Research was performed to evaluate the effect of biopriming technique using indigenous rhizobacteria in improving local upland rice from Southeast Sulawesi. Randomized group design was applied in this research using factorial pattern consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was upland rice cultivars consisting of 2 (two) levels of Paebiu Kolopua (V1) and Pae Wuna (V2) cultivars. Meanwhile, the second factor was rhizobacteria isolates, consisting of 4 (four) levels, those are without rhizobacteria treatment (R0), KNS11 isolate (R1), KLKU02 isolate (R2) and KNW11 isolate (R3). Research results indicated that interaction between Paebiu Kolopua cultivar and KLKU02 isolate treatment significantly affected plants height with 29.22% improvement and the amount of rice per panicle with 176.33% improvement compared to the control. Therefore, KLKU02 isolate can be recommeded as the best treatment to improve the production and outcome of local upland rice plant.

Abstract Upland rice with a high yield becomes a priority in rice breeding activities. High yield can be obtained if the rice plant has lodging resistance. This study aims to determine the yield and selection of F7 upland rice lines as the candidate for superior varieties with lodging resistance. The research was conducted in ultisol land, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The study used the experiment method with randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The treatment used F7 upland rice lines and 5 genotypes as check varieties. The five of F7 lines used were 19I-06-09-23-03, 21B-57-21-21-23, 23F-04-10-18-18, 23A-56-20-07-20 and 23A-56-22-20-05. The five check viarieties used were Danau Gaung, Inpago 8, Inpago 12, Rindang and Situ Patenggang. Data was analyzed using ANOVA and Least Significant Increase (LSI) test. The results showed that 2 lines had a higher yield than the comparison genotypes were 23A-56-22-20- 05 and 23F-04-10-18-18. Hence, the recommended lines as the candidates for superior varieties with lodging resistance are 23A-56-22-20-05 for red rice type and 23F-04-10-18-18 for white rice type.

The soil used in this experiment was a sandy clay low in phosphorus and in nitrogen from the College Farm. A (3 x 3 x 2) factorial experiment with three replications using an upland rice variety, Agbede, was carried out in the open on the College Farm between January and May 1963. Ten-litre plastic buckets 25 cm. deep and holding 11 kg. of soil, which was thoroughly mixed and the pH brought to 6.0 by liming, were used in growing the plants. These buckets were left standing on the ground, and there was no rain during the experimental period.

Development of acid upland in Indonesia still has constraints. To solve the constraint, environmental friendly technology by using organic matter and beneficial microbes is necessary. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of bio-organic fertilizer formulas for increasing productivity of upland rice plant in acid upland. This study used a randomized block design with 11 treatments using un-treatment as a control and some combination of NPK and bio-organic fertilizer. Each treatment was repeated three times, the size of plot was 5 m x 5 m. Upland rice var. Situ Patenggang was used as a plant indicator, with cultivication spacing of 40 cm x 15 cm. Combination treatment of NPK and bio-organic fertilizer increased population of P-solubilizer and N-fixer bacteria, plant height and tillers. Treatments of NPK-rec, ¾ NPK-rec and combination of ½ NPK-rec, ¾ NPK-rec and NPK-rec with both bio-organic formulas gave the weight of dried unhusked upland rice equal was 1.92 to 2.56 t ha-1 significantly higher compared to the control. The highest RAE was generated by treatment of NPK-rec combined with Bio-Organic Formula II about 137%. Bio-Organic Formula II could increase the growth and productivity of upland rice var. Situ Patenggang and could increase the efficiency udeof ½ NPK fertilizer dosage recommendations or equivalent with 125 kg urea, SP-36 100 kg, and 35 kg KCl ha-1 and increased the dehydrogenase activity.

Abstract The research aims is to determine the suitability of nitrogen fixing bacteria, namely Actinomycetes, Azospirillum and Azotobacter with upland rice seeds to the speed of radicle formation and growth of upland rice plants. Upland rice plant growth measurement parameters include; speed of formation of radicle length, upland rice plant height, number of upland rice tillers, dry weight of the top of upland rice plants and roots of upland rice plants, wet weight of upland rice plants and roots of upland rice plants, and total N of upland rice plants and upland roots Testing the application of N2 fixing bacteria on upland rice plants on a laboratory scale was carried out to determine the suitability of microbes with upland rice plant seeds in vitro. The pot test was carried out to determine the suitability of the N2 fixing bacteria with the vegetative growth of upland rice plants in vivo. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with Duncan’s advanced test. The results showed that upland rice plants inoculated with Actinomycetes, Azospirillum and Azotobacter showed significantly different growth from upland rice plants without nitrogen fixing bacteria treatment, namely the radicle formation speed and radicle length, plant height, number of tillers, wet weight, dry weight, and total N (%) plants. It can be concluded that the inoculation of nitrogen-fixing bacteria on upland rice plants has a significant effect on plant vegetative growth parameters and plant nitrogen content.
