Long-term energy saving and reduction of environmental consequences of energy consuming are among the most challenging objectives of our time. People are prone to routine and habit. To change these habits is almost a Sisif’s work. In spite of continuous efforts from environmental specialists, we are witnessing an increase in electricity (and gas) consumption, at least at the level of households. Studies carried on have shown that consumers have in many cases an irrational behaviour. To correct that, researchers are studying consumers’ decision making behaviour and try several intervention measures. In our paper we are presenting the design and development of a web based adaptive system aimed to educate citizens for an electrical energy saving behaviour. The system is composed of three subsystems: adaptation system, user’s profile and knowledge base. We have used a user-centered design approach. For adults, users’ profiles are build taking into account age group, educational level, gender, income, professional aspects, consuming behaviour. A set of questionnaires have been designed in order to collect users’ data. For children, the standard profiles are more complicated and, in function of the age group, can be obtained off line through interviews or/and through online activities (games, quizzes etc.). The knowledge base is build for the electrical energy domain. The adaptation sub-system will present information to the user based on s/he profile. The system is populated with data for users of 6 to 10 years of age. For this users group a social and affective interaction design approach was used.

AbstractIn the healthcare domain, head-mounted displays (HMDs) with augmented reality (AR) modalities have been reconsidered for application as a result of commercially available products and the needs for using computers in mobile context. Within a user-centered design approach, interviews were conducted with physicians, nursing staff and members of emergency medical services. Additionally practitioners were involved in evaluating two different head-mounted displays. Based on these measures, use cases and usability considerations according to interaction design and information visualization were derived and are described in this contribution.

The poster explores the history of vertical forest-buildings, with a case study of Milan urban vertical forest. Integration of IoT sensors, web applications, and trackers is proposed. The integrated technology architecture will increase the efficiency of the vertical forest building. The enhancement of air quality, carbon sequestration, and sustainability; is achieved through improved green walls for biofiltration. Cost and energy saving estimates are mentioned.

Business Placement Center help manage the website for the needs of alumnus one of them is to provide information on a vacancy. The alumnus website’s provides information about job vacancy. The website still need the support to facilitate the searching all the features the work in accordance with what the use. The method of user centered design to make it easy for users in the use of the existing facilities at the website while searching for information a vacancy and users play an important role in any proses UCD. User Centered Design approach is expected to produce the interface and functionality maximal built in the system so that in accordance with the need of users. Research methodology was by observation, interviews and quesionnaires to find out the need of users. Analysis and design using UCD approach and implementation of the system. The results of research is users feel comfortable with a display interface of website which have been built, the information is easily understood and menu features has been successfully run a function.

Lockdowns put in place in response to the COVID-19 health crisis have changed daily functioning for families and potentially the emotional experience of individuals in their parenting role. Our study aimed to highlight the importance of the environmental consequences associated with lockdowns on parental burnout. We compared data on parental burnout levels from two French samples: the first collected in 2018 ( N = 1332) and the second collected during the last month of lockdown ( N = 522). Our results show that parents included during the lockdown period reported significantly, but slightly, higher saturation (a dimension of the parental burnout construct) than parents included 2 years earlier. However, the number of children per age group, maintaining employment, and having to provide schooling at home are not variables that explain differences in the level of parental burnout between our two samples. Our results are discussed with regard to the risk factors identified and the French context.

Cloud computing is a new emerging paradigm which delivers an infrastructure, platform and software as services in a pay-as-you-go model. However, with the development of cloud computing, the large-scale data centers consume huge amounts of electrical energy resulting in high operational costs and environment problem. Nevertheless, existing energy-saving algorithms based on live migration don’t consider the migration energy consumption, and most of which are designed for homogeneous cloud environment. In this paper, we take the first step to model energy consumption in heterogeneous cloud environment with migration energy consumption. Based on this energy model, we design energy-saving Best fit decreasing (ESBFD) algorithm and energy-saving first fit decreasing (ESFFD) algorithm. We further provide results of several experiments using traces from PlanetLab in CloudSim. The experiments show that the proposed algorithms can effectively reduce the energy consumption of data center in the heterogeneous cloud environment compared to existing algorithms like NEA, DVFS, ST (Single Threshold) and DT (Double Threshold).
