Aim. To study the incidence, clinical features and predictors of postoperative myocardial infarction (MI) after lung cancer surgery.Material and methods. The retrospective analysis included 2051 patients (1373 males and 678 females, mean age, 65,5 [62-69] years), who underwent thoracotomy for non-small cell lung cancer. At the first stage, the incidence rate of postoperative MI (%) was calculated with 95% confidential interval (CI) in relation to sex, age and extent of surgery. At the second stage, the case-control study was carried out in groups with MI revealed on the first stage (n=33) and without MI (n=130), formed by individual criteria-based matching. A comparative intergroup analysis was performed and prognostic value of 60 clinical perioperative indicators was assessed by odds ratio (OR). The features associated with MI in the univariateregression model were introduced into multivariate stepwise logistic regression. Independent MI predictors was revealed.Results. The postoperative IM incidence rate amounted to 1,61 [0,67-1,76]%. MI was more frequently diagnosed in men than women (0,29%), and after pneumonectomy (3,92%) compared with less operative extent (0,37%). MI was associated with comorbidities, smoking intensity, right pneumonectomy, preoperative increase in white blood cells, neutrophils and monocytes, blood loss volume, surgery duration, postoperative heart rate, preoperative decrease in serum total protein, postoperative haemoglobin, haematocrit, red blood cells decrease, and intraoperative blood pressure (BP). By means of multivariate logistic regression, the following factors with most accurate MI prediction were established: postoperative heart rate (OR, 4,06 [95% CI 1,58-10,43]), Sokolow-Lyon index (OR, 1,54 [95% CI 1,14-2,07]), ACS-NSQIP value for cardiac complications (OR, 3,86 [95% CI 1,36-10,92]), preoperative serum total protein (OR, 0,17 [95% CI 0,040,71]) and white blood cells (CR 1,54 [95% CI 1,03-2,31]), minimal intraoperative systolic BP (OR, 0,35 [95% CI 0,15-0,83]).Conclusion. Postoperative MI incidence in lung cancer patients accounts for 1,61%. Following independent predictors for postoperative MI were established: Sokolow-Lyon index, preoperative serum total protein and leukocytes levels, ACS-NSQIP value, minimal intraoperative systolic BP and postoperative heart rate.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of passive music therapy on anxiety and vital signs among lung cancer patients at their first peripherally inserted central catheter placement procedure in China. Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted in the cancer center of a hospital in Chengdu from May to December 2017. A total of 304 lung cancer patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited and randomly assigned to experimental ( n = 152) and control ( n = 152) group, respectively. The control group only received standard care, while the experimental group received standard care and passive music therapy during peripherally inserted central catheter placement (30–45 min) and after catheterization, until discharged from the hospital (twice a day, 30 min once). Measures include anxiety and vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate). Results: Repetitive measurement and analysis of variance showed that the patients in experimental group had a statistically significant decrease in anxiety, diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate over time compared to the control group, but no significant difference was identified in systolic blood pressure and respiratory rate. Conclusion: Passive music therapy can efficiently relieve the anxiety of lung cancer patients during peripherally inserted central catheter placement. It also can lower the patient’s diastolic blood pressure and slow down the heart rate. So, music therapy benefits patients with peripherally inserted central catheter.

ABSTRACTBlood samples were taken from three Brahman × Friesian cattle while they walked for 1 h daily on a treadmill pulling 20 or 25 kg weights suspended in a cage. Heart rate and energy expenditure during work were closely correlated. The work had no significant effect on blood levels of red cells, haemoglobin, packed cell volume, total protein, albumin, glycerol, urea, Mg, Ca, Na, K and chloride. White blood cells, glucose, lactate, free fatty acids, P-hydroxybutyrate and inorganic phosphate were affected by work although the changes were shortlived and values had returned to resting levels 75 min after work finished. The changes were similar in each animal and indicated work done by draught cattle is largely at a submaximal level. Apart from lactate no blood parameters were identified that could be usefully used to compare performance.

Some hematological values, blood total protein, protein fractions, and minerals such as calcium and phosphorus of takhi, which are now being reintroduced in Khustain natural park, were measured. There were 8.3 million red blood cells and 8000 white blood cells in 1 mm3 whole blood of takhi reintroduced in Khustain natural park, and hemoglobin was 179.6±3.2 g/l. As well, total proteins, calcium and phosphorus of takhi were 67± 0.6 g/l, 2.1±0.31 mmol/l, and 1.1±0.2 mmol/l respectively and they were similar to those in Mongolian horses. Abstract BACKGROUND Reference intervals are vital for interpretation of laboratory results. Many existing reference intervals for cerebrospinal fluid total protein (CSF-TP) are derived from old literature because of the invasive nature of sampling. The objective of this study was to determine reference intervals for CSF-TP using available patient data. METHODS Twenty years of hospital database information was mined for previously reported CSF-TP results. Associated demographic, laboratory, and clinical diagnosis (International Classification of Diseases 9/10 codes) details were extracted. CSF-TP results included 3 different analytical platforms: the Siemens Vista 1500, Beckman Lx20, and Roche Hitachi 917. From an initial data set of 19591 samples, the following exclusion criteria were applied: incomplete data, white blood cells (WBCs) >5 × 106/L, red blood cells (RBCs) >50 × 106/L, and glucose <2.5 mmol/L. Patient charts were reviewed in detail to exclude 60 different conditions for which increases in CSF-TP would be expected. A total of 6068 samples were included; 63% of the samples were from females. Continuous reference intervals were determined using quantile regression. Age- and sex-partitioned intervals were established using the quantile regression equation and splitting age-groups into 5-year bins. RESULTS CSF-TP showed a marked age dependence, and males had significantly higher CSF-TP than females across all ages. CSF-TP results from the 3 different instruments and manufacturers showed small (approximately 0.04 g/L), but statistically significant, differences. CSF-TP showed weak, but again statistically significant, correlation with WBC and RBC but was independent of serum total protein and creatinine. CONCLUSIONS The age dependence of CSF-TP supports that age-partitioned reference intervals will be more accurate than a single cutoff, particularly in patients with advancing age.
