Background: The different fields of biotechnology can be classified by colors, as a "rainbow" methodology. In this sense, the red biotechnology, focused on the preservation of health, has been outstanding in helping to solve this challenge through the provision of technologies, including diagnostic kits, molecular diagnostics, vaccines, innovations in cancer research, therapeutic antibodies and stem cells. Objective: The main goal of this work is to highlight the different areas within the red Biotechnology. In this sense, we revised some patents regarding red biotechnology as examples to cover this subject. Methods: A literature search of patents was performed from the followings Patents Database: INPI, USPTO, Esp@cenet, WIPO and Google Patents. Results: Our analysis showed the following numbers from patents found: cancer research (8), diagnosis kit (9), vaccines (8), stem cells (9) and therapeutic antibodies (5), where the United States is the leader for most filled patents in Red Biotechnology. Conclusion: This mini-review has provided an update of some patents on Recent Patents in Red Biotechnology. As far as we know, this is the first mini-review report on Red Biotechnology based on patents.

In this work, the effect of pre-fermentative skin maceration (PFSM) on the chemical composition of the macromolecular fraction, polysaccharides and proteins, phenolic compounds, chromatic characteristics, and protein stability of Albariño monovarietal white wines was studied. PFSM increased the extraction of phenolic compounds and polysaccharides and reduced the extraction of pathogenesis-related proteins (PRPs). PFSM wine showed significantly higher protein instability. Sodium and calcium bentonites were used for protein stabilisation of wines obtained with PFSM (+PFSM) and without PFSM (−PFSM), and their efficiencies compared to fungal chitosan (FCH) and k-carrageenan. k-Carrageenan reduced the content of PRPs and the protein instability in both wines, and it was more efficient than sodium and calcium bentonites. FCH was unable to heat stabilise both wines, and PRPs levels remained unaltered. On the other hand, FCH decreased the levels of wine polysaccharides by 60%. Sodium and calcium bentonite also decreased the levels of wine polysaccharides although to a lower extent (16% to 59%). k-Carrageenan did not affect the wine polysaccharide levels. Overall, k-carrageenan is suitable for white wine protein stabilisation, having a more desirable impact on the wine macromolecular fraction than the other fining agents, reducing the levels of the wine PRPs without impacting polysaccharide composition.

: The present paper elucidates the conceivable application of two key molecules in SARS-CoV-2 detection of suspected infected persons. These molecules were selected from the basis of ACE-2 and S protein strong interaction that allows virus attachment to its host cells, on the other hand specific immunocompetant effectors generated by human immune system during the infection. Several testing procedures are already used to diagnose SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly RT-PCR technique. ELISA and LFIA are possible assays for the employment of shACE-2/ hAc-anti-S (the molecules of interest) as the main agents of the test and confer a dual principal functions (capture and detection). The future diagnostic kits involving shACE-2 and hAc-anti-S will have the particularity of high sensitivity and rapid detection in addition to its advantage of relatively easy conception. It could be largely considered as a technical advanced kits in regards to the current SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic immunoassays.
