Objective. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effi cacy and selectivity of the herbicide pendimethalin on weed control in soybean at Gezira State, Sudan. Methods. A fi eld experiment was carried out at Gezira Research Station Farm, Wad Medani, Sudan during summer season 2018/2019. The pendimethalin (Pendimight 500 EC®) was applied at three doses as pre-emergence treatment. The doses were 1.339, 1.785 and 2.232 Kg a.i./ha. Weeded and un-wedded treatments were included for comparison. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block designed with four replicates. Data were subjected to descriptive analysis and analysis of variance procedure (P ≤ 0.05). Signifi cant means were separated using Duncan’s Multiple Range test. Results. The results showed that all herbicide treatments were effective in weed control. They signifi cantly reduced weed infestation compared to un-weeded control and signifi cantly promoted the yield and various growth characters of soybean over un-weeded control treatment, except pendimethalin at the dose of 2.232 Kg a.i./ha which only reduced the plant population by 7% due to a phytotoxicity effect on soybean as compared to un-weeded control treatment. Application of pendimethalin at the dose 1.339 kg a.i./ha signifi cantly controlled grasses and broad leaf weeds in soybean. It was also found superior in respect of various growth and yield attributes. Highest seed yield (1562.5 kg /ha) was recorded under pendimethalin treatment at a dose of 1.339 kg a.i./ha. Chemical analysis of soybean seeds showed that no residues of the tested herbicide were detected. Conclusions. It is concluded that the tested pre-emergence herbicide pendimethalin at the dose of 1.339 kg a.i./ha could be used effectively and safely in controlling weeds in soybean crop.

A field experiment was conducted at the Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur during Kharif season 2015 and 2016 to adjudge the efficacy of different herbicide and herbicide mixtures against weeds in soybean. Monocot weeds were predominant (55.15%) in the experimental field compared with dicot weeds (44.85%). However, Echinochloa colona (41.56%) and Trianthema portulacastrum (33.16%) were predominant in soybean but, other weeds (Cyperus rotundus, Cynodon dactylon, Commelina benghalensis, Digera arvensis, Amaranthus viridis, Physalis minima, Corchorus spp.) were also present at 60 DAS. Among different weed control treatments, post-emergence and tank mix combination of propaquizafop + imazethapyr (75+75 g ha-1) and imazethapyr + quizalofop-ethyl (75+60 g ha-1) at 21 DAS were most effective in respect of reducing weed density, weed biomass, nutrient removal by weed and promote yield attributes and yield and quality of soybean as compared to rest of weed control treatment.

To study the weed management in drilled paddy an experiment was conducted at Agriculture Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Derol Dist: panchmahal, Gujarat during kharif seasons of the years 2012-13, 2013-14 ,2014-15 and 2015 -16 . Ten treatments for weed management were studied in randomized block design with four replications. Results that all the growth and yield attributes except plant height and test weight were significantly influenced due to different weed control treatments. The grain and straw yield of drilled paddy were also altered significant due to weed control treatments. In general, T2 (two hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS) recorded the highest yield among all. It was, however, at par with three other treatments which included pre and post emergence application of herbicides. Since, the application of Oxadiargyl @ 90 g/ha f/b Bisbyribac sodium @ 25 g/ha at 20 DAS is one among the dual application of herbicide, it can be recommended for drilled paddy in options of two hand weeding.

A field trial was conducted during two consecutive summer seasons of2012 and 2013 at ICAR-Central Potato Research Station, Shillong, Meghalaya to evaluate the integration of nutrient sources on productivity and soil health under rainfed potato cultivation in north eastern hill region of India. There were six treatments of integrated nutrient management viz., 100% Recommended dose of fertilizers,75% RDF through synthetic fertilizers and 25% recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) through FYM, 50% RDF and 50% RDN through FYM, 25% RDF and 75% RDN through FYM, 100% RDN through FYM and control (no application of any sources of nutrients). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with four replications. Nutrient management practices showed the significant improvement on growth and yield attributes of potato over control plot. Highest productivity of potato tubers (t/ha) was noticed with application of 75% RDF through synthetic fertilizers along with 25% RDN through FYM. Similarly, the maximum net return was associated with application of 75% RDF and 25% RDN through FYM under investigation. Application of 75% Recommended dose of nutrients through synthetic fertilizers in combination with 25% Recommended dose of nitrogen through FYM was more profitable for sustainable production of potato in the north eastern hill region of India.

Field experiment was carried out during the spring and fall seasons of 2019 at the Abu Ghraib Research Station of the Agricultural Research Office/ Ministry of Agriculture, was aimed to investigate the effect of plant growth inhibitors on growth and yield of several sorghum varieties .Randomized Complete Block Design within split plot arrangement with three replications was used. The main plot consists of three growth inhibitors (Cycocel, Ethiphon, and Mebiquat), which were added at stages six and eight leaf stage, in addition to the control treatment (distilled water only), the sub plot was included three cultivars (Mabrouk, Buhooth 70 and Giza 113). The results showed in both seasons significant interaction between cultivars and growth inhibitors in most of the studied traits. The plants of the variety Giza 113 sprayed with Ethiphon recorded the lowest period of reaching physiological maturity, the highest average dry matter yield, and the highest weight of 1000 grains (89.00 days, 17.32 ton ha-1, and 39.33 gm) respectively. The same variety recorded the highest content of chlorophyll in the leaves and the highest grain yield due to the effect of Mebiquat (49.50 spad, 3.93 ton ha-1. The cultivar Buhooth 70 with the effect of Cycocel achieved the highest average of dry matter yield of 33.27 ton ha-1.

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur, Bangladesh during the period of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 to investigate the effect of vermiwash on growth, yield and quality of brinjal and to find out suitable foliar dose of vermiwash for optimizing the yield of brinjal. There were five treatments comprising T1= Chemical fertilizer (CF) + foliar spray of distilled water (control), T2 = CF + foliar spray of 10% vermiwash, T3 = CF + foliar spray of 20% vermiwash, T4 = CF + foliar spray of 30% vermiwash and T5= CF + foliar spray of 40% vermiwash. Results revealed that, vermiwash treated brinjal plants showed better growth and yield parameters than the control plants. The highest average brinjal fruit yield (29.99 t ha-1) was found in T3 treatment i.e., foliar spray of 20% concentration of vermiwash and the lowest (26.35 t ha-1) came from control. On the other hand, nutritional quality (moisture content, TSS, β carotene and nutrient content) were seen to be higher in vermiwash treated treatment compared to control treatment. The study suggests that, 20% concentration of vermiwash could be used as effective foliar spray for eco-friendly and higher yield of brinjal.

Background: Blackgram is an important crop among kharif pulses and is usually grown on marginal and sub-marginal lands without proper weed management under rainfed situation. Broad bed furrows had greater influence on plant growth over farmers practice. Weed management through mechanical or manual is normally tedious, labour consuming and costlier. Keeping this in view, the present study was envisaged to investigate integrated effect of land configuration and weed management regimes on productivity of urdbean. Methods: A field experiment was carried out during kharif seasons of 2016 and 2017 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Lam, Guntur on effect of land configuration and weed management on performance of urdbean (Vigna mungo L.Hepper). The treatments included two land configurations i.e., flat bed and broad bed furrow method allotted as horizontal plots and four weed management practices i.e., weedy check, pendimethalin 30 EC @ 1.0 kg a.i ha-1 PE, imazethapyr 10% SL @ 55 g ha-1 at 15-20 DAS and pendimethalin 30 EC @ 1.0 kg a.i ha-1 PE fb imazethapyr 10% SL @ 55g ha-1 at 15-20 DAS allotted as vertical plots replicated four times in a strip plot design. The comparison of treatment means was made by critical difference (CD) at P less than 0.05 by using standard statistical procedures. Result: Based on the results, it can be concluded broad bed method of land configuration proved its superiority over flat bed method by producing 12.8 per cent higher grain yield besides empowering growth and yield attributes. Among the weed management practices, the highest grain yield (1280 kg ha-1) recorded with pendimethalin 30 EC @ 1.0 kg a.i ha-1 PE fb imazethapyr 10% SL @ 55g ha-1 at 15-20 DAS along with maximum monetary returns and B:C can be recommended for urdbean.

Field trial was conducted during the 2012 and 2013 wet seasons at Institute for Agricultural Research,Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Farms at Kadawa and Minjibir, (110 39’N, 080 20’E) and Kano (120 08’ N, 080 40’ E)500m above sea level in the Semi arid ecological zone of Nigeria, to study the influence of weed control treatment and plant population on yield and yield attributes of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.)Moench. sub-species. saccharatum) varieties. The treatments consisted of four levels of weed control treatment (one rate each of atrazine and primextra gold at 2.1 kg a.i/ha, hoe-weeded control at 3 and 6 weeks after sowing (WAS) and weedy check), three plant densities (53,333, 106,667, and 160,000 plants/ha), and two varieties(NTJ2 and Ex-Daura). The treatments were laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The combination of weed control treatment and the plant population were assigned to main plot while the two varieties to sub-plot. The study revealed that primextra gold at 2.1 kg a.i/haand two hoe-weeding at 3 and 6 WAS resulted in significantly longer panicle length, higher 1000-grain weight, stalk, grain, and brix yields in both seasons and locations.T he performance of this herbicide was comparable to hoeweeding in keeping the trial fields weed free and lower competition for nutrients at both location seasons. Weedy check reduced all yields and yield attributes. The 160,000 plants/ha significantly suppressed weed infestation and resulted in longer panicles, higher 1000-grain weight, stalk, grains and brix yields at the two the locations and seasons. NTJ2 performed better in term yield and yield attributes, with higher stalk yield at Kadawa and grain yield at Minjibir. Based on the result obtained from this , it can be concluded that the use of NTJ2 variety, with application of primextra gold at 2.1 kg a.i/ha, and 160,000 plant population and NTJ2 variety had resulted gave season long weed control, the highest stalk and grain yields at Kadawa and Minjibir.Keywords: Grainand stalk yields, plant population, sweet sorghum and weed control
