The T-Scan is an effective patient education tool for illustrating existing occlusal pathology. It presents complex occlusal information in a visual format that is easily understood. The T-Scan applies to all stages of the teaching/learning process because its recorded data forms the framework upon which a doctor/patient discussion can begin regarding the patient's occlusal disease manifestations, the potential benefit of treatments, and the risks of not undergoing corrective treatment. When used as part of an educational strategy, the T-Scan can lead the patient to accept procedures that would benefit their long-term dental health. This chapter outlines the four stages of creating optimum dental health, the steps required to perform effective teaching and learning, the differing styles of teaching and learning utilized in educational forums, and how to best employ the technique of Feature, Function, and Benefit. A case study illustrates how T-Scan data can educate a patient about their own occlusal problems.

The T-Scan is an effective patient and doctor education tool for illustrating existing occlusal pathology, as it presents complex occlusal force and timing information in a visual format that is easily understood. Chapter 19 outlines the four stages of creating optimum dental health, the steps required to perform effective teaching and learning, the differing styles of teaching and learning utilized in educational forums, and how to best employ the technique of Feature, Function, and Benefit. A few case examples illustrate how T-Scan data can educate a patient about their own occlusal problems, while describing both normal and abnormal occlusal function to a dentist.

Abstract: Indonesia has a prevalence of oral health problems which is continuously increasing, mostly among children. The two dominating diseases namely dental caries and periodontal disease. Factor that influences both diseases is behavior. Intervention through education with the use of appropriate methods and media can improve children’s knowledge. This study was aimed to compare the effectiveness of dental health education (DHE) using lecture method and simulation game in increasing the knowledge of oral health of children. This was a quasi experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design. Respondents were students of SDN Mantelagheng aged 10-12 years old as many as 56 students obtained by using total sampling method. Respondents were divided into two groups: lecture and simulation game, each of 27 students. The results showed that the DHE in lecture and simulation game groups could significantly increase the children’s knowledge about oral health (p=0.000). The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference in effectiveness between the two groups (p=0.000). The average value of the lecture group was 16.52 meanwhile of the simulation group 38.48. Conclusion: Simulation game method was more effective to improve the oral health knowledge of children than the lecture method. Keywords: dental health education, knowledgeAbstrak: Indonesia memiliki prevalensi masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang terus meningkat, dan sebagian besar terjadi pada anak-anak. It is recommended that all pregnant women should receive a comprehensive oral health evaluation because poor maternal oral health may affect pregnancy outcomes and the general health of the woman and her baby. Midwives are well placed to provide dental health advice and referral. However, in Australia, little emphasis has been placed on the educational needs of midwives to undertake this role. This article outlines the development of an online education program designed to improve midwives’ dental health knowledge, prepare them to assess the oral health of women, refer when required, and provide appropriate dental education to women and their families. The program consists of reading and visual material to assist with the oral health assessment process and includes competency testing.

Abstract Tooth brushing is an effective preventive measure to maintain individual dental health which is an integral part of general health. The current study aimed to assess determinant factors of practice of tooth brushing among Medical and Health sciences students in University of Gondar, Ethiopia. Facility based cross-sectional study was conducted from January to March 2019 using simple random sampling technique and self- administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. Adjusted odds ratio with 95% uncertainty interval and p<0.05 was used to identify determinants of tooth brushing practice Of the study participants in this study 69.6% with 95% UI (65.0, 74.5%) had good tooth brushing practice. Being female [AOR = 7.76, 95% UI (3.79, 15.88)], good dental health knowledge [AOR = 1.66, 95% UI (1.01, 2.75)] and dental flossing [AOR = 2.74, 95% UI (1.64, 4.59)] were determinant factors of tooth brushing practice. The aforementioned factors demand the attention of health sector stakeholders to improve dental health knowledge to substantially increase practice of tooth brushing.
