Methods: qualitative study, with 13 family members, in five clinical inpatient units linked to the clinical nursing service of a general hospital. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Results: the challenges perceived by family members were turnover of professionals in the work schedules and difficulty in specialized management. The participants suggested training of the team, greater multi-professional integration, improved management and reduced turnover of professionals during care. Conclusion: family members verbalized difficulties and suggestions to support reflection on the care offered to people with psychiatric symptoms hospitalized in clinical units, in order to improve work practices and qualify care.

Abstract Background:Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, telemedicine was only used to deliver health care to patients living in remote areas of Australia. However, the spread of the Covid-19 virus pushed the widespread uptake of telemedicine across Australia, including in metropolitan regions. This qualitative study will explore the medical oncology (MO) patient and clinician experience of telemedicine in a metropolitan setting as a result of Covid-19.Method:Participants were selected and invited to participate by theoretical sampling from MO clinicians and patients attending MO clinics at Prince of Wales Hospital. Data was collected by in-depth semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was performed to analyse the interview data. Transcripts were coded using the grounded theory approach to identify overarching themes. Results:Twelve participants were recruited to the study. Most participants viewed the adoption of telemedicine positively because it was considered as convenient, efficient and could be used in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19. Nonetheless, participants complained about the poor implementation of telemedicine, technical difficulties and lack of proper training. Finally, providers expressed mixed views over the lack of personal interaction and the lack of physical examination from telemedicine. However, both clinicians and patients viewed telemedicine as acceptable to be used in the context of routine follow-ups.Conclusion:Although some operational improvements are necessary, the role of telemedicine in the follow up of MO patients seems likely to continue beyond Covid-19.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the perception of a multiprofessional team regarding the use of music in a therapeutic workshop developed by nurses. Method: Qualitative study, of the exploratory type. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, with the participation of 13 professionals from a Psychosocial Care Center in a municipality of Minas Gerais’ Zona da Mata, and analyzed according to Michel Maffesoli’s comprehensive sociology approach. Results: The testimonies revealed that the use of music in the nurse’s activities in mental health represents a re-signification of nursing care and favors the user’s subjectivity. Final considerations: This study allowed us to show that nurses need to listen to the music that comes from the heart, from the soul, and to the truths that are not always stated in the scenarios of therapeutic practices with individuals going through psychic suffering. Therefore, the care offered should be centered on the human history, which wants to be unveiled and understood.

Four meetings were held; the first being four starting at the admission to the hospital. The participants were informed about the study objectives and the proposed method, and following care was provided based both on method and theory. Data collection was performed using individual semi-structured interviews, field diary, participant observation and thematic category content analysis. The clinical care implemented in the environmental context aimed at promoting adaptation to the coronary care unit and also providing an enabling environment for comfort and relaxed atmosphere. Background Although evidence suggests that empathic behaviour is an essential component in nursing care that affects the psychological distress experienced by cancer patients, it remains a neglected issue in nursing in Iran. Methods: This study was conducted on 33 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using in-depth interviews and were then analysed using qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Findings: Three categories of data thus emerged, comprising: (a) empathetic attention; (b) empathetic presence; and (c) the facilitators of empathetic behaviour. Conclusions: The findings can help oncology nurses provide more empathetic care to patients and their family members.

Abstract Objective: to identify the meaning of aging as perceived by the elderly and their relatives. Method: an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative study was carried out in 2014, based on semi-structured interviews with eight elderly participants of a social group and five relatives of elderly people. The information was synthesized using Bardin’s content analysis, from the description of the subjects’ speech in terms of units of significance. Results: content analysis revealed two thematic categories: the meaning of aging in the perception of the elderly and human aging in the understanding of the relatives. Conclusion: the perceptions of the interviewees regarding aging refer to successful, dignified and active aging, with autonomy, independence and the possibility of accomplishment, considering the specificities and difficulties of understanding the process of living and coexistence between family members. The caregivers reported concerns about the future of the elderly in terms of health, dependence, and physical, psychic and social limitations, with a combination of positive and negative feelings, but recognized their responsibility of care.
