ABSTRACT Objective: understand elderly care dynamics of an emergency care unit. Method: this is a case study evaluation, using a qualitative approach and the theoretical-methodological reference of a fourth generation evaluation. Data collection was conducted between February and September 2017, through 460 hours of participant observation, interviews with 33 social actors among health professionals, elderly people and their relatives of an emergency care unit located in a municipality in the northwest of Paraná, as well as negotiation meetings with participants. Results: the evaluation showed the elderly care dynamics is mainly influenced by nursing actions that articulate care practices based on priority, frailty, autonomy, independence and family context of the elderly patients. Final considerations: an evaluation of how the emergency care unit operates helps improve elderly care in urgent and emergency services.

Regarding human resources, issues included: ignorance of the operation of the mental health network and of the activities performed, medical turnover, deficiency in training and continuous education and professional devaluation. It is necessary to reflect on the real role of ambulatories within the mental health network and its effectiveness in providing care.

The elderly are the last stages of human development. In this condition, the elderly often suffer physical decline that may have little effect on their psychological conditions, including anxiety. The study deals with the dynamics of anxiety experienced by the elderly during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study is qualitative with a case study approach. The excavated aspects are somatic, cognitive, emotional and behavioural. The study involved three participants in the age span of 55-65. Participant 1 was 60 years old, participant 2 was 62 years old, participant 3 was 63 years old. The data-mining techniques of this study use one-meeting interviews with each participant. Observation and documentation are also used for gaining in-depth data. Data analysis techniques use driven theory and data triangulation to check the credibility of data. The results of this study indicate that the three participants experienced anxiety because of a news release about Covid-19. The suggestion from this study is to provide more attention and information to the elderly during the Covid-19 pandemic. Keywords: anxiety, elderly, covid-19

ABSTRACT Objective: To develop educational technology with caregivers of older people based on the needs, difficulties and concerns related to the elderly care expressed by the caregivers themselves. Method: Research of qualitative nature, with participant observation, based on concepts used by Paulo Freire. Data collection and analysis used the “World Cafe” methodology and the thematic content analysis, respectively. Result: The needs of these caregivers refer to their training and information on aging. The difficulties highlighted are deterrents to quality assistance to older adults, such as: insufficient resources, environmental factor and relationship with the family. The interests are evident in relation to the care and to its more subjective relationship. Final considerations: Educational technologies, printed matter and media, developed along with the caregivers, contribute to orientation and information of caregiver, population and professionals as facilitating instruments, regarding elderly care.

This article analyses to what extent the forms of hire in the elderly care sector, as defined by recent Spanish law, enable this work to be professionalised. Using a qualitative piece of research based on semi-structured interviews with a variety of social actors involved in the social organisation of care, we embark on the comparative study of those types of hire that have been particularly affected by the legal changes: private hire by families and the Home Help Service. Our conclusion is that in domestic environments, the physical, emotional and moral aspects that characterise care pose specific barriers to professionalisation and these impact most notably on the special vulnerabilities of migrants employed in domestic care. The high expectations raised by the new legislation about the sector’s professionalisation have failed to be realised.
