ABSTRACT The low reliability of evaporation estimates in reservoirs challenges the management of water resources, especially when drought occurs. The evaporation rates measured in buried tanks (20 m2 evaporimeters) are close to that of lakes. However, there are few studies in Brazil using long data sets with this type of tank. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate evaporation estimates of free water surface using the method of Penman (1948) and other five empirical equations in comparison with data from a 20 m2 tank observed during 10 years. The annual relationship between rainfall and evaporation was 1.0, showing variations in dry years (0.7) and rainy years (1.3). Among all evaluated methods, Linacre (1993) shows the best performance. Camargo et al. (1999) has very good estimates using air temperature as input variable and is a simple and reliable alternative when data are missing.

ABSTRAK Limbah cair tahu merupakan limbah cair yang berasal dari proses pembuatan tahu. Limbah cair tahu mengandung senyawa organik yang tinggi. Pembuangan limbah cair tahu secara langsung ke badan air tanpa dilakukan pengolahan dapat mempengaruhi dan mencemari lingkungan. Suatu cara untuk menanggulangi permasalahan tersebut adalah melakukan pengolahan limbah cair tahu. Salah satu alternatif pengolahan limbah cair tahu yang dapat digunakan adalah fitoremediasi menggunakan tanaman genjer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efisiensi pengolahan dan efektivitas waktu tinggal pengolahan limbah cair tahu menggunakan tanaman genjer dalam menurunkan BOD dan COD effluen hasil proses pengolahan anaerob limbah cair tahu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah fitoremediasi menggunakan tanaman genjer pada sistem lahan basah buatan Free Water Surface flow dengan waktu tinggal 3 hari, 5 hari dan 7 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi pengolahan secara fitoremediasi pada hari ke 3 untuk BOD dan COD berturut-turut sebesar 21,28% dan 16,13%. Pada hari ke 5 efisiensi pengolahan yang diperoleh untuk BOD dan COD berturut-turut sebesar 52,60% dan 45,93% sedangkan efisiensi pengolahan pada hari ke 7 untuk BOD dan COD berturut-turut sebesar 76,42% dan 70,74%. Waktu tinggal efektif yang diperoleh pada penelitian ini adalah  7 hari dengan nilai BOD dan COD telah berada dibawah baku mutu yaitu berturut-turut sebesar 72,72 mg/l dan 213,33 mg/l.   Kata kunci : limbah cair tahu, fitoremediasi, tanaman genjer, efisiensi pengolahan, waktu tinggal

It is known that the flow condition in the pump sump is very complicated, which usually performs as several types of vortex, water wave of free surface, vibration, noise, and etc. To make clear the flow condition experimentally and numerically is very important to develop the performance and operating stability of the pump station. As one of the projects with Hitachi Industries ltd. Co., Japan, the investigation experimentally on the internal flow condition of the pump sump has been carried out in Tsinghua University. In this paper, we introduce the simulation results, which can show more detail information near the intake of the pump sump. The simulation is focused on the area near the intake, together with the extension of up-stream and down-stream. The calculation research includes two parts: steady simulation and unsteady simulation by VOF model, which is provided by the commercial software of Fluent. Through the steady simulation, the distribution of free water surface (water height) near the intake, as well as the flow condition inside the intake, were obtained. Comparing with the experimental data, a good agreement was observed. After analyzing the unsteady calculation results by VOF, four stages of the development of air-entraining vortex, and the wave characteristic of free water surface, were obtained, which were in accord with the experiment visualizing.
