rather, it functions as an epistemological category that challenges Enlightenment presumptions to certain knowledge. Read as a source of knowledge rather than a female vice, gossip becomes the tool through which Martineau raises the possibility of alternative forms of knowledge that might counter, or at least complicate, assumptions about what constitutes certain truth and right knowledge.

In recent decades the urban growth in Indonesia is likely to follow a global urban trend, characterized by peripheral urbanization. This phenomenon has potentially encouraged the growth of urban physical area to be very broad and unlimited, and often exceeds the city administrative boundary. The urban catalyst development in the eastern city accelerates the growth of settlement in the border area; while the visually of both amongst the border area and the urban area are similar. This research was conducted in Sendang Mulyo village located in the administrative area of Semarang City and in Pucang Gading village located in, Demak Region. This study aims to determine the effect of urban catalyst element on the pattern of spatial distribution in the border area of Semarang City and Demak Region. Based on literature study that has been done, this research uses a quantitative approach with descriptive method under of rationalistic paradigm. Statistical data analysis is done by regression test using software SPSS 16.0. The results of this study indicate the growth and development of urban catalyst elements in the eastern part of Semarang city, significantly has impact to the pattern of spatial distribution in the border area of the Semarang city significantly.

Functional areas are the basic spatial units in which cities or development zones implement urban plans and provide functions. Internet map big data technology provides a new method for the identification and spatial analysis of functional areas. Based on the POI (point of interest) data from AMap (a map application of AutoNavi) from 2017, this paper proposes an urban functional areas recognition and analysis method based on the frequency density and the ratio of POI function types. It takes the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone as a case study to analyze the main function and spatial distribution characteristics of the detailed functional areas. The research shows the following: (1) The POI frequency density index and the function type ratio can effectively distinguish the functions of the grid units and analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of a complex functional area. (2) The single functional area is the most common area type in the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone. The largest proportion of all areas is allocated to traditional manufacturing industry functional areas, followed by high-tech enterprises, catering and entertainment, real estate, and education and health care, in descending order. The smallest proportion is allocated to finance and insurance functional areas. (3) The current layout of the functional areas in the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone conforms to the overall requirements and planning objectives of the central and local government. The layout and agglomeration of different blocks within the economic development zone are consistent with local industry’s target orientation and development history.

This paper draws upon quantitative data collected from one of the principal associations fighting Islamophobia in France along with the population census, and provides a step forward in understanding the operation and distribution of Islamophobia. It presents a geography of Islamophobia in Paris based on statistical data, and aims to observe whether or not this geography corresponds or contrasts with geographies of inequality (such as those associated with gentrification, deprivation and marginalisation), by analysing the various spatial patterns stemming from the maps. This socio-spatial analysis of anti-Muslim discrimination is important in Paris because since the terrorist attacks in 2015, anti-Muslim sentiment has increased sharply. The mapping of Islamophobia and its association with the spatial distribution of different socioeconomic and demographic variables synthetized in a typological map display significant forms, relations and diversities within Paris. This cartographic analysis demonstrates that the geography of Islamophobia does not necessarily refer to spaces where ‘Muslims’ and the victims of Islamophobia live in great majority, and rather refers to more privileged and central areas such as Paris intra-muros. Victims mostly experience anti-Muslim incidents outside their everyday spaces away from their homes, such as public institutions and workplaces. Indeed, the findings raise the significance of the exact place where incidents occur as well as societal attitudes to these ‘hierarchical’ places where the perpetrator probably feels more comfortable in behaving in an antisocial and sometimes violent way.

Time-series satellite images can reflect the seasonal variation from vegetation on land surface. Single cropping and double cropping were extracted by decision tree classification based on MODIS NDVI of Beijing in 2007, and spatial distribution of dominant crops in Beijing was obtained. The dominant crops of single cropping were maize, wheat and vegetable, and the overwhelming majority of crops with double cropping were wheat-maize. The results showed that this method could effectively determine the dominated crops in Beijing.

Shin oak is a deciduous shrub that forms dense stands of brush on sandy soils in rangeland areas of the Rolling and High Plains of Texas. Plant canopy reflectance measurements made on shin oak showed that it had both low visible (0.63- to 0.69-μm waveband) and nearinfrared (0.76- to 0.90-μm waveband) reflectance values, a characteristic generally not shared by associated plant species or mixtures of species. The low reflectance values of shin oak caused it to have dark-red, reddish-brown, or brown image tones on color-infrared photographic, videographic, and SPOT satellite images that made it distinguishable from associated vegetation and other land use features. The optimum time to remotely distinguish this noxious shrub is during the mature phenological stage from June to September. Computer-based image analyses of video and satellite images showed that shin oak populations could be quantified. This technique can permit “percent land area” estimates of shin oak on rangelands. The aerial imagery is useful for detecting shin oak on smaller rangeland areas, whereas the satellite imagery is applicable in mapping large areas of shin oak distribution.

Cerebellar–motor coherence implies that the ordering and modes of combination of cerebellar beams reflect (1) the way movement invariants are ordered and combined in movement and (2) the way physical principles are integrated in learning to move.

Abstract: The Way of St. James (El Camino) is getting more and more popular. Analysis of the age groups of the pilgrims shows that the number of young pilgrims (30< years) is decreasing, but the number of middle-aged people (30–60 years) is slightly increasing, while the number of elderly people (>60 years) has considerably increased. The statistical data of the Pilgrims’ office in Santiago de Compostela also display the continuous elevation in the number of the “pilgrims” who had completed the El Camino without any religious or spiritual reason. Therefore this pilgrim route became a long-distance trekking – in the point of view of travel medicine. The old age is a high risk for travellers moreover in this long distance trekking. Therefore pre-travel counselling would be vital for aged pilgrims. Unfortunately, a few articles have been published only on the medical problems of El Camino. Taking into consideration the possible health damages during the 800 km long “Camino”, the author describes its health hazards. This study could be a useful guideline for pre-travel advice for El Camino pilgrims as only limited information can be gained from the Pilgrims’ Reception Office (PRO) in Santiago de Compostela. Some information was collected from the relevant pages of the internet. Therefore the author could draw limited consequences from the statistical data. Yet, the analysis of the medical causes of the deceased pilgrims told more about the hazards of ‘The Way’. Although the number of female and male pilgrims was equal in the statistical data, yet the mortality rate of the male pilgrims is much more higher than that of the female pilgrims (93–7%). The most frequent cause of death was acute coronary syndrome or its suspicion (40–34%). The second most frequent cause of death was road traffic accident (17,5–25%). The most vulnerable pilgrims are the cyclists in this respect. The exacerbation of any chronic disease was also different among the genders (3–25%) but homicide is a more frequent cause of death in the female group (2%–8%). The cause of death was exhaustion, stroke, hypothermia and drowning (because of the ritual bathing in the sea, after the route completed) as well. Orv Hetil. 2018; 159(38): 1535–1542.
