ABSTRACT Introduction: Space closure is one of the most challenging processes in Orthodontics and requires a solid comprehension of biomechanics in order to avoid undesirable side effects. Understanding the biomechanical basis of space closure better enables clinicians to determine anchorage and treatment options. In spite of the variety of appliance designs, space closure can be performed by means of friction or frictionless mechanics, and each technique has its advantages and disadvantages. Friction mechanics or sliding mechanics is attractive because of its simplicity; the space site is closed by means of elastics or coil springs to provide force, and the brackets slide on the orthodontic archwire. On the other hand, frictionless mechanics uses loop bends to generate force to close the space site, allowing differential moments in the active and reactive units, leading to a less or more anchorage control, depending on the situation. Objective: This article will discuss various theoretical aspects and methods of space closure based on biomechanical concepts.

Assessment of competitiveness is an objective need of every business entity seeking to maintain or improve their own competitive position and make informed management decisions. The authors propose to classify the diversity of methods of assessment of the competitiveness of the enterprise through three main approaches: graphic, factor and value. In order to identify the advantages and disadvantages of each of the approaches described by the authors, the content of the main methods used in the study was analyzed. It is concluded that there is no universal tool for assessing the competitiveness of the enterprise, which is due to, on the one hand, the limited reliability and low estimates obtained by using matrix and product methods, and on the other hand, the complexity and cost of the estimates using existing multivariate models.

Orthodontics and periodontics have a sophisticated elaborate interdependence as every orthodontic intervention has a periodontal extent. Although orthodontic alignment promotes adequate plaque control, many detrimental effects on the periodontium may be observed during the treatment. Periodontal intervention is required at all stages of orthodontic therapy starting from orthodontist diagnosing a case to mid-treatment analysis of periodontium and also posttreatment investigation of the case. Many a time, successful orthodontic treatment is dependent on the overall maintenance of the health of the periodontium. On the other hand, orthodontic tooth alignment may be used as an adjunctive treatment in periodontally compromised patients. This review will help in better understanding of the orthodontic–periodontal interrelationship for the better framework of the treatment approach to bring out the optimum results in patients.

The article describes the types of written records available to scholars of late Yi dynasty Korea, in particular, daily chronicles compiled under official auspices. Koreans were indebted to the Chinese for the chronological format of compilation, the Confucian moralistic purpose for historical writing, the respect for bare fact, and the necessity for truthful reporting. These objectives were often violated, however, because the recorders were also active bureaucrats involved in political disputes. For the modern historian, these sources have certain advantages and disadvantages. They are good for institutional and administrative history, and they provide raw data for political history. On the other hand, they reflect the biases of the recorders, they do not reveal the really private thoughts of kings and officials, they are confined to the formal apparatus of the official communication and the court conference, and they are comprised over much of moralistic exhortation and general preachment, rather than with concrete discussion of the problems of economy, society, and policy. They do, however, represent an enormous body of material hitherto neglected by Western scholars.

Clinical observations of recent years, showing, on the one hand, that the use of the antiseptic method in surgery often has undesirable side effects both on the patient's body and on the operating person himself; on the other hand, the excellent results obtained by surgeons who do not use the antiseptic method and observe only cleanliness have compelled operators with well-established clinics to replace antiseptics with asepsis more and more.

18575 Background: Following previous institutional observations, this protocol was designed to evaluate the efficacy of Gabapentin in the prophylaxis of delayed CT induced NV. Methods: The main elegibility criteria was moderate and severe NV on previous CT cycles.Gabapentin 300 mg caps. was given as follows: One capsule day -2, two capsules day -1 and one capsule tid from days 1 to 5. 24 pats. were evaluated; 22 (92%) female, 2 (8%) male.CT included Doxorubicin/Ciclofosfamide 15 (62.5%), Cis-Platin 5 (21%), Other regimens 4 (17%). Previous prophylaxis for all pats. included a 5-HT3 Antagonist plus Dexametasone. Pats. were instructed to complete a two-page Questionaire: On page 1 pats. indicated the intensity of nausea according a scale shown there. On page two they indicated the number of vomits they had. This was made three times daily for five days. The primary endpoint was reduction of NV aftyer CT. Results: The reduction observed in the number of vomits was as follows: Number of pats. that experienced 0 Vomits: day 1 (CT): 14 (58.3%); day 2: 18 (75%); day 3: 20 (83.3%); day 4: 18 (75%); day 5: 22 (91.7%). On the other hand, pats. that did not respond and had three or more vomits daily: day 1: 5 (20.8%); day 2: 2 (8.3%); day 3: 1 (4.2%); day 4: 3 (12.5%); day 5: 2 (8.3%).Most pats. experienced a decrease in the intensity of nausea as well. No significant side effects were seen. Conclusions: Gabapentin seems to have some efficacy preventing delayed NV after moderately and highly emetogenic CT. These results together with it’s possible effect on acute NV and good tolerability warrant further studies. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

AbstractThis Article will examine an important - but largely ignored - approach to constitution- making: The use of restored constitutional orders as the basis for the creation of a new constitutional order. Looking at this ‘restoration constitution-making’ in post-communist constitutional transition, it will describe how restoration held both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, restoration improved the politics of constitution-making by helping to avoid the elite manipulation of extraordinary institutions during constitutional drafting. On the other hand, the restoration of decades-old constitutions also led to restored laws that privileged past generations and undermined broad popular participation. Finally, restoration was an important part of gaining international recognition for independence. This international component suggests that constitution-making is about more than just domestic politics. These findings are an important first step in understanding the potential of restoration to ensure a successful constitutional transition.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a skeletal syndrome that has been known for more than 70 years. Yet, its pathogenesis and treatment options are still under investigation. DISH and spondyloarthritidies may manifest itself clinically as very similar disorders causing impaired axial flexibility, axial pain and peripheral tendinopathies. On the other hand, these two processes are different in many ways, from different genetic and metabolic predispositions, to different clinical and imaging manifestations, and at last, a different attitude toward treatment. The knowledge of the similarities and differences between DISH and spondyloarthritidies can guide the clinician toward a better diagnostic and treatment approach. This review tries to emphasize these details.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the psychological aspects of adult patients who sought and underwent orthodontic treatment, evaluating their expectations and discomfort during treatment, as well as their satisfaction after completion of dental movement. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Data obtained from previous published papers, and also from questionnaires answered by 54 patients, showed that adult patients stood out for their attention to details and high interest in the esthetic improvements provided by treatment, and also for a greater perception of their initial malocclusion. On the other hand, the same data showed that adult patients, once informed about the limitations of their treatment and having confidence on the orthodontist, presented a high level of satisfaction with treatment results, revealing themselves as good patients for indication and execution of orthodontic procedures.
