The invention of a can crusher machine in this project is to reduce the wasted storage space occupied by the tremendous amount of use aluminium can at the commercial establishment like in the restaurant, cafeteria and bar. Basically, can crusher machine be operated in manual effort and time in the can crushing process. Shrinking the initial volume of empty used-aluminium cans down to 50% in more effective, faster and effortless way, as well as to develop a low-cost device that is suitable for the small-industry usage are mainly the objectives for the Automatic Can Crusher, where an automated process is executed in Automatic Can Crusher due to the automation in the modern world is inevitable and nominal to be used. The Automatic Can Crusher is run by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with the aid of an inductive and capacitive sensor, where it is applied to detect whether the object is metal or non-metal. Overall, the system can be controlled manually through the push start and stop button as well as using the Human Machine Interface (HMI) using NB-Designer, for displaying the total of cans being crushed per day. The average result of empty can could shrink from 31% to 60 % of the original value, by using the attuned and compatible pressure for this system.

Programmable logic controllers (PLC) have been one of the most widely used controllers in industry. They have a graphical programming language interface resambling the relay panels which they are intended to replace so that the transition from relay panels might be swift and smooth. Although learning this programming language is easy, real life experiments are essential for students to gain greater understanding of the logic behind the language. However, it is generally too expensive to provide an experimental set-up for students to test their theoretical knowledge. For this reason, a conveyor and feeder system was developed as a low cost 3D printable design using a CAD program and implemented for use in a control laboratory. Using this conveyor set-up, students can experience how to program a practical example of a PLC devices used in industry together with an introduction to actuators and sensors. Reading actual sensors and using actuators via the inputs and outputs of a PLC to control a real life system will be far more effective than simulator alternatives.

Background: Acceptable food processing techniques require the removal of water contents from the crop or food sample without destroying the nutritional qualities of the food sample. This poses a strict requirement on the dehydrator or oven that will be used in the dehydrating techniques to have the ability to control both temperature and humidity of its drying chamber. Methods: This work centres on how an autonomous multi-farm produce dehydrator that can also serve as an oven can be designed with a raspberry pi and a low-cost programmable logic controller (PLC). The dehydrator gives the users the flexibility to control both the drying chamber’s temperature and humidity from its web interface via a mobile device or the dehydrator’s HMI. Heat energy from the Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is used so that the dehydrator can be readily available for commercial or industrial use.  The small electricity required to power the electronics devices is obtained from the hybrid power solution with an electric energy source from either the mains electricity supply or solar.. The design was tested by creating an operation profile from the proposed web application for the dehydrator. The operation trend was analysed from the web application’s Trendlines page. Results: The report showed that both the temperature and humidity of the dehydrator could be controlled, and access to historical operation data will give insight to the user on how to create a better operation profile. Conclusion: The setup described in this work, when implemented was able to produce a dehydrator/oven whose temperature and humidity can be perfectly controlled and its generated heat is evenly distributed in its drying chamber to ensure efficient and effective drying techniques use in crop preservation and food processing.

This article investigates an inverted pendulum on a mobile cart (mobile inverted pendulum) controlled via a programmable logic controller and actuated by a double-acting pneumatic cylinder. The study is conducted both theoretically, by modeling and simulating the entire system, and experimentally, using a specially developed test bench. Four low-cost 2/2 proportional valves are used for cylinder control. The control architecture consists of two nested control loops with proportional–integral–derivative compensators. To reduce cost, a programmable logic controller was used to manage both the system control and data acquisition. The results of the simulations carried out using linear and nonlinear models of the system were validated by comparison with those obtained experimentally.
