Range extension of Hypostomus cochliodon Kner, 1854 (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) in Bermejo River, Salta, Argentina

Hypostomus cochliodon Kner, 1854 had been recorded from Paraguay and Paraná rivers in Argentina. We recorded for the first time specimens of H. cochliodon to the Bermejo River basin. It is also the first record of this species to Salta province, Argentina.

The New Zealand mudsnail Potamopyrgus antipodarum (Gray, 1843) has been considered as one of the most invasive mollusks worldwide and recently was listed among the 50 most damaging species in Europe. In the present paper, we report for the first time the presence of P. antipodarum in the Maule river basin, Chile. The identity of the species was based on anatomical microdissections, scanning electron microscopy comparisons, and DNA barcode analysis. This finding constitutes the southernmost record of the species until now in this country and South America.

The Lacantun Catfish, Lacantunia enigmatica, is reported for the first time in the Usumacinta river basin in Guatemala. Two specimens were collected in the Usumacinta tributaries Río La Pasión and Río Negro, which are characterized by seasonally fast-flowing deep channels and high fluctuations in water-level. We present a map with new records, and a brief description, and images of the specimens collected.

The Thiarid snail Melanoides tuberculatus (Müller, 1774), native to Asia and East Africa was recorded for the first time in the Paranã River basin, Goiás State. There is no evidence concerning introduction vectors but aquarium releases is the most probable vector. Specimens were collected at three different water bodies after twenty-seven rivers were investigated. The possible spread of this species to other habitats and potential effects on native thermal water communities are discussed.

The bee mimicking hover fly genus Volucella Geoffroy, 1762 and the potter wasp mimicking genus Monoceromyia Shannon, 1922 are reported for the first time from South India. Lymnaea biacuminata Annandale & Rao, 1925, is a rare freshwater snail with less than 10 locality records in the states of Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand of India. This species is taxonomically problematic and its relationship to the morphologically similar L. acuminata Lamarck, 1822, unresolved. We identify L. biacuminata from Maharashtra for the first time and this species’ distributional range to Pune, about 500 km westwards from the type locality at Hosainsagar lake between Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Telangana. In Maharashtra, we found L. cf. biacuminata sympatric with L. acuminata. To aid in distinguishing between these two species, additional information on breeding behaviour and shell morphometry of both species are provided.

Abstract The Ligurian leafhopper (Eupteryx decemnotata Rey 1891) has been recorded for the first time in Poland, in a commercial greenhouse in Warsaw. Individuals were collected from rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.). Intense feeding of this species caused serious damage in the cultivation of rosemary. For this reason, the range extension of this species must be monitored.

Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker, 1857) is a small mytilid native to Southeast Asia. It was introduced in South America in early 1990 and has dispersed from Argentina to central Brazil, and until 2014 has been restricted mainly to the Paraná and Uruguay river basins. The present note reports the occurrence of Limnoperna fortunei for the first time in the São Francisco River basin in northeastern Brazil. The establishment of L. fortunei in these regions will require close attention from the government and also by society.

Sterrer's cave shrimp (Parhippolyte sterreri) is recorded for the first time from San Salvador Island, Bahamas. A single adult specimen was collected in June 2011 with hand nets at the southern conduit mouth in Mermaid Pond, an anchialine pond on the south-east corner of the island. Twelve additional specimens were collected in June 2013 from two additional sites near Mermaid Pond (Dunk City Pond and the Pigeon Creek Conduit). These collections represent a minor range extension ofP. sterreriin the Bahamas. Additionally, we report on populations ofBarbouria cubensisobserved in 17 other anchialine ponds on San Salvador Island.

Corbicula largillierti is a native mollusk from China. In Brazil, this species was first recorded in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso. This short communication reports the occurrence of C. largillierti for the first time in the Paraíba river basin (Brazilian semi-arid), and also considers the risk of introduction of other molluscs invaders in this basin due to the diversion of water from the São Francisco River. Densities of individuals ranged from 33 to 65 ind.m-2 (maximum values of 484 ind.m-2) in coarse sediment (gravel, 2-4 mm). The diversion of waters from the São Francisco river can lead to the introduction of new species, enhancing ecological problems in the Paraiba river basin.

The Feline Night Monkey, Aotus azarae infulatus (Kuhl, 1820), is recorded for the first time in the Caatinga biome and in the state of Piauí, northeastern Brazil, and represents a range extension of 163 km northeast from the nearest previously known occurrence of this species.
