Regarding human resources, issues included: ignorance of the operation of the mental health network and of the activities performed, medical turnover, deficiency in training and continuous education and professional devaluation. It is necessary to reflect on the real role of ambulatories within the mental health network and its effectiveness in providing care.

ABSTRACT Objective: to report the experience in the structuring and managing process of a specific unit for COVID-19, highlighting the role of nurses in decision-making. Method: an experience report on the creation and management of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) unit, in March 2020, in 2020, in a philanthropic hospital of the state of Santa Catarina. Results: the unit was structured with 10 intensive care beds and 20 infirmary beds. Meetings were held to make decisions, as well as to create protocols and flows with active participation of the nurse. In questions related to direct assistance, adaptations were developed in the nursing process performed at the hospital and the organization of new flows and routines. The physical space was structured, considering the high risk of transmissibility for the disease. Professionals were hired with staffing readjustment according to the complexity of the service, making up a team of professionals with experience in critical care. There were trainings for developing knowledge and skills prior to the first cases, which were systematically maintained. In addition, it was observed that the nurses were concerned about the mental health of the professionals working in this unit and, therefore, support actions were programmed. Conclusion: the foundation in the scientific evidence and recommendations of the competent bodies at the world and national levels for the structuring of the COVID-19 unit is emphasized. The role of the nurse in all the interfaces stands out, assuming a fundamental role from the composition of the commissions, going through the planning and functioning of the physical structure, management of human resources, and construction of care protocols and flows, in addition to acting directly in the care provided.

Although a number of studies have evaluated reform in commitment proceedings, these have been subject to criticism for failing to conduct a comprehensive examination and/or allow for a reasonable amount of time for the reform to be implemented. The objective of this study was to address these concerns by examining the patterns and trends of a J 975 reform on civil commitment in Dane County, Wisconsin. Utilizing a “before and after” research design, the findings suggest that the implementation of reform is specific to certain areas and varies by the year(s) assessed. The role of the mental health network and the restructuring of the financial responsibility for mental health services are seen as pivotal in why reform was more or less successful.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the care to the child and the adolescent in treatment in the general hospital for mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of psychoactive substances, from the perspective of the Nursing. Method: evaluative study, of the case study type, with the use of the theoretical-methodological reference of the Fourth Generation Evaluation. The group of interest was composed of 19 professionals of the Nursing team of a Unit allocated in a general and teaching hospital of the West of Paraná. Data were collected from June 2015 to February 2016 through 410 hours of non-participant observation, individual interviews, following the hermeneutic-dialectical circle and a negotiation meeting. Data analysis was performed using the Constant Comparative Method. Results: three categories emerged from the analysis: nursing care for children and adolescents, Potential care and Fragility in care. the interest group reported a differentiated care of the other units of the institution, expressing the concern to care in a global and humanized way. They pointed out the development of meetings of agreement between the scenario of the study and the municipalities as one of the facilities for the care and, as greater fragility, the lack of physical space. Conclusion: It is hoped that the results of this study may instigate and provide critical reflection of professionals who develop their practice with children and adolescents who use or abuse psychoactive substance in the various health treatment services.

ABSTRACT Objective: evaluate how the crack user is portrayed by the media. Method: qualitative study, using fourth generation evaluation. The data were collected in interviews and field observations in a mental health network service of the Porto Alegre-RS metropolitan area. The participants were 10 users, 11 family members, 08 health service professionals and 07 managers. Results: the findings revealed that media relates the crack user profile to violence, crime and disease, which does not correspond to the reality experienced in the health service. This image disregards the different ways of using the drug and the different productions of life of these individuals, increasing social exclusion and stigma. Final considerations: The challenge is to build shared, integrated, clear and honest information.

According to the straight-line theory of assimilation, ethnic groups by the third or fourth generation should be entirely assimilated into mainstream society and should identify themselves as “Americans.” Yet there has been a resurgence of ethnicity among white ethnics in the United States that has led to a renewed interest in particular ethnic groups and their cultures. Third- and fourth-generation European Americans claim an ethnic identity even though their ties to their ancestral homeland may be tenuous. Lithuanian Americans in Kansas City, Kansas, in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s would seem to provide support for the straight-line theory of assimilation, yet since the 1980s they have reconstituted themselves through the Lithuanians of America organization and are experiencing a renewal of their ethnic identity. The Lithuanian American community in Seattle, Washington, also experienced ebbs and flows in the activism and unity of its members. The community was active at the turn of the twentieth century, next revitalized by Lithuanian emigres following World War II, and then became active again in the late 1970s after a decade of inaction. Members of the two groups were given questionnaires in the early 1990s to address the ethnic identity fluctuations as well as the role of non-ethnics in the organizations. One of the more exciting findings from the surveys and from participant observation was the extensive role of “ethnic converts” in the Kansas City organization, and their lesser (but still significant) role in the Seattle Lithuanian-American community.
