ABSTRACTPhase formation in ternary system of complex Sc, Na and Li phosphates was studied at 950°C and synthesis of new phases of definite composition was carried out. Obtained samples were investigated with X-ray powder diffraction, infrared and impedance spectroscopy. Compositions of fields of homogeneity with the NASICON-like structure were discovered. Temperature dependency of ionic conductivity was measured.

AbstractPhase equilibria in quasibinary system ScPO4-Na3PO4 and formation of heterovalent Zr-substituted solid solutions (up to 10 mol%) for Sc3+ in Na3Sc2(PO4)3 complex phosphate were studied by ceramic technique at 1050°C. Obtained samples were investigated with X-ray powder diffraction and impedance spectroscopy. Zr-substituted (10 mol%) Na3Sc2(PO4)3has ionic conductivity of 3.18.10-1 S/cm at 300°C.

ABSTRACTA composite solid state electrochemical device, with (Gd1-xCax)2Ti2O7 serving as the electrolyte and Gd2(Ti1-xMox)2O7 (GT-Mo) as the anode has recently been proposed. The latter exhibits high levels of mixed conduction under reducing atmospheres, but decomposes at high Po2. We have recently succeeded in extending the stability limits of the GT-Mo to higher Po2 with the addition of Mn. In this study, we report on the conductivity and stability of Gd2((Mo13Mn2/3)xTi1-x)207 (GMMT) as a function of Po2, T, and composition utilizing impedance spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. The addition of Mn extends the stability region of the material to Po2 = 1 atm with little change in the magnitude of the conductivity. Defect models explaining the dependence of the conductivity on oxygen partial pressure are presented. Preliminary results from the use of an electronic blocking sandwich cell used to isolate the ionic conductivity of GMMT are also presented.

The polymorphism of 1,3-dimethyladamantane (13DMA), 1,3-adamantanediol (13DOHA) and 1,3-dibromoadamantane (13DBrA) has been studied by X-ray powder diffraction, density measurements and differential scanning calorimetry at normal and high-pressure.

Single crystals of lithium zinc titanate (Li2ZnTi3O8) were grown in a double-mirror type optical floating-zone furnace for the first time. Single crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and Laue measurements. The ionic conductivity of the single crystals was measured in the temperature range of 400–700 K. Below 600 K, the ionic conductivity of the single crystal is one to two orders of magnitude higher than that of polycrystalline Li2ZnTi3O8. In the temperature range of 550–600 K, the temperature dependence of the ionic conductivity shows non-Arrhenius behaviour.

AbstractX-ray powder patterns for the phases in the CaO-SrO-CuO ternary system, along with the corresponding crystal structures, were obtained from the literature and from the Powder Diffraction File. Available XRD patterns were compared with each other and with a calculated pattern for each phase, yielding a recommended reference pattern. The simulated powder patterns presented here deal with the phases found within the (Ca,Sr)O, (Ca,Sr)2CuO3, (Ca,Sr)14Cu24O41, (Ca,Sr)CuO2, (Ca,Sr)Cu2O3, and (Ca,Sr)Cu2O2 solid solution series and are recommended for the Powder Diffraction File (PDF).

AbstractX-ray powder diffraction together with several other analytical techniques have been used to characterize the phase formation and the melt compositions associated with the invariant reactions in the system BaO-½Y2O3-CuOx. In this report, the characterization results of the ternary eutectic reaction of the system, the melting of the high Tc compound Ba2YCU3O6+x, and the melting of the 'green phase' BaY2CuO5 are described. The minimum malting eutectic temperature of the system has been determined to be ≈ 925°C, which corresponds to the reaction of Ba2YCu3O6+x + CuO + BaCuO2 → Liquid. The melting of Ba2YCu3O6+x takes place at around 1015°C to yield BaY2CuO5 + Liquid. The green phase melts around 1270°C to yield BaY2O4, Y2O3 and liquid. All these melts were found to contain only a small amount of Y. Reduction of the copper was found to accompany melting.

The subsolidus phase relations in the ternary system La2O3–Bi2O3–CuO at 900 °C were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction. A new binary compound, Bi2La4O9, was found, as well as a binary and a ternary solid solution series, Bi1−xLaxO1.5 (0.16≤x≤0.33) and La2−xBixCuO4 (0≤x≤0.11), respectively.

Ionic conductivity and phase transitions of lithium-zirconium phosphates, Li1±XZr2- XMX(PO4)3 (M = Ta, Nb, Y, Sc, In), with NASICON structure were studied using X-ray powder diffraction, calorimetry, 31P and 7Li NMR and impedance spectroscopy. Triclinic-rhombohedral phase transition in these materials occurs in a wide temperature range at coexistence of both phases. Unusual change of LiZr2(PO4)3 lattice parameters with temperature increase was found. During heating of this compound parameter “a” significantly decreases.
