Large branchiopods has been distributed in temporary waters around the world, but the knowledge about these organisms in Colombia is poorly known, especially leptesteriids, we report a new record of the Clam Shrimp Leptestheria venezuelica Daday, 1923 from the north of Colombia.

Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774) is an Asian freshwater clam that is widely distributed throughout the world through multiple introductions. Its invasion can cause environmental and economic damage. In Brazil, C. fluminea is recorded in all major hydrographic basins. Here, we report the first record of C. fluminea in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region of Goiás, Brazil. This new record extends the known distribution of this species to a conserved area in the Cerrado biome, towards areas of interest for conservation and integral protection units of the biodiversity.

Saccharomycetales are ascomycetic yeasts and among them the genus Blastobotrys has approximately 30 known species. Blastobotrys malaysiensis is a yeast species, described from cave samples, known until then only from Malaysia. In this study, we characterize a new strain and report the second occurrence record of this species. Here, Blastobotrys malaysiensis SXS675, was collected from soil samples from a cave in the Parque Estadual de Terra Ronca (PETER) in Goiás, Brazil. Phylogenetic analyzes revealed strong support with the sequence of the species type, as well as with other species of the clade. This new record contributes by providing new molecular data for the species and expanding the knowledge of its distribution beyond the Asian continent. First record of a yeast for the American continent and its second mention for the world.

Moringua edwardsi is recorded for the first time at Atol das Rocas, northeastern Brazil. Previous records of the species were located in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida to southeastern Brazil, but with many gaps between these regions. A single specimen was collected in Atol das Rocas in July 2007 and it is deposited in the Dias da Rocha Ichthyological Collection. The new record of M. edwardsi fills a geographic distribution gap of this species and complements the inventory of fish species inhabiting one of the most unique marine protected areas in the world.

Sampling between 1999 and 2007 of the recent ostracod fauna of Lake Biwa, an ancient lake located in Japan, produced ten Cyprididae and one Ilyocyprididae species. One Cyprididae species, belonging to the genus Ilyodromus is described herein, Ilyodromus intermedius Okubo n. sp., and Bradleytriebella lineata (Victor & Fernando, 1981c) is redescribed. One Cyprididae species is a new record for Japan, namely Stenocypris malayica Victor & Fernando, 1981a, while seven others are new records for Lake Biwa. The family Ilyocyprididae is represented by only one species in Lake Biwa, Ilyocypris salebrosa Stepanaitys, 1960. The Lake Biwa population of this species is the first record of males and they are described in this paper. Including this study, forty ostracod species have now been reported from Lake Biwa. Most species (70%) were found at depths of less than 1 meter. Only four species were found below 44 m, the mean depth of the north basin.

Brydes’s whale (Balaenoptera edeni) is a species of baleen whale known to live year-round in warm waters, although the distribution of the species in the North Atlantic Ocean is still poorly known. In this work we report the sighting of an adult individual during the summer of 2020 in the South coast of Portugal. The whale was observed 6.4 nautical miles from the shore at a depth of 50.6 metres. Initially this individual was associated with a group of bottlenose dolphins. This is the first record of this species for mainland Portugal.

Nymphoides grayana (Menyanthaceae) is a macrophyte, and its occurrence is known in Brazil only for the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. In this paper, a new record of N. grayana is presented for the state of Tocantins, representing the first record of Menyanthaceae for the state and expanding the occurrence of the species for the North Region of Brazil.

During a patrolling duty in Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park (JSWNP) in Bhutan, a lone male Blue-and-white Flycatcher Cyanoptila cyanomelan was observed and photographed. This is the first photographic evidence and confirmation on presence of the species in Bhutan. These new record confirm an extension of the species’ distribution in the North East Indian Sub Continent. As this is new record to Bhutan, there could be other undetected incidence of migrant species occurrence in the country. More observation must be carried out during bird migration seasons to discover such instances.

Enyalius bibronii Boulenger, 1885 is a Neotropical lizard registered in seven northeastern Brazilian states; in this paper we present the first record of Enyalius bibronii for the state of Alagoas, Brazil, and a distribution map for this species. These records fill the gaps of the geographical distribution of E. bibronii, in the north region of the São Francisco River in Brazil.

Background: Although the colonial flagellate alga Anthophysa vegetans is well known in Europe, it has only been recorded from Africa (Nigeria) once. It was recently found in the Mooi River, South Africa – making this a first record of the presence of A. vegetans in southern Africa. Objectives: The objective of this study is to record a new geographic locality for A. vegetans for South Africa. Method: Light microscopy was used to compare morphological features of the species found in South Africa with illustrations and literature on A. vegetans found in Europe and other countries of the world. An extensive literature survey was done to determine the species’ current geographic distribution. Results: A. vegetans is widely distributed across all continents, except Africa and Antarctica. During this study, it was described from a new location in the Mooi River near Potchefstroom in the North West province, South Africa, making this a first record of its presence in southern Africa. Conclusion: The known geographic distribution of A. vegetans was expanded to include southern Africa and, to be more specific, South Africa.

Corbicula fluminea is an invasive clam originally from Asia that threatens the biodiversity of freshwater communities around the world. It has greatly expanded in Brazil since its first record. We report here the occurrence of C. fluminea from Piauí state, Parnaíba river basin and, provide an assessment of its current distribution in Brazil. The compiled data include 382 records in 22 states and the Federal District, encompassing a variety of ecosystems. These results contribute to a discussion about the invasion and expansion process of C. fluminea in Brazil over time.
