Objective. Overweight is one of the health problems that often occur in children and adolescents throughout the world, both in developed and developing countries. Study results in USA showed yearly increase of overweight prevalence in children aged 2–19 years old. In addition, based on the results by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009–2010 in United States, the highest percentage of overweight and obesity by age group was found at 12–19 years old (33.6%). Basic Health Research/Riskesdas’s data in 2013 showed the prevalence of overweight in adolescents aged 16–18 years old in Indonesia reached the highest value of 11.5%. Moreover, most teenagers see their body images as a match between self’s and others’ ideal perception. Teenagers with positive body image tend to be more confident and also easier to get along with other people, especially their peers. In this study, researcher aimed to investigate the relationship between teenagers who have excess body weight with body image, whether it had positive or negative impact.Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Data collection was done from December 2017 to January 2018. Data collected were anthropometric measurements (weight and height) and the King College London Body Image Questionnaire's filled by participants. From 400 subjects who filled the questionnaires, a total of 350 participants matched the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. Chi square test was done as data analysis.Results: Chi-square analysis for excess body weight status in relation to body image scores showed no relationship (p=1,000).Conclusions: There was no significant relationship between excessive body weight and body image.

Blood pressure was assessed in 4,207 children, aged 5 to 18 years, examined in the schools of Muscatine, Iowa during 1981. Overall, 69.9% of the age-sex-specific quintiles and height-sex-specific quintiles of systolic blood pressure were identical. In only 1.0% of children did these quintiles differ by more than one. Children whose blood pressure was in the highest quintile for both age and height were more obese than their peers. Those whose blood pressure was high for age but not for height were proportionately taller and heavier than their age peers. Children whose blood pressure was high for height but not for age were older, shorter, and lighter. Thus, having precocious levels of blood pressure for age during childhood is associated with excessive body weight or precocious height, whereas having high blood pressure for height but not for age is associated with being short for age. The latter suggests that age may be a factor independent of height and weight affecting blood pressure level in childhood. These relationships of body size and age to blood pressure must be considered when evaluating children's blood pressure levels in the clinical setting, and a technique for doing so is presented.

While conventional wisdom holds that excessive body weight is the product of some combination of a high-calorie diet and a sedentary lifestyle, public health measures aimed at these factors have been met with only limited success. This chapter considers the possibility that obesity might be better understood in terms of the biologist's notion that humans and other animals evolved the ability to store body fat as an optimal response to the presence of starvation risk. Evidence from a broad array of disciplines is consistent with this view, including the neuroendocrinology of energy homeostasis, parallels between human and animal fattening behaviour, the effect of stress on dietary intake, population-level studies of the impact of economic insecurity on body weight and international variation in obesity rates.
