Title: Community’s Participation in Managing Community Based – Marine Protected Area in Kepulauan Seribu District, DKI JakartaIn the last two decades, the coral reef ecosystem in Kepulauan Seribu has shown a significant degradation. Considered this, in 2004 the government of Kepulauan Seribu District initiated collaborative program in five villages and the program called as community based–marine protected area. The researchobjectives were: (1) to analyze community’s participation level in managing marine protected area in Kepulauan Seribu District and (2) to analyze the determinant factors that influence the community’s participation. The data were collected from June 2011 – May 2012 by using questionnare, observation and reviewing existing documents. Units of analizing were 202 respondents of primary stakeholders that utilize fisheries–marine resources directly. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics based on structural equation modelling (SEM). The conclusions of the study are: (1) the levelof community’s participation in managing marine protected is low and (2) this condition is influenced by community organisation’s ability and community’s motivation. Community organisation’s ability and motivation are in low level. The factors which influence community organisation’s’ ability and community’s motivation are communication approaches, the compatibility of program conception and intensity of extention agents roles.

Based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory and customer satisfaction theory, we constructed a satisfaction model for supply–demand satisfaction for community-based senior care (SSCSC) combined with the psychological perspective of the elderly, and four dimensions of basic living needs (BLNs), living environment (LE), personal traits (PTs), and livability for the aged (LA) were selected to construct the model. The data were obtained from 296 questionnaires from seniors over 50 years old (or completed by relatives on their behalf, according to their actual situation). Twenty-two observed variables were selected for the five latent variables, and their interactions were explored using structural equation modeling. The results showed that LA was the most significant factor influencing SSCSC, and it was followed by BLNs and LE. PTs did not show a direct effect on LA, but they could have an indirect effect on SSCSC through influencing BLNs and LE. Based on the current state of community aging satisfaction, we propose to establish a community elderly care service system based on the basic needs of the elderly population, providing differentiated and refined elderly care services and improving the level of aging-friendly communities. This study provides references for the government to formulate relevant policies and other supply entities to make strategic decisions and has important implications for further enhancing community elderly services to become an important part of the social security system for the elderly.

Empowerment and participation are viewed as combined strategy in combating poverty particularly in third world countries. It is considered an effective approach in uplifting the status of economy. As a medium, empowerment and participation is believed to play an important role in determining successful economic activity. Based on this premise, this research is conducted to ascertain the relationship between participation level (decision making, implementation and interest acceptance and how far these three levels effect the empowerment of PWPK members in Johor. Around 366 members from 60 Pergerakan Wanita Pekebun Kecil (Movement of Small Woman Farmer groups) have been selected as respondents using cluster multistage sampling. Research data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) assisted by AMOS 21 software. Research findings shows all three participation levels have average relationship with economic empowerment. On the other hand, participation level in interest acceptance is the most significant predictor when compared to all three levels. Hence, to determine PWPK functions as an empowerment medium, participatory level must be enhanced.

Train system is one of the transportation modes with some special characteristics that make it becomes an effective and efficient transportation system to increase the service quality. Although the AC economy class of Majapahit Railway has been officially opened by the government, it has not been able to fulfill the people’s need. It is proved with the decrease of number of passenger, and the increase of critics related to the service quality. This research aims to analyze the principal elements and the effect of service qualities towards the customer’s loyalty. The research was conducted through survey on the Majapahit railway users consisting of 200 respondents. The used sampling technique was non probability sampling with purposive sampling method. It applied Structural Equation Modelling in which the previous test was the classical assumptions. Based on the calculations, it is indicated that the variables of service quality in customer satisfaction and loyalty is significant. The principal elements that influence satisfaction and loyalty are the operational schedule, the rolling stock condition, station’s comfort and security, safety, ticket price, and how the passengers enjoy the travelling. Adjusted R square of 0.8246 shows that 82 percent of consumer’ loyalty can give impact on service quality and customer satisfaction.

The coral reef ecosystem has been continuously degraded in various parts of Indonesia, including the Anambas Islands. This research aimed to discover the content of Potassium Cyanide (KCN) accumulated on corals and the effect on indicator fishes abundance in the Anambas Islands. This research was conducted at 25 observation stations in the Anambas Islands National Marine Protected Area. The potassium cyanide (KCN) content was tested with the principle of titration and distillation. The coral samples used ranged from 10-20 g diluted in 100-200 ml distilled water. The method used to determine the abundance of indicator fish was underwater visual census or UVC, which recorded fish in every station. This research recorded 307 fish individuals from 14 species of the Chaetodontidae family. Potassium Cyanide's content on corals was high ranging from 0,009-0,032 mg/L with an average 0,0205 mg/L. We concluded that there was a negative correlation between the content of Potassium Cyanide  (KCN) on corals and indicator fishes abundance, which means the higher the Potassium Cyanide content (KCN) is on corals, the lower the indicator fishes abundance will point out.

Almost one million hectares of oil palm in Malaysia have been planted by the oil palm independent smallholders (OPISH). Most of these farms are small size holding and scatters throughout Malaysia. These factors cause them to face several problems and consequently put their income below potential. To assist the OPISH, the government had introduced the oil palm grower cooperative known as Koperasi Penanam Sawit Mampan (KPSM). The objective of KPSM is to increase the oil palm yield, OPISH incomes, and as a platform of interaction between OPISH and extension officers to discuss their problems. However, cooperatives' performance can be influenced by several factors. This paper aims to study the extension officer and members' participation as independent variables. Good governance is incorporated as a moderator variable to investigate a cooperative's performance. The partial least squares (PLS 3.0) and structural equation modelling instruments are used to analyse the data in this study. Most of the respondents are male, and 22% are of the younger generation. The results demonstrated that good governance (p-value of 0.095(p<0.1) and t=1.669 (more than 1.64) has a moderate relationship between members' participation and cooperatives' performance. On the other hand, good governance did not strengthen the relationship between the extension officer and co-operatives performance.

The lingering problem of poverty has prompted many countries to adopt community-based development strategy towards improving the Quality of Life (QoL) of their citizens. Numerous studies have focused on assessing QoL by measuring the manifested (measured) variables and ignored the significant contribution of some “latent” factors. Using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), this paper investigated the factors that influence improvement in the QoL in a Community-based Poverty Reduction Project (CPRP) in Nigeria. The model indicates that the measured variables cause only 36% (R2 = 0.36) of the reduction in poverty level of the project beneficiaries. This finding implies that there are other “hidden” factors responsible for the improvement in the quality of life.© 2016. The Authors.
