The Xerotyphlops vermicularis (Merrem, 1820) complex represents small, burrowing snakes that occur from the Balkan Peninsula to Afghanistan and generally they are mostly observed during the springtime. In the present study, we report new records of this snake (10 individuals observed) from Elenite village in coastal Bulgaria. According to current knowledge, they represent the northernmost locality of the species in the Balkan Peninsula. We expand the known distribution of X. vermicularis and help to fill information gaps.

The genus Cernosvitovia consists of nine species in the whole world. Out of the nine species, eight species are with primary distribution in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula (except Cernosvitovia schweigeri). In the Lumbricidae fauna of Serbia, seven species from this genus have been registered. Among them, 6 taxa are endemic. The aim of this paper is to present new data of the endemic species Cernosvitovia dudichi Zicsi & Šapkarev, 1982, based on the current taxonomic status of species, literature data, and our unpublished data. In this paper, we have summarized the knowledge on the geographic distribution, biology, and habitat C. dudichi in Serbia. Our recent investigations have revealed new records for C. dudichi in Central Serbia. After 30 years, this species was found in another place in this area, in Goč Mt. New locality suggests that C. dudichi possess a wider range than it was previously thought.

The paper summarizes current knowledge upon taxonomy and distribution of the freshwater Gammarus Fabricius, 1775 in Iran. Based on the literature data, 24 species were recorded so far from the fresh waters in the country. Revision of previously published materials including type collections, and analysis of new materials, revealed presence of 18 valid freshwater Gammarus species in Iran (G. anodon, G. bakhteyaricus, G. baloutchi, G. crinicaudatus, G. hegmatanensis, G. komareki, G. lacustris, G. lobifer, G. loeffleri, G. lordeganensis, G. paricrenatus, G. parthicus, G. pretzmanni, G. pseudosyriacus, G. sepidannus, G. shirazinus, G. sirvannus and G. zagrosensis). Among the remaining six species, three (G. arduus, G. laticoxalis, G. syriacus) were reported as a result of misidentification and further three (G. miae, G. plumipes, G. projectus) appeared to be junior synonyms of other already described species. Distribution ranges of most of the species are restricted usually to only few localities in the mountainous terrain, so they may be treated as Iranian endemics. The only exceptions are: G. lacustris (widely distributed in Holarctic, with only few populations in Iran), G. komareki (widely distributed in the Balkan Peninsula and Asia Minor, in Iran recorded from the entire Alborz region) and G. pseudosyriacus (widely distributed in Asia Minor, in Iran found in the entire Zagros region). A brief remark on taxonomy of each species is presented, with emphasis on misidentifications, synonymies and similar species, supplemented by distribution data, and ecological details if available. An identification key for the freshwater Gammarus of Iran is provided.

Lithodytes lineatus (Schneider, 1799) is a medium-sized frog distributed throughout South America and found in Brazil in the Amazonia and Cerrado domains. Here we document two new records of the species in forested areas in the state of Amapá, Northern Brazil, and provide an updated distribution map for it. The record of L. lineatus in the state of Amapá extends its distribution approximately 78 km from the nearest locality, Floresta Estadual do Paru, in the municipality of Monte Alegre, state of Pará, Brazil, and help to fill information gaps.

The current knowledge of pseudoscorpions in Estonia is summarized, based on specimens preserved in various Estonian collections and new material collected from 1993 to 2015. Altogether 474 studied specimens belonged to 14 species, including nine species recorded from Estonia for the first time. Supplemented by Apocheiridium rossicum, listed by literature data only, the number of known Estonian pseudoscorpions is now set at 15. The findings of Mesochelifer ressli are the northernmost known for the species. Some ecological and phenological observations were made on the most common species, along with notes on the habitat preferences of other species and the use of different trapping methods. The composition of the known Estonian fauna is compared with the published records from the neighbouring countries, revealing a highest similarity to the Finnish fauna.The possible occurrence of other species in Estonia and the latitudinal species diversity gradient in the Eastern Baltic region are shortly discussed.

Results of caddisfly faunal investigations in the North Russian Far East (NRFE) are summarized based on literature and the author’s data. Up to now, 122 species from 50 genera of 17 families of caddisflies have been found within the territory under study. A general list of caddisflies and their data records in 11 collecting (distributional) areas are presented. New records for 6 species in NRFE are given and Rhyacophila mirabilis (Levanidova & Schmid 1993) is recorded for the first time from continental Asia. Former distributional data for 40 species are refined. The taxonomic diversity and zoogeographical composition of the fauna are analyzed. It is noted that family Limnephilidae predominates in the northern areas.

Abstract This list contains information on the Drosophilidae that occur in the Brazilian state of Pará, Amazon biome, and an analysis of the current knowledge of Drosophilidae based on museum material and literature records. This list includes a detailed account of the material deposited in the entomological collections of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, up to 2015. In total, 122 species of Drosophilidae were registered, including 27 new records for the state of Pará and 22 are new records for the Amazon; for instance, the genera Diathoneura and Rhinoleucophenga, and three new records for Brazil, (Drosophila fasciola, Diathoneura flavolineata and Drosophila neochracea). The state of Pará is the third state in Brazil in terms of numbers of species of Drosophilidae, with 17% locally native species. Despite the high species richness, there is still a lot to be known about the states's Drosophilidae fauna. This study highlights the importance of scientific collections, particularly as an aid to study regional biodiversity.

The millipede fauna of Serbia consists of 100 species, 44 genera, 16 families and 7 orders. The most abundant are families Julidae (41 species or 41%) and Polydesmidae (22 species or 22%). Of the total number, 27 species (27%) are endemic to Serbia, while 18 (18%) are endemic to the Balkan Peninsula. All registered species can be related to 15 zoogeographical categories. Glomeris klugii Brandt, 1833 (Glomerida: Glomeridae), Cibiniulus phlepsii (Verhoeff, 1897) (Julida: Blaniulidae), Brachyiulus bagnalli (Brolemann, 1924), Megaphyllum carniolense (Verhoeff, 1897), Typhloiulus incurvatus Verhoeff, 1899, Xestoiulus luteus (Attems, 1951) (all Julida: Julidae), and Polydesmus renschi Schubart, 1934 (Polydesmida: Polydesmidae) represent new records for the diplopod fauna of Serbia.

Echinoderms within the Eastern Tropical Pacific have mainly been studied in association with coral reefs. Investigations on echinoderms associated with soft-bottoms and estuaries are still scarce. The present study reports on the echinoderm species inhabiting the soft-bottom sediments of shallow-brackish waters adjacent to the largest river basin along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Térraba-Sierpe wetland. Nine species were recorded, three of them new records for Costa Rica: Luidia columbia, L. latiradiata, and L. superba. The most common species were L. columbia, Astropecten armatus, A. regalis, and L. latiradiata. This contributes towards current knowledge on the biodiversity of Térraba-Sierpe wetland and should be considered as a baseline upon which to monitor the effects of future impacts on this important mangrove area.
