Abstract Fractional-order chaotic unified systems include a variety of fractional-order chaotic systems such as Chen, Lorenz, Lu, Liu, and financial systems. This paper describes a sliding mode controller for synchronisation of fractional-order chaotic unified systems in the presence of uncertainties and external disturbances, and affirms the stability of the controller (which is composed of error dynamics). Moreover, the synchronisation of two separate fractional-order chaotic systems is studied. For this aim, fractional integral sliding surface is defined. Then the sliding mode control rule for stability of error dynamic is presented based on the Lyapunov stability theorem. Simulation results, obtained by using MATLAB, show that the proposed sliding mode has employed an appropriate approach against uncertainties and to reduce the chattering phenomenon that often occurs with sliding mode controllers.

We focus on the synchronization of a wide class of four-dimensional (4-D) chaotic systems. Firstly, based on the stability theory in fractional-order calculus and sliding mode control, a new method is derived to make the synchronization of a wide class of fractional-order chaotic systems. Furthermore, the method guarantees the synchronization between an integer-order system and a fraction-order system and the synchronization between two fractional-order chaotic systems with different orders. Finally, three examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This chapter investigates a new control design methodology for the synchronization of fractional-order Arneodo chaotic systems using a fractional-order sliding mode control configuration. This class of nonlinear fractional-order systems shows a chaotic behavior for a set of model parameters. The stability analysis of the proposed fractional-order sliding mode control law is performed by means of the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation examples on fractional-order Arneodo chaotic systems synchronization are provided in presence of disturbances and noises. These results illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of this control design approach.

A second-order sliding mode (SOSM) controller is proposed to synchronize a class of incommensurate fractional-order chaotic systems with model uncertainties and external disturbances. Based on the chattering free SOSM control scheme, it can be rigorously proved that the dynamics of the synchronization error is globally asymptotically stable by using the Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller design approach.

This paper studies the synchronization control of fractional order chaotic systems based on memristor and its hardware implementation. This paper takes the complex dynamic phenomena of memristor turbidity system as the research background. Starting with the integer order memristor system, the fractional order form is derived based on the integer order turbid system, and its dynamics is deeply studied. At the same time, the turbidity phenomenon is applied to the watermark encryption algorithm, which effectively improves the confidentiality of the algorithm. Finally, in order to suppress the occurrence of turbidity, a fractional order sliding mode controller is proposed. In this paper, the sliding mode controller under the function switching control method is established, and the conditions for the parameters of the sliding mode controller are derived. Finally, the experimental results analyze the stability of the controlled system under different parameters, and give the corresponding time-domain waveform to verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis.

In this chapter a new direct adaptive fuzzy optimal sliding mode control approach is proposed for the stabilization of fractional chaotic systems with different initial conditions of the state under the presence of uncertainties and external disturbances. Using Lyapunov analysis, the direct adaptive fuzzy optimal sliding mode control approach illustrates asymptotic convergence of error to zero as well as good robustness against external disturbances and uncertainties. The authors present a method for optimum tuning of sliding mode control system parameter using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. PSO is a robust stochastic optimization technique based on the movement and intelligence of swarm, applying the concept of social interaction to problem solving. Simulation examples for the control of nonlinear fractional-order systems are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed fractional adaptive fuzzy control strategy.

For the synchronization of fractional-order chaotic systems with uncertain parameters, a controller based on sliding mode theory is presented. Based on the stability theory of fractional-order system, stability of the proposed method is analyzed. The theory is successfully applied to synchronize fractional Newton-Leipnik chaotic systems with uncertain parameters. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Antisynchronization phenomena are studied in nonidentical fractional-order differential systems. The characteristic feature of antisynchronization is that the sum of relevant state-variables vanishes for sufficiently large value of time variable. Active control method is used first time in the literature to achieve antisynchronization between fractional-order Lorenz and Financial systems, Financial and Chen systems, and Lü and Financial systems. The stability analysis is carried out using classical results. We also provide numerical results to verify the effectiveness of the proposed theory.

This study presents the effectiveness of dynamic coupling as a synchronization strategy for fractional chaotic systems. Using an auxiliary system as a link between the oscillators, we investigate the onset of synchronization in the coupled systems and we analytically determine the regions where both systems achieve complete synchronization. In the analysis, the integration order is considered as a key parameter affecting the onset of full synchronization, considering the stability conditions for fractional systems. The local stability of the synchronous solution is studied using the linearized error dynamics. Moreover, some statistical metrics such as the average synchronization error and Pearson’s correlation are used to numerically identify the synchronous behavior. Two particular examples are considered, namely, the fractional-order Rössler and Chua systems. By using bifurcation diagrams, it is also shown that the integration order has a strong influence not only on the onset of full synchronization but also on the individual dynamic behavior of the uncoupled systems.

This paper presents a new robust inverse optimal control strategy for flexible spacecraft attitude maneuvers in the presence of external disturbances and actuator constraint. A new constrained attitude controller for flexible spacecraft is designed based on the Sontag-type formula and a control Lyapunov function. This control law optimizes a meaningful cost functional and the stability of the resulting closed-loop system is ensured by the Lyapunov framework. A sliding mode disturbance observer is used to compensate unknown bounded external disturbances. The ultimate boundedness of estimation error dynamics is guaranteed via a rigorous Lyapunov analysis. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control law.

This paper mainly focuses on the robust synchronization issue for drive-response fractional-order chaotic systems (FOCS) when they have unknown parameters and external disturbances. In order to achieve the goal, the sliding mode control scheme only using output information is designed, and at the same time, the structures of a sliding mode surface and a sliding mode controller are also constructed. A sufficient criterion is presented to ensure the robust synchronization of FOCS according to the stability theory of the fractional calculus and sliding mode control technique. In addition, the result can be applied to identical or non-identical chaotic systems with fractional-order. In the end, we build two practical examples to illustrate the feasibility of our theoretical results.
