Objective: to analyze the burnout dimensions scores in Brazilian and Spanish nursing workers. Method: quantitative, cross-sectional and comparative study conducted with 589 Nursing workers who answered the Sociodemographic and Professional Characterization Questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Descriptive and analytical analysis of the data was performed. Results: Spanish Nursing workers presented higher averages in the Depersonalization dimension (p = 0.004) and Brazilians, higher scores in the Professional Achievement dimension (p = 0.031). In both Spain and Brazil, nursing assistants / technicians were found to have higher Emotional Exhaustion than nurses; In Brazil, Depersonalization is higher in nurses and in Spain it is higher in Nursing assistants / technicians. Statistically significant results were found in the association of burnout dimensions with sociodemographic and work characteristics: age; professional category; workplace; work regime; work shift; time of professional experience; working time in the same workplace and consider stressful work. Conclusion: Although Brazilian and Spanish nursing workers score low levels of Depersonalization and high Professional Achievement, there are average levels of Emotional Exhaustion, indicating an important preventive factor to be worked on, since Emotional Exhaustion is considered the first stage of burnout.

Objective: To gauge the prevalence of burnout among postgraduate trainees and consultants working in psychiatry department, Services Hospital Lahore, Pakistan. Methods: 31 trainee and consultant psychiatrists in Services Hospital Lahore, Pakistan participated in this cross-sectional study. Abbreviated Maslach Burnout Inventory (aMBI) measured burnout. It consisted of 9 items, relating to emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment. Each item is scored on a seven-point Likert scale. For Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization, higher scores predicted greater burnout; Personal Accomplishment demonstrated the opposite, hence its scores were inverted. Participants with moderate scores in 2 or more dimensions were identified as suffering from burnout syndrome. Data was analyzed by SPSS 25.0. Result: Mean age of participants was 34.87 ± 8.06 years. 52% were female. 58% were consultants, with average experience of 7 years; 61% practiced in more than one place. 32.3% of participants had burnout syndrome. Emotional Exhaustion subscale showed the highest scores i.e. 7.06 ± 3.43. 71% of participants demonstrated moderate or high burnout in this scale. Average Depersonalization score was 2.94 ± 2.42, while that for Personal Accomplishment was 3.29 ± 2.25. Conclusion: A significant portion of the sample reported moderate and high level of emotional exhaustion. On the contrary, we found low levels of depersonalization in the sample. Most psychiatrists reported adequate levels of personal achievement. These results are reassuring because, despite the presence of emotional burnout, psychiatrists still have capacity to empathize and provide adequate patient care. Objective: to verify the prevalence of symptoms of Burnout syndrome in physical therapists who teach at a public university in Belém-PA, using the Maslach questionnaire. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study carried out with 25 physiotherapists, professors at the State University of Pará in the city of Belém-PA. For data collection, the Maslach Questionnaire (Maslach Burnout Inventory) was used, composed of 22 statements about feelings and attitudes that encompass the three fundamental aspects of Burnout syndrome, divided into three scales of seven points, with a score from 0 to 6, related to emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and professional and personal fulfillment. All data were digitized and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program. Results: Regarding emotional exhaustion, 56% of teachers had a high level; 24% moderate and 20% low. The average was 25 points, indicating moderate emotional exhaustion. In depersonalization 44% had a high level; 20% moderate and 36% low, with an average at the threshold of the moderate to low level of 6.8 points. Regarding personal and professional fulfillment, 48% had a high level; 12% moderate and 40% low. The average was 38.12 points, at the threshold of the moderate to the low level. Conclusion: The sample presented a moderate level of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and professional and personal achievement, such data are suggestive for the development of Burnout Syndrome. Thus, the importance of carrying out more research is emphasized in order to expand knowledge and subsidize resolutive actions for the topic in question.

Background: Burnout syndrome occurs in people who work in jobs which involve frequent and intense contact with people, especially healthcare workers. High dependency departments such as critical care units are very stressful environments, and this can lead to a greater incidence of burnout, especially of emotional exhaustion and poor personal accomplishment. Nurses are the largest group of healthcare workers, and so it is reasonable to expect they would have a high prevalence of burnout.Subjects and methods: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of burnout in critical care nurses in Croatia and explore its association with demographic features. A cross-sectional study of 620 nurses was conducted in several university hospitals, using convenience sampling. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was administered, together with questions about the sociodemographic and work characteristics of the participants (age, gender, length of work in ICU, education, type of ICU).Results: The majority of the sample were female nursing staff (87.7%), aged 26-35 (38.9%). The results showed that approximately every fifth nurse (22.1%) expressed a high emotional exhaustion (EE), with lesser burden of a high depersonalisation (D) in 7.9%, yet every third nurse (34.5%) scored low on PA. Male nurses reported more depersonalisation (p=0.045), yet neither EE nor the PA dimensions differed by gender.Conclusion: The results of this study concerning burnout are comparable to those of studies of other professions, but the results vary with regard to the sample and the working conditions of the countries.

Introduction: Burnout is a complex psychoemotional construct defined by three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and feeling of diminished personal achievement. It occurs in professionals who work in direct contact with other people. Healthcare professions are classified as the most endangered, with employees in psychiatric institutions being at the top of the pyramid of risk for the development of professional burnout. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of job burnout among psychiatric nurses, as well as to examine the correlation of sociodemographic factors with burnout syndrome. Methodology: A non-experimental cross-sectional correlation study was conducted on a sample of 70 nurses employed at the Institute of Mental Health in Belgrade. The study instruments were the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), and the sociodemographic data questionnaire specially designed for this research. Results and discussion: The results show that 34.3% of in the ob-served sample show moderate or severe symptoms of burnout in the domain of emotional exhaustion, in 14.3% of them was registered moderate or severe burnout manifestations in the domain of depersonalization, and 68.6% show of study participants showed moderate or high level of burnout in the personal achievement domain. Correlation analysis of respondents' sociodemographic characteristics with burnout manifestations confirms that depersonalization is statistically significantly associated with mar-ital status (p=0.036). In addition, there is a correlation between emotional exhaustion and education level (ch2-9,431; p=0.051), age of respondents (ch2 =17,802; p=0.023) and length of service (ch2=17,213; p=0.028). Conclusion: Considering the individual and social consequences of job burnout, it is important to identify risk groups among nurses employed in psychiatry institutions, in order to preserve and improve mental health, as well as improve the quality of provided health services.

Objectives: This study aims to identify the prevalence of burnout and associated factors in Brazilian medical students. Methods: In the largest medical school from Central Brazil, the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey and a socio-demographic questionnaire were adopted in this cross-sectional study. Correlations among the three dimensions of burnout were verified. Results: The evaluation of 399 students revealed a frequency of 12.0% of burnout. Women had a higher rate of burnout (8.0%) than men (4.0%). The fifth period had the higher frequency of burnout (27.1%), while the seventh grade had the lower frequency (2.1%). The students showed high scores only in emotional exhaustion (63.2%). Between the dimensions “emotional exhaustion” and “disbelief” found a significant correlation. Conclusion: The fifth period of the Medicine course and the female gender are the most affected by burnout syndrome and therefore, the preventive actions to reduce stress among medical students should be directed mainly at these higher risk categories. The low burnout rate found in our study can attest that the PBL methodology and medical schools strategically located to meet regional demand may represent strategies for the prevention of burnout among medical students.

Abstract Background Burnout is prevalent among medical students. Throughout their training, medical students face many psychosocial stresses that, if not managed, might cause burnout syndrome. Burnout could negatively impact students’ life and their academic performance. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of burnout among medical students at the College of Medicine, University of Kerbala, and assess factors associated with it. An analytic cross-sectional study. A sample of 424 students from all academic years from the College of Medicine, University of Kerbala, was approached. Data collection was conducted from June 11 to July 3, 2020, through a self-administered online questionnaire based on the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey (MBI-SS). The MBI-SS included 15 questions with a 7-point rating ranging from 0 (never) to 6 (always). The tool measures three subscales: emotional exhaustion (5 questions), Cynicism (4 questions), and professional efficacy (6 questions). Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program version 24 was used for data analysis. Binary logistic regression was used to assess the association between burnout and students̓ variables, P value of a level < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results The prevalence of burnout syndrome among medical students was 38.2%. About 85.6% of students had high emotional exhaustion, 77.8% had high cynicism, and 32.5% exhibited low professional efficacy. Female gender, regular use of legal substances, and family history of mental diseases were associated with significantly high rates of burnout. Conclusions Burnout is prevalent among medical students of the University of Kerbala with quite high levels of emotional exhaustion and cynicism and lower professional efficacy levels. Faculties of medicine need to consider burnout among their students and works to reduce unnecessary stresses by modifying and upgrading the educational and clinical environments.

Objective: To find out the frequency of burnout syndrome among health care providers and its association with gender and work setup Methodology: It was a cross sectional studyinvolving 272 health care providersby convenient sampling, working in government hospitals and private hospitals. Level of Burnout was assessed by Maslach Burnout inventory (MBI). Data was analyzed by SPSS v.25. p-value ≤ 0.05 was considered as significant Results: The mean score of emotional exhaustion, cynicism and professional proficiency were 17.85±7.2, 19.32± 9.3 and 28.39±9.8 respectively. Males had more emotional exhaustion and cynicism burnout as compared to females but the results were insignificant. Professional proficiency burnout was significantly higher in females. In type of work setup, results were statistically significant for emotional exhaustion and professional proficiency. There was more burnout among health care providers working in private work setup. Conclusion: According to levels of burnout high level of cynicism and professional proficiency, and moderate level emotional exhaustion burnout were present among health care providers. Professional proficiency was significantly associated with gender and work setup while emotional exhaustion was significantly associated with work setup. AbstractObjective:Burnout syndrome is a work-related professional distress. Palliative care physicians often have to deal with complex end-of-life situations and are at risk of presenting with burnout syndrome, which has been little studied in this population. Our study aims to identify the impact of clinical settings (in a palliative care unit (PCU) or on a palliative care mobile team (PCMT)) on palliative care physicians.Method:We undertook a cross-sectional study using a questionnaire that included the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and we gathered sociodemographic and professional data. The questionnaire was sent to all 590 physicians working in palliative care in France between July of 2012 and February of 2013.Results:The response rate was 61, 8% after three reminders. Some 27 (9%) participants showed high emotional exhaustion, 12 (4%) suffered from a high degree of depersonalization, and 71 (18%) had feelings of low personal accomplishment. Physicians working on a PCMT tended (p = 0.051) to be more likely to suffer from emotional exhaustion than their colleagues. Physicians working on a PCMT worked on smaller teams (fewer physicians, p < 0.001; fewer nonphysicians, p < 0.001). They spent less time doing research (p = 0.019), had fewer resources (p = 0.004), and their expertise seemed to be underrecognized by their colleagues (p = 0.023).Significance of Results:The prevalence of burnout in palliative care physicians was low and in fact lower than that reported in other populations (e.g., oncologists). Working on a palliative care mobile team can be a more risky situation, associated with a lack of medical and paramedical staff.

Objetivo: El objetivo general de esta investigación es medir la prevalencia del síndrome de burnout en el colectivo profesional de trabajadoras sociales sanitarias que ejercen su actividad laboral en los diferentes servicios y centros del Servicio Público de Salud de Galicia (España).Método: Se ha planteado un diseño de enfoque cuantitativo-analítico y transversal, utilizando como instrumento principal el cuestionario Maslach Burnout Inventory, versión Human Services Suvey. Dicho cuestionario mide tres dimensiones relacionadas con el burnout: Agotamiento emocional, Despersonalización y Realización personal. La recogida de datos se realizó a través de una aplicación de encuestas entre las trabajadoras sociales colegiadas en el Colegio Oficial de Trabajo Social de Galicia.Resultados: El 86,2% de la población objeto de estudio son mujeres y un 13,8% hombres, y sus edades están comprendidas entre los 23 y los 63 años. Los datos de prevalencia del estudio arrojan unos resultados elevados, especialmente en la dimensión de Agotamiento Emocional donde más de la mitad de la población objeto de estudio presenta una puntuación considerada alta.Conclusión: Al igual que otros colectivos profesionales que ejercen su actividad laboral en el sistema de salud, como es el caso de Enfermería y Medicina, las trabajadoras sociales sanitarias presentan índices elevados de burnout, siendo el Agotamiento Emocional la dimensión más afectada. Objective: The general goal of this research is to measure the prevalence of the burnout syndrome in the professional group of social health workers who perform their work in the diverse services and centers of the Public Health Service of Galicia (Spain).Method: A quantitative-analytical and cross-sectional design was proposed, using as the main instrument the Maslach Burnout Inventory, Human Services Survey version. This inventory measures three dimensions related to burnout: Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Personal Fulfillment. Data collection was carried out through a survey among the social workers registered in the Official Association of Social Work of Galicia.Results: 86.2% of the population under study are women and 13.8% are men; their ages range between 23 and 63 years. The study prevalence data yields high scores, especially in the Emotional Exhaustion dimension, where more than half of the population under study obtained a high score.Conclusion: Like other professional groups that perform their work in the health system, as is the case of Nursing and Medicine, social health workers present high rates of burnout, with Emotional Exhaustion being the most affected dimension.

Resumo: Estudo descritivo-exploratório, transversal, com amostra de 33 enfermeiros, objetivou verificar a ocorrência da síndrome de burnout em enfermeirosatuantes em unidade de terapia intensiva. Foram aplicados questionários dos dados sociodemográficos e o Maslach Burnout Inventory. Dosparticipantes, 43% apresentaram baixo nível de exaustão emocional, 52% baixo nível de despersonalização, 49% demonstraram satisfação moderadano trabalho e em 6% foi diagnosticado o burnout.
