This study aimed to understand the meaning of nursing care as a social practice based on interactions and associations with complex-systemic thinking. Grounded Theory was the methodological framework used and 35 health professionals distributed in different sample groups were interviewed through a semi-structured questionnaire. Simultaneous data codification and analysis permitted the identification of the central category: "Evidencing nursing care as social practice". Nursing care as a social practice based on complex-systemic thinking constitutes a new paradigm of intervention, capable of strengthening social actions through interactive and associative networks, and of acting in a proactive, innovating and participative manner.

ABSTRACT Objective: To know the beliefs, values and practices of families in the care of hospitalized children. Method: Qualitative study developed at the Pediatrics Unit of a University Hospital in southern Brazil through non-participant observation, participant observation and interview with children’s family members. The methodological framework of Ethnonursing was adopted. Data were coded, classified and scrutinized to identify saturation of similar or different ideas and patterns, and recoded by making theoretical formulations and recommendations. Results: Beliefs, values and practices of families depend on cultural references and are manifested in the care with feeding, clothing and hygiene, maintenance of sleep and rest, presence, care with medication and exercise of religious belief. Conclusion: Family members care for the hospitalized child based on their cultural reference and it is important that nurses take this aspect into consideration during care practice. Cultural care aggregates knowledge and can be considered a new paradigm for nursing care that allows an affective, reflective, human, empathic relationship between nurse/child/family.

Despite the meteoric rise of social media, little is known about how clinical social workers and other mental health professionals respond to this new form of communication. This study used classic (Glaserian) grounded theory methodology to explore the experiences and concerns of mental health professionals on social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The main concern that emerged out of research interviews with 26 mental health professionals was a loss of control over others’ perceptions and the loss of ability to compartmentalize the different parts of identities associated with personal and professional selves. Participants resolved these concerns through the author-identified basic social process of “managing digital identities.” This study highlights practice implications for professionals as they manage online identity.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to characterize nurses' needs for scientific knowledge that supports nursing care in clinical practice of child health primary care. An exploratory and qualitative study was undertaken, grounded in health care and longitudinality of nursing care for children, based on interviews with 35 nurses from family health services with thematic analysis of the data. The results indicate the need to use child evaluation, family guidance, clinical protocols, care management and partnership among health professionals, which imply a range of knowledge, in order to trigger effective and problem-solving care actions. Practice based on professional knowledge and the subjects' needs can enhance care, with benefits for children, families and the institutional organization. It is vital for nurses to take responsibility for their own practice, continuously examining ways to deliver care for and remain up to date.

ABsTrACTThis was qualitative research performed with 15 nursing professionals of a study cohort on adolescent health, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. The objective of the study was to discuss nursing care strategies for the prevention of STDs/AIDS in adolescence, from the perspective of complexity. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection from January to August of 2012. Grounded Theory was used as the methodological framework. The category "Starting points for the nursing care of adolescents in the context of STDs/AIDS" is presented, which discusses aspects related to interdisciplinarity; multidimensionality and specificities of the adolescence-related process, in the midst of vulnerabilities to STDs/AIDS, thereby revealing the importance of contemplating the phenomenon as delimited by its complexity.

This descriptive-correlational study aimed to evaluate the relation between patients' satisfaction with information they have about their disease and its morbidity. A questionnaire was applied in two samples: 235 individuals with recent experience of illness (network sampling) and 254 hospitalized cancer patients post-surgery (consecutive sampling). The Escala de Conhecimentos sobre a Doença(12) [Patients' Satisfaction with Information Questionnaire - PSIQ] and the Rotterdam Symptom Checklist were used. Results show that participants were dissatisfied with information received and this dissatisfaction was more pronounced in hospitalized patients. An inverse statistically significant correlation (p<0.001) is observed between patients' satisfaction with information and physical, psychological and global morbidity. The conclusion is that obtained results appoint to the need for health professionals to invest more in patient information and reinforce the benefits of this area of nursing care.

This study aimed to discuss the contribution of the social network methodological framework in nursing care delivered to women who breastfeed their children up to six months of age. This qualitative study aimed to elaborate the social network map of 20 women through tape-recorded interview. Social network analysis evidenced a "strong" bond between these women and members from their primary network, especially friends, neighbors, mothers or with the child's father, who were reported as the people most involved in the breastfeeding period. The contribution of this framework to nursing practice is discussed, especially in care and research processes. We believe that nurses' appropriation of this framework can be an important support for efficacious actions, as well as to favor a broader perspective on the social context people experience.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand health professionals' values in the process of thinking and feeling about obstetric care, based on their experienced needs in the care process. Methods: Phenomenological study based on the Schelerian framework, with 48 health professionals from four maternity hospitals within the Metropolitan Region II of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Data collection was done through a phenomenological interview; and the analysis, with the Ricoeurian methodological framework. Results: The vital value was signified in care centered on physiological processes, for an individualized and safe monitoring. The ethical value was signified in the attitudes that provide women with autonomy in their way of giving birth, and recognize dialogue as a process of sympathy, affection, and bonding. Conclusion: The resignification of obstetric practice, articulated with public policies in the field of delivery and birth, supported by a vital ethical value, positively contributes to the humanization of care for women.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to classify the degree of dependence on nursing care required by children with Congenital Zika Syndrome during hospitalization and to analyze their complexity. Methods: this is a descriptive, observational and quantitative study carried out in a pediatric ward of a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Data were collected from hospitalization records between June 2017 and April 2018. Results: 54% of the population studied showed a degree of dependence equivalent to semi-intensive care. On 37.5% of hospitalization days, patients required non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation; 31.5% had spontaneous breathing requiring airway clearance by aspiration and/or oxygen therapy. Conclusion: Congenital Zika Syndrome represents a challenge for health professionals due to its uniqueness. In this study, it is expressed by demands for complex and continuous care in hospitalization and in preparation for discharge, requiring semi-intensive nursing care.
