SUMMARY OBJECTIVES To review the literature and the diagnosis of conventional histopathological routine and immunohistochemistry of the cases diagnosed with Solid Pseudopapillary Neoplasm of the Pancreas (SPNP). METHODS The review of the literature was done using the Pubmed and solid Google-Scholar databases, through the historical, clinical aspects and diagnostic methods of SPNP. The review of SPNP cases diagnosed in the University Hospital Clementino Fraga Filho was carried out from 1977 to 2018. RESULTS Intratumoral phenotypic heterogeneity of SPNP was evidenced in the cases studied, taking into account macroscopic, microscopic, and immunohistochemical patterns. CONCLUSIONS The results show the importance of the examination of several fragments obtained from different regions of the neoplasia since not all of them present the same molecular alterations.

Neurosyphilis accounts for 56%-70% of all visceral syphilis and is a complication in 5%-10% of cases of untreated syphilis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological aspects and clinical presentations of neurosyphilis in Morocco through a series of 201 patients attending the Centre for Neurological Services at the university hospital in Rabat between 1986 and 1997. The mean age of the patients was 41.26 [SD 9.23] years [range:17-70 years] ; the majority [91%] were male. The incidence of neurosyphilis in Morocco is high. From 31 cases per year in 1985, it has fallen since 1990 to reach 10 cases in 1997. Among the different clinical presentations recorded, chronic meningoencepahalitis was the commonest, followed by meningovasculitis, tabes dorsalis and optic atrophy

Objectives. The aim of this study was to analyze the epidemiological and clinical aspects of chronic otitis media and its therapeutic processes in our context. Patients and Methods. In a prospective study over a period of 1 year (March 2009–February 2010), 79 patients with chronic otitis media have been cared for in the otolaryngology ward of the University Hospital of Ouagadougou. Results. Chronic otitis media (COM) commonly occurs in the age group from 0 to 15 years (40.50%). Otorrhea was the main reason for consultation in 53 cases (67.10%); the most frequently encountered clinicopathological forms were simple COM (71%) followed by otitis media with effusion (24.30%). Intra-auricular instillations of traditional products (46.09%) were the dominant favoring factor. Treatment was essentially through medication in 59 cases with a stabilization of lesions. Endotemporal complications were noticed in 6 cases. Conclusion. The fight against chronic otitis media is carried out through preventive measures of education the of people.

The aim of the study is to summarize the current state of knowlege in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with alveolar echinococcosis (AE), using serological tests and imaging techniques, and to present the most recent therapeutic guidelines based on a literature review. The paper discusses the challenges in diagnosing and treating AE encountered in clinical practice in Poland, based on the analysis of medical records of 86 patients with AE, who were hospitalized in the University Centre for Maritime and Tropical Medicine (UCMTM) between 2000 and 2018. In Poland, AE is usually diagnosed at the advanced stage, when optimal, radical surgery is not an option. Diagnosis of AE is often preceded by invasive diagnostic methods, such as biopsy or exploratory laparotomy, which may result in the infection spreading. Pharmacological treatment is associated with potential adverse effects and is a significant financial burden for the patient due to the lack of reimbursement. There is a need to raise the awareness of AE among physicians performing imaging studies and to facilitate access to modern techniques enabling the assessment of the parasitic process.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the larynx is very rare, with only a few individual cases or studies in small patient groups reported in the literature. Treatment modalities for this type of carcinoma are not uniform; in addition, errors in the recognition and pathologic diagnosis are not uncommon. During the period 1991–2000, 771 cases of malignant laryngeal tumours were recorded and histologically verified at the University Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery, Zagreb University Hospital Centre, three of them were mucoepidermoid supraglottic carcinomas. The experience acquired in the treatment of these tumours is presented along with a review of the literature.

Summary Food allergy is an immunoglobulin E-meditated reaction, to which the organism’s immune system reacts to a food allergen, recognizing it as harmful. The study aimed to establish at what age cow’s milk protein allergy is manifested and determine the values of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and hemoglobin(Hb) in children with CMPA in Pleven region, Bulgaria. The study included 94 infants presenting with clinical manifestations of food allergy (age range 0 to 12 months) from Pleven and Pleven region, consulted in 2017 by a pediatrician at the University Hospital Consulting Center in Pleven. Venous blood was collected to determine the IgE and Hb values. Chronic iron-deficiency anemia could be the only clinical manifestation in children with CMPA. Out of all the children with CMPA, 17% had a pronounced anemic syndrome. The rest had normal Hb values. Anemic syndrome could have severe consequences for a growing child. Elevated IgE values were found in 73% of the children tested. CMPA is frequently seen in infants. Early diagnosis of clinical manifestations and diet could prevent severe complications of allergy such as chronic diarrhea, chronic urticaria, and asthma.
