Severe gully erosion on spoil dumps, caused by dense concentrated flow derived from platforms, poses a significant threat to the land management of mining areas. However, little is known about the development processes and mechanisms of gullies on spoil dumps. A flow scouring experiment was conducted on an established platform–slope system under 3.6–5.04 m3 h−1. The soils of the system consisted of a surface sandy loam A layer and anunderlying clay loam B layer. The results showed that the platform exhibited a gully development process of headcut-incision–headcut-expansion–stabilization and the steep slope experienced gully development of A-layer incision–A-layer expansion–B-layer incision–stabilization. The results showed 88.97–100% of Froude Number (Fr) decrement and 47.90–88.97% of Darcy–Weisbach roughness coefficient increment finished in the two incision stages on the steep slope. Gully depth has the most sensitive response to flow hydraulics. A significant linear correlation exists between gully depth and shear stress, runoff power, Fr, and Reynolds Number (R2 > 0.337). Overall, the optimal hydraulic indicator varies within different stages for describing the gully morphology development, illustrating the different action mechanism between flow hydraulics and gully morphology. Our findings provide a theoretical support for future mechanistic studies of gully erosion and the land management on spoil dump.

Abstract Background Intestinal neutrophil recruitment is a characteristic feature of the earliest stages of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Neutrophil elastase (NE) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) mediate the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs); NETs produce the bactericidal oxidant hypochlorous acid (HOCl), causing host tissue damage when unregulated. The project aim was to investigate the relationship between NET formation and clinical IBD in humans. Methods Human intestinal biopsies were collected from Crohn’s disease (CD) patients, endoscopically categorized as unaffected, transitional, or diseased, and assigned a histopathological score. Results A significant linear correlation was identified between pathological score and cell viability (TUNEL+). Immunohistochemical analysis revealed the presence of NET markers NE, MPO, and citrullinated histone (CitH3) that increased significantly with increasing histopathological score. Diseased specimens showed greater MPO+-immunostaining than control (P < .0001) and unaffected CD (P < .0001), with transitional CD specimens also showing greater staining than controls (P < .05) and unaffected CD (P < .05). Similarly, NE+-immunostaining was elevated significantly in diseased CD than controls (P < .0001) and unaffected CD (P < .0001) and was significantly higher in transitional CD than in controls (P < .0001) and unaffected CD (P < .0001). The CitH3+-immunostaining of diseased CD was significantly higher than controls (P < .05), unaffected CD (P < .0001) and transitional CD (P < .05), with transitional CD specimens showing greater staining than unaffected CD (P < .01). Multiplex immunohistochemistry with z-stacking revealed colocalization of NE, MPO, CitH3, and DAPI (cell nuclei), confirming the NET assignment. Conclusion These data indicate an association between increased NET formation and CD severity, potentially due to excessive MPO-mediated HOCl production in the extracellular domain, causing host tissue damage that exacerbates CD.

Studies were carried for 200 trees coming from eight pure pine stands aged 25–95 years, growing in a fresh mixed coniferous forest habitat, in the Murowana Goślina Forest Experimental Station (52°34′ N, 17°00′ E) in western Poland. The aim of the study was to determine the size of the assimilatory apparatus of single pines (Pinus sylvestris L.): weight of leaved twigs (ugc), needle weight (ic), the volume of leaved twigs (ugo) and needle volume (io) and its relationship with selected dendrometric and increment traits of trees. The basic dendrometric traits were determined (height—h and diameter at breast height—d1.3) together with selected increments (heights—Ih5 and Ih10, diameter at breast height—Id5 and Id10, basal area at breast height—Ig5 and Ig10, volume—Iv5 and Iv10). A statistically significant linear correlation and a multiple linear correlation were shown between analysed traits, which confirms a strong relationship of the size of the assimilatory apparatus with tree increment. In this context, the strong correlation with the increment in basal area at breast height (correlation coefficient 0.8731 ÷ 0.9836) and with the increment in diameter at breast height (correlation coefficient 0.7835 ÷ 0.9581), after determining the increment in diameter at breast height requires only simple mathematical transformations to determine the increment in basal area at breast height. For the above-mentioned reasons, the increment in basal area at breast height is predisposed to be commonly used in the determination of the efficiency of the assimilatory apparatus of trees.

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background: </strong>Psoriasis relatively common, chronic, inflammatory and hyper-proliferative skin disease that affects 1.4% to 2.0 % of the population. Pateints with psoriasis have to face severe problems with stigmatization, discrimination and negative attitudes in general among the public, and often bear the brunt of public rejection.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods: </strong>A cross-sectional observational study was carried out on psoriasis patients attending dermatology outpatient department of Era’s Lucknow medical college and hospital between November 2018 and November 2020. Patients with pustular psoriasis, mycosis fungoides, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and other severe medical conditions like heart failure, liver cirrhosis were excluded from the study.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results: </strong>Present study included 170 (aged 16 to 76 years; mean age 37.74±13.70 years; 62.4% males) clinically diagnosed patients of Psoriasis. P-score was observed with increase in Body Surface area, maximum for cases with BSA ≥25%. There was a strong positive significant linear correlation between stigmatization scores and disability scores (r=0.746; p&lt;0.001), thus indicating that with increase in p scores there was a significant increase in PDI scores and vice versa.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> Present study showed that feeling of stigmatization and disability was highly prevalent in psoriasis patients. It was seen that stigmatization and disability showed a strong correlation. The findings of study showed that there is need to create awareness regarding psoriasis as a non-communicable disease in order to increase the acceptance of psoriasis patients in society and to reduce their stigmatization.</p><p class="abstract"> </p>

Abstract Background Hypotension and cerebral hypoperfusion, commonly encountered in beach-chair position under general anesthesia, carry the risk of neurologic complications. There is a paucity of data on monitoring cerebral perfusion. Our objective was to compare the mean arterial pressure (MAP) and middle cerebral artery velocity (Vmca) in the supine and beach-chair position and estimate its correlation during hypotension. Materials and Methods Twenty ASA class I and II patients undergoing elective shoulder surgery in beach-chair position were included in the study. MAP was measured invasively with the pressure transducer leveled to the phlebostatic axis. Vmca was measured with a 2 MHz transcranial Doppler (TCD) probe through the temporal window. Both MAP and Vmca were measured at baseline after anesthetic induction in the supine position (BL), on assuming the beach-chair position (AP), at steady-state hemodynamics in beach-chair position (P1), whenever there was a drop in MAP > 20% (P2), and on the restoration of MAP (P3). Results A mean decrease in MAP and Vmca by 24.76% and 27.96%, respectively, from supine to beach-chair position with a significant linear correlation between MAP and Vmca along with a Pearsons’ coefficient of 0.77 was seen. A change in MAP of 1 mm of Hg resulted in a change in Vmca by 0.53 cm/sec (p < 0.05). Conclusion A significant decrease in MAP and Vmca was observed in the beach-chair position. TCD could be used as a point-of-care noninvasive technique to reliably assess cerebral perfusion.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has enabled a deeper knowledge of the molecular landscape in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), identifying a growing number of targetable molecular alterations in key genes. However, NGS profiling of liquid biopsies risk for false positive and false negative calls and parameters assessing the quality of NGS calls remains lacking. In this study, we have evaluated the positive percent agreement (PPA) between NGS and digital PCR calls when assessing EGFR mutation status using 85 plasma samples from 82 EGFR-positive NSCLC patients. According to our data, variant allele fraction (VAF) was significantly lower in discordant calls and the median of the absolute values of all pairwise differences (MAPD) was significantly higher in discordant calls (p < 0.001 in both cases). Based on these results, we propose a new parameter that integrates both variables, named R-score. Next, we sought to evaluate the PPA for EGFR mutation calls between two independent NGS platforms using a subset of 40 samples from the same cohort. Remarkably, there was a significant linear correlation between the PPA and the R-score (r = 0.97; p < 0.001). Specifically, the PPA of samples with an R-score ≤ −1.25 was 95.83%, whereas PPA falls to 81.63% in samples with R-score ≤ 0.25. In conclusion, R-score significantly correlates with PPA and can assist laboratory medicine specialists and data scientists to select reliable variants detected by NGS.

The objective of this work is to model the variable number of cold fronts that affect the Cuban territory in a winter season for a long series of data, to establish if the trend is significant and to see which are the main statistics of the model, to observe the impact of prediction using the number of sunspots with the help of Objective Regressive ROR modeling. In this work, the series of cold fronts per season that affect the Cuban territory was modeled in the years from the 1916-1917 seasons to the 2006-2007 seasons. There are more moderate cold fronts than any other front, on average there are more classic fronts than any other type, on average 19 fronts can be presented per season with a standard deviation of 4.8 Sunspots and they only have a significant linear correlation with sunspots. In moderate fronts, as the stains increase, the number of fronts decreases. The ROR model explains 98% of the variance with an error of 4.2 cases and depends on the fronts returned in 5 seasons, which could coincide with the ENSO event, and also depends on the number of sunspots returned in 12 years. From 1916-1917 approximately the 1952-1953 season, moderate fronts predominated, later from 1953-1954 to the end of the data, weak fronts predominate over the rest with some exceptions throughout history. No significant trend was observed in the model. It is concluded that forecasts of the number of cold fronts can be made with the variable number of sunspots.

AbstractThis study aimed to validate early-phase F-18 Florbetaben positron emission tomography (eFBB PET) as a brain perfusion test and determine the optimal reference region. A total of 27 patients with early Parkinson’s disease with Tc-99m ethyl cysteinate dimer single photon emission tomography (ECD SPECT) and FBB PET were included. Six reference regions, including whole brain (GN), pons, central white matter (CWM), whole cerebellum (WC), WC with brain stem (WC + B), and cerebellar grey matter (CG), were applied to obtain SUVR using cortex volume-of-interest (VOI). Reference regions of WC (r 0.886), WC + B (r 0.897), and CG (r 0.904) had highest correlation values of cortex-VOI SUVR between both perfusion images (all p < 0.001). Early-phase FBB PET had a significant linear correlation of CG-normalized SUVR of the cortex, basal ganglia, thalamus, and midbrain with ECD SPECT in voxel-wise analysis (FDR adjusted-p < 0.05). Early-phase FBB PET extracts more ICNS than ECD SPECT, as 9 ICNS and 4 ICNs, respectively. Both eFBB PET and ECD SPECT well discriminated PD from DLB (Area-under-curve of receiver-operating-characteristics, 0.911 for eFBB PET, 0.922 for ECD SPECT). Our findings suggest that eFBB PET is a reliable perfusion test based on a high correlation with ECD SPECT using cerebellum-based normalization methods.

Purpose: This study was conducted in order to evaluate retinal ganglion cell (RCG) function and the neural conduction along the postretinal large and small axons and its correlation with retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL-T) in open-angle glaucoma (OAG) eyes.Methods: Thirty-seven OAG patients (mean age: 51.68 ± 9.83 years) with 24–2 Humphrey mean deviation (MD) between −2.5 and −20 dB and IOP &lt;21 mmHg on pharmacological treatment (OAG group) and 20 age-matched controls (control group) were enrolled. In both groups, simultaneous pattern electroretinograms (PERG) and visual evoked potentials (VEP), in response to checks stimulating macular or extramacular areas (the check edge subtended 15′ and 60′ of visual arc, respectively), and RNFL-T (measured in superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal quadrants) were assessed.Results: In the OAG group, a significant (ANOVA, p &lt; 0.01) reduction of 60′ and 15′ PERG P50-N95 and VEP N75-P100 amplitudes and of RNFL-T [overall (average of all quadrants) or temporal] with respect to controls was found; the values of 60′ and 15′ PERG P50 and VEP P100 implicit times and of retinocortical time (RCT; difference between VEP P100 and PERG P50 implicit times) were significantly (p &lt; 0.01) increased with respect to control ones. The observed increased RCTs were significantly linearly correlated (Pearson’s test, p &lt; 0.01) with the reduced PERG amplitude and MD values, whereas no significant linear correlation (p &lt; 0.01) with RNFL-T (overall or temporal) values was detected.Conclusions: In OAG, there is an impaired postretinal neural conduction along both large and small axons (increased 60′ and 15′ RCTs) that is related to RGC dysfunction, but independent from the RNFL morphology. This implies that, in OAG, the impairment of postretinal neural structures can be electrophysiologically identified and may contribute to the visual field defects, as suggested by the linear correlation between the increase of RCT and MD reduction.

Purpose to determine the place of the smartphone by evaluating the possession and the use of medical applications in the practice of the professionals at the Mohamed VI University Hospital of Marrakech and hospital “Moulay Youssef Rabat” This is a prospective descriptive and mono-centric analytical study on health professionals working or performing their training at hospital structures during the 6 months of the study using a smartphone. Our study took place over a period of 6 months, from August 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019, is carried out on two sites. Within the Moulay Youssef Hospital Rabat CHR, Hospital mother and child Mohamed VI Hospital Marrakech hospital. A clear predominance of female 131 (65%) , with a sex ratio F / H of 0.51.with an average age of 34.4 years, with extreme ages between 60 and 18 years. We found that 149 (74.5%) were hospital professionals, 86 (43%) were medical students, 191 (95.57%) used French as their main language. - 142 (71%) use a smartphone and 125 (62.5%) use it in the medical prescription. Of the 200 professionals, 81% were convinced of the benefit of using Smartphones. The overflow of professional boundaries was highlighted as a disadvantage by 47% of the professionals.130 (65%) want more APPS communications and more than 50% were willing to pay between 50 and 200 MAD for medical APPS. In our study There is a statistically significant linear correlation between the age and the number of smartphone users during these 6 months (p = 0.023).There is a statistically significant linear correlation between professional status and number of smartphone uses during these 6months (p <0.001). Our study joins the data of the literature with an average of the number of use during these 6 months which is not statistically different according to the sex (p = 0.27). There is a statistically significant linear correlation between the average number of smartphone uses for medical purposes and the number of Smartphone usage during these 6 months (p <0.001). In our study, the average number of uses during these 6months is statistically different depending on the professionals we judge that it is beneficial (p = <0.01). The smartphone is a real tool in the practice of health professionals for optimal care of the patient. It would be interesting to develop formal assessment strategies and training in these medical applications for use with confidence in our context.
