Seaweed-Kappaphycus-Euchema Cottonii and Denticulum species was first cultivated at Sabah side of Sebatik in 2009. By November 2014, sixty one Sabahan seaweed farmers cultivated 122 ha or 3,050 long lines. Thirty Sabahan seaweed farmers in Kampung Pendekar (3.2 m.t dried) and 31 in Burst Point (12.5 m.t dried) produced 16 metric tonnes of dried seaweed contributed 31% to Tawau’s total production (51 m.t). The remaining 69% were from farmers in Cowie Bay that separates Sebatik from municipality of Tawau. Indonesian in Desa Setabu, Sebatik started in 2008. However, the number of Indonesian seaweed farmers, their cultivated areas and production (as well as quality) in Sebatik increased many times higher and faster than the Sabah side of Sebatik. In 2009 more than 1,401 households in Kabupaten Nunukan (including Sebatik) cultivated over 700 ha and have produced 55,098.95 and 116, 73 m.t dried seaweed in 2010 and 2011 respectively. There is a divergence in productions from farming the sea off the same island under similar weather conditions. Which of the eight explanatory factors were affecting production of seaweeds in Sebatik? Using Cobb Douglas production function, Multiple Regression analysis was conducted on 100 samples (50 Sabahan and 50 Indonesian). Results; Variable significant at α = 0.05% are Experience in farming whereas Farm size; Quantity of propagules and Location — Dummy are the variables significant at α 0.01%. Not significant are variables Fuel; Age; Number of family members involved in farming and Education level.

Attitudes and values related to entrepreneurship imbibed by graduates may serve as impediments to future economic growth and development of entrepreneurship. Factors behind the nonchalant attitude towards entrepreneurship by the potential entrepreneur youth need to be identified and their influence remedied. This descriptive and co-relational study analyzed the socio-economic factors determining attitude towards entrepreneurship among graduates in Botswana. A valid and reliable questionnaire was used for data collection through a survey of 149 (n=149) randomly sampled graduates in Botswana. Data was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical tools of mean, frequency, independent t-test, one way analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis. Descriptive statistics indicated that the students would like to pursue their future career as entrepreneurs but opposite to the student career ambition, the parents want their children to become future professionals. Findings revealed that eight socio-economic factors namely; gender, program of study, year of study, mothers’ education level, mothers’ profession, family income level and students career ambition after completion of degree program and parents career ambition after completion of degree program have significant influence on the students’ attitude towards entrepreneurship. Multiple regression analysis indicated that the socio-economic factors are significant predictors of students’ attitude towards entrepreneurship. Furthermore, mothers’ education level was the top significant socio-economic factor predicting the students’ attitude followed by students’ career ambition after completion of the program, the year of study and the program of study. Further research can be conducted to investigate the reasons for gender difference in students’ attitude towards entrepreneurship and, reasons for contradicting career ambitions of the students and their parents.

The study analysed the influence of socio-economic factors of rural household on fuelwood consumption in Orlu Agricultural Zone of Imo State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study described the socio-economic characteristics of the households; determined the quantity (kg) of fuel wood consumed by household per week; identified coping measure in fuelwood scarcity among household and determined the influence of socio-economic characteristics of households on the quantity (kg) of fuelwood consumed. Data for the study were collected using structured questionnaire from 60 rural households through multi-stage sampling technique. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical tools and multiple regression analysis. Greater proportions (68.33%) were females. Mean age was 43.00 years. Majority (73.33%) were married with an average household size of 6 persons. The major occupation was farming (51.67%). Average farm size and farming experience of the rural household were 1.30 ha and 19 years respectively. Majority (56.67%) had primary education. Average fuelwood consumed by households weekly was 30.20 kg. The main coping measures for increasing fuelwood scarcity in the area were extinguish firewood after cooking (96.67%) and shifting to saw dust (88.33%). Estimated multiple regression analysis revealed that there was significant relationship between household heads socio-economic characteristic and quantity of fuelwood consumed weekly. The major determinants of the fuelwood collection and consumption in the area were age, sex, farm size, marital status, main occupation and educational level of household heads. The F-ratio was 5.125, indicating the overall significant of the regression model at 1% level of probability.

The restriction of sodium intake, one of the pillars of antihypertensive treatment, has been associated with the increase in cholesterol levels. Given this, we hypothesize that a sodium intake restriction may increase cholesterol levels in hypertensive women. The present study aimed to evaluate the influence of sodium intake, sociodemographic, lifestyle and anthropometric variables on the blood cholesterol levels of hypertensive women. This was a cross-sectional study with hypertensive and nondiabetic women aged 20 to 59 years, recruited from the primary healthcare units of Maceio, Alagoas, in the Brazilian Northeast. Sodium intake was estimated by the 24-hour urinary excretion of sodium; and blood cholesterol was estimated by capillary blood. Age (years), education level (<4 or ≥4 years), race (white or nonwhite), smoking and alcohol consumption were evaluated. The weight, height and waist circumference were measured and body mass index, conicity index and waist-to-height ratio were quantified. The percentage of body fat was measured using a tetrapolar bioelectrical impedance device. The relationship between blood cholesterol and other variables was assessed by multiple regression analysis. A significance level of 5% was used in the final model. This study included 165 hypertensive women. In linear regression, blood cholesterol wasdirectly proportional to age (p<0.001), education level (p=0.01) and race (p=0.04). These variables, as well assodium intake (p = 0.07) and conicity index (p = 0.12), were included in the multiple regression analysis. Sodium intake (p=0.03) and age (p=0.001) were related, in an inverse and a direct way, respectively, to the blood cholesterol in the hypertensive women studied.

This study investigates the influence of hedonism and gender on liberal accounting actions. This research uses a survey method by using questionnaires. Factor analysis results reveal that three questions of hedonism and four questions of liberal accounting are valid. Cronbach’s alpha of each variable show that they are reliable. Multiple regression analysis is conducted for examining the research hypotheses. Control variables in the research model are job and education level. Data analysis results indicate that hedonism positively affects liberal accounting. However, the results show that gender does not affect liberal accounting. The research contribution is to relate hedonism and gender with liberal accounting behaviors. This provides new theoretical explanations of liberal accounting behaviors. Study conclusions can be beneficial for deciding the appropriate human characteristics for certain accounting choices.

This study aimed to determine the concept of the blessing of zakat and the muzaki’s perception about the blessings and to find internal factors that affected the muzaki in issuing zakat to zakat institutions. These factors were the service of zakat institutions, muzaki’s religiosity, feeling blessed, gender, education level, and occupation, whether all of which affected the propensity of their choice in issuing zakat to zakat institutions. Sampling used purposive random sampling. For data analysis tools, this study used multiple regression analysis with tobit models. The findings in this study showed that the feeling of blessing by issuing zakat and occupational factors did not significantly influence the preferences of muzaki to issue zakat to certain zakat institutions. For the service of zakat institution, gender, and education level, they significantly and positively affected the preferences to issue zakat to zakat institutions. The variable of muzaki’s religiosity negatively affected the trend in the choice of muzaki to issue zakat to zakat institutions significantly.
